About the property

3 bedrooms , 2 baths , 6 places in an undisturbed tuscan country.

VILLA BANDITELLO.

6 people, about 1405 sf., restored in 1999, enjoys a splendid view towards south and west with large hay for sitting outside.

A three entrance ground floor, with french windows to the garden, has a brightly and well equipped kitchen ( gas machine with oven, fridge, fire place-barbecue, washing machine), with store room besides. The kitchen leads into a two room lounge with a Tuscan fire place at one end, furnished with antique pieces of furniture and many sofas and armchairs. A small toilet is available at ground floor.

Stone steps take to first floor which has a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom (tub) and splendid view over Montepulciano valley. Other two twin bedrooms share a bathroom with shower. Wrought iron beds, old rustic furniture, small wooden toilet mirrors, doors and in wall- wardrobes have been chosen according Tuscan country tradition. The house is airy and bright all day long. Central heating is available. Panoramic space outside equipped with chaises-longues and iron-made chairs and table.

THE PROPERTY.

Farm Capanne di Sopra is located 1.2 kms from the hamlet of Montefollonico, in a quiet setting which enjoys the unmatched skyline of Montepulciano, with its masterpiece temple of San Biagio, Val d’Orcia's hilly border and top of Mount Amiata.

The property is situated on a slope at 450 meters of altitude, covering a 5 hectars hilly surface, with an olive grove and a small vineyard, which give an “extravergine” olive oil, and a Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG red wine.

The two stone farmhouses of the property have been restored in accordance with Tuscan traditions, and carefully furnished with owner's family pieces. The two houses, although closed one another, are independent and assure absolutely privacy to residents. The houses are fully equipped for six: in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Barbecues in the kitchen. The houses have: drinkable water from public utility, instant hot water, mobile telephone, washing machines and central heating. Baby cots and high chairs. There are a number of sun chairs and iron made chairs and table to dine outside. WI-FI.

THE SPOT.

To preserve the character of the site, the owners chose not to build any swimming pool. In any city nearby there is a public swimming pool.

Some 400 meters from the paved road, the site remains secluded while accessible only via a private driveway, ensuring that you'll be staying undisturbed, in the midst of olive groves, vineyards and woods. Parking area at the entrance of the property.

Historical and cultural sites nearby include Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona, Chiusi, Monte San Savino, Siena, Arezzo, Perugia and Lake Trasimeno which are all within 75 minutes drive. The thermal spas and bathing at Chianciano, Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo and Rapolano are no more than half an hour's drive away, and three swimming pools within 10 kilometers.

You need a car to get there. Montefollonico provides basic services ( food shops, bank, pharmacy, restaurants, and sport bar); Montepulciano is 7 km drive, Torrita di Siena is at 5 km. Take A1 Highway ( Autostrada del sole) and leave it at Val di Chiana or Chiusi exit. Then you need about half an hour drive to the farm. The closest Railway station is at Chiusi, on the Roma – Firenze line, about 15 miles away. At reservation we will forward you a detailed road map and instructions.

About michele ferrara, owner

We bought the property more than 20 years ago. Done a big restauration work, in several installments. Planted olive trees and more wine. Reshaped the cellar, we make wine and oil for the family and guests, not a commercial production, although under certification procedures. We are retired, an ex computers systems manager and a librarian archeologist.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in the Villa Banditello this past July, and it was the perfect base from which to explore the neighbouring hill towns of Montepulciano, Montefollonico, Pienza, Siena, etc. The villa is 5 minutes outside of Montefollonico (great restaurant here called 13 Gobbi, where the owner/chef makes home made fettuccini in a hollowed out peccorino cheese rind, scraping the melted cheese down into the pasta .. yum!). It is situated in its own vineyards and olive groves, and is beautifully appointed, right down to a wood oven (in addition to the regular one). The kitchen was very well equipped, the washing machine worked perfectly, bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious, bright and clean, and the views . . . well they were pretty much "storybook"! Michele personally spoke to us on the phone as we arrived, to be sure that we had all we needed. The housekeeper was there to greet us, and showed us everthing we needed to know. There is lots of room for parking. Furnishings, books and art are plentiful and tasteful. It really is a home away from home. There was even a bottle of the vineyard's own red wine waiting for us on arrival. Thank you Michele and Cristina! We would like to return this summer again in July! We will contact you!

Incredibly Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

When the gravel track road opened up onto Villa Banditello my first reaction was that this must be paradise. The house is completely off the beaten track positioned in its own beautiful and large garden that spills out into the olive groves and vineyards surrounding the property and further down into the valley below. The grounds are storybook picturesque with nothing obstructing the view and on the hill opposite the garden you have the hilltop town of Montepulciano.

I don't normally splurge but this house is something else. The interior is large and comfortable, tastefully (and it seems, lovingly) furnished by the owners. The bed was comfortable, the linens and towels spotlessly clean, the bathrooms large, the living rooms (there are actually two of them) airy and very comfortable. The furniture was not the eclectic assortment that you sometimes find in vacation rentals. It was in character with the house and some of the pieces are of the type you see in antique stores in Tuscany and wish you could carry away with you. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking at home, the stove is large and modern and it is supplied with much more than the bare essentials.

We are hikers and there is no shortage of beautiful hiking trails (the white trails of Tuscany) in the area. There is an abundance of beautiful hill towns to visit in the area, but we also took day trips to Florence (under an hour and a half by car) and visited Umbria.

To top it all the owners, Michele and Cristina, are the perfect hosts. We were lucky to have had the opportunity to meet them in person and they gave us the feeling that we were indeed their guests rather than random renters. We had a wonderful stay in this very special house and are certain that we shall return.

Capanne di Sopra is located 1.2 Kms from the medieval village of Montefollonico and 7 kms. from Montepulciano (exact location will be shown on request). It can be reached in a 20 minute drive from Bettolle - Val di Chiana exit of Rome-Florence A1 Highway, or 30 minute drive from Chiusi Railway Station.

•Roma Fiumicino , 210 kms. ( 130 mls.)

•Pisa , 190 kms. ( 130 mls.)

It enjoys a splendid panoramic view above the Montepulciano’s valley and its XV century temple of Saint Biagio.

At 450 mts above sea level, the horizon widens onto the skyline of Montepulciano to the south, Val d’Orcia hilly border and top of Mount Amiata to the west, the hill of Montefollonico to the north.
