About Joy Ortega
Paul & Marilyn Beltran 1464 Georgia Club Drive Statham, Ga. 30666
Joy Ortega purchased this House in 1990
Why Joy Ortega chose Eatonton
We came out to Lake Oconee area in year 1990 on our family weekend getaways and were entranced with the beauty of the place, the undisturbed beauty of the lake and the friendliness of the local people. In a few short days we had been drawn into the laid-back lakeside lifestyle, and relaxed more than we’d ever done before. We decided then and there to buy a piece of property and over the next few years built the house that we now offer for rental. It has been a labour of love as we furnished and finished it with local materials, landscaped the gardens and native shrubs. What you will find when you visit is our little piece of paradise on a beautiful lake Oconee. Our family has loved countless vacations here, and we know you will too.”

Perfect Family stay
We really loved the home. It was well taken care of and clean. Lots of space for everyone. The beds though were a little too hard however overall, it was great. We will definitely visit again.
This home was right on the lake, we stayed on the back porch most of the time and enjoyed the amazing view!
Location and Value
Very nice home in a lovely community. Great value with its lake front location and dock. Spacious and roomy, very nice that each bedroom has it's own attached bathroom. The owner was very easy to connect with and was accommodating to some special requests.
Would give it a 5-star if the kitchen supplies (pots, pans, utensils) were a little less worn and if the mattresses in the downstairs bedrooms were less stiff, they're new but they're not comfortable unless you like your mattress super firm. Overall I would definitely rent again.
Lovely Fishing Weekend
My husband and I and our daughter and son-in-law enjoyed a wonderful weekend fishing vacation at this property. The house is beautiful and has a great view of the lake. The boat ramp is within walking distance of the property. We put our boat in at the ramp and kept it at the dock by the house for the weekend. The two downstairs master bedrooms and baths are very convenient. The loft area adds extra sleeping space as well as another full bath.
Wonderful Home for a Weekend Getaway with Friends!
Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay in this beautiful cottage with a fantastic view of Lake Oconee! The patio was a favorite outdoor spot to relax and have morning coffee!
Beautiful location. The perfect place to relax. We had an awesome time!
Lake Oconee Georgia – Paradise Just an Hour Outside of Atlanta. Driving an hour east of Atlanta on Interstate 20, you will enter into “Georgia’s Lake Country,” an area consisting of Greensboro, Eatonton, Milledgeville and Madison, Georgia. After you pass the Madison exit, there is suddenly a break in the Georgia pines lining the interstate. An immense Lake Oconee twinkles at you, and as you remember to keep your eyes on the road, you wonder who could be so lucky as to rent somewhere so beautiful. Community features nature trails and a playground. The home is close to Lawrence Shoals park, an 85-acre park with a large picnic pavilion that may be reserved for groups of 30 or more. In addition, there are day-use picnic areas, equipped playgrounds, boat docks and ramps. Lake house back doorsteps near tennis court, beach and a guarded swimming pool. There is never a shortage of leisure activities, restaurants and relaxation to be discovered. The area is exceptional; itemizing the activities sounds like a travel catalogue, but the place is truly a mini-paradise. There are unique historical attractions like prehistoric Rock Eagle and Rock Hawk, rock mound effigies created by the indigenous people at least 1,000 years ago. Discover the area’s culture with a trip to one of its many museums or Madison’s Cultural Center. Go fishing for largemouth bass, as Lake Oconee has nearly twice the amount of bass as other middle Georgia lakes and is considered by many to be the best fishing lake in the Southeast. While on the water, try your hand at water and jet skiing, swimming, boating or kayaking. Maybe camp out in Hard Labor Creek State Park or stroll the historic streets of Madison and Greensboro. There is hunting, horseback riding and spas in the area as well. You could go antiquing in the multitude of shops in the area or enjoy a diverse choice of eateries, from the local dives to fine dining. Or attend some continuing education courses at the university. Within three hours in any direction, you can get to mountains to ski, beaches to sunbathe, the “Little Grand Canyon” of Georgia, Atlanta with its nightlife and cultural diversity, Athens, Augusta and Milledgeville. The area has a rich history, with mystery and mystique around every corner. The surrounding towns were founded between 1786 and 1809, and each has its own fascinating history and lore. Greensboro, Georgia, named for Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene, was home to Creek Indians and the cotton industry. Madison, Georgia is notorious for being spared by General Sherman’s destructive march to the sea during the Civil War, and consequently possesses some of the most beautiful antebellum homes. Eatonton is home of Joel Chandler Harris’s Uncle Remus stories, and Milledgeville is Georgia’s Antebellum Capital. The hospitable South still exists in the towns of this “lake country.” Just wander into one of the many unique shops in the area or say hello to people on the street and you cannot mistake the friendliness and Southern charm of the locals. Whether you sit down to lunch at one of the sandwich shops on the square in Greensboro or drive through a fast food restaurant in Milledgeville, the staff will probably address you formally and talk to you like a personal friend. The locals are extremely proud and many have ancestral roots in the area dating back years, if not centuries. Just ask, and they will tell you all about it. The laid-back attitude can sometimes be construed as lackadaisical by those who are not used to it, but for those who enjoy a faster pace of living, the bustling industry and nightlife of Atlanta is just an hour away. This area is home to many prestigious communities, such as Harbor Club, Cuscowilla and Reynolds Plantation, golf and lake community, boasting 117 holes of golf designed by such greats as Bob Cupp, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Rees Jones and Jim Engh, and named as the community with “Best Golf” by Golf Magazine Living. Homes in this community are not for those on a budget; with homes on Lake Oconee and in Reynolds Plantation averaging $700,000, residents are well-known by the locals as a having deep pockets and demanding the very best. A number of amenities are included, as the community contains four marinas, four restaurants, sixteen tennis courts and two fitness centers. On site is the award-winning Ritz-Carlton Lodge, a lakefront spa and resort ranked fifth in the world in the “Top 100 Golf Resorts” by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine. Many celebrities and sports stars choose the Lake Oconee area as a favorite getaway spot. Country star Carrie Underwood recently selected Reynolds Plantation for her wedding venue, and Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers is often seen about town and has a home here. Golf pro Annika Sorenstam recently opened her first retail shop in the area. Also owning homes in this area are George O’Leary, a former coach for Georgia Tech and Richard Ward, the CEO of Lloyd’s of London.
