About Rachel Harbour

Our Father, Joe Fitzgerald, purchased the home in 1979, shortly after it was renovated as part of a focused effort to resurrect the beauty of the neighborhood that had fallen into disrepair. Dad was a twenty year military man, with multiple degrees in psychology, engineering and business, and who spoke three languages. He passed away in November, 2012, just a few weeks short of his 80th birthday.

We decorated his home to honor its history while preserving Dad’s personality and his rich life experiences. Our Father deeply loved this home and often said, “I feel more like a steward than an owner of this home. It is my job to preserve it for generations to come.” We were blessed to inherit this home from our Father and we feel the same sense of responsibility. We are happy to share this treasure with others to enjoy as we have. Cynthia and Rachel (Joe's Daughters)

Beautiful home in historic neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay. Lots of stairs! Be mindful if you have children or elderly members in your party. House had plenty of space and included everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. It's an historic home; so, it was a little dusty in some areas but wasn't too bad. Loved the gorgeous stained glass on the front door and all of the character. My son really enjoyed having the 3rd floor all to himself. It was a really great space for us to spend time together, while still providing privacy for each of us as well. The neighborhood and surrounding area was terrific. Neighbors were all friendly and welcoming. Good rental for families.

May 2017

This couldn't have been a better choice!!! The house was stunning and so conveniently located for our wedding party taking place in Lafayette Park.

I would recommend this VRBO rental to everyone.

The little patio on the right of the house was just lovely to hang out with a few relatives and friends.

Thank you.

Great house, lots of space, great location!

  • 5 of 5

This house was great! Wonderful location, nice neighborhood, plenty of space in the house for the 4 of us adults staying there. We're all in our 50s so it was a good workout to climb those long stairways to use the fun room and deck on the 3rd floor. Suggestion: would be nice to have a mini-fridge up there!

Thanks so much for renting this to us!

Owner's Response: Hi Rick, thank you so much for the nice review. Our Dad had no problem staying in shape in this house! In his 70's, he still took two stairs at a time (show off! :-) ). I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to seeing you next time! Rachel

Gorgeous home, wonderful location, LOVED it!

  • 5 of 5

This spotless, historical home is truly exceptional, with perfect gathering places, a well-equipped kitchen, and lots of private spots, as well. The location is a walkable neighborhood, but just minutes from the city.

We would love to stay here again. Thanks for sharing your family's beloved gem!

Very comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was great. Very clean and orderly home. Missed not having the BBQ grill but I think we were there too early in the season. Very convenient to the activities we were attending. Extremely easy to work with Rachel and everything went perfectly.

Owner's Response: Hi Janeece, I'm glad that everything went smoothly for you with the reservation and your stay. I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy the BBQ. Yes, it is a seasonal feature, but we are happy to pull it out out of season if we know in advance. We hope you are able to join us again for your future travels. Rachel

Wonderful Historic House! Plenty of Space! Great Technology! Great Kitchen!

  • 5 of 5

If you want where you stay to be part of the excitement of the trip, this is the one to pick!

We traveled back to STL at Christmas time to visit relatives. it was a group of 5 adults: My wife and I and 3 adult sons.

The house proved to be a wonderful "base camp" for activities in the city as well as being convenient to relatives who lived in the suburbs (you will find it is quick-on, quick-off to the highway systems around STL.)

First, it is in the Lafayette Square area, which is a historic area. Just take a walk around the block or up to the park to take in the beautiful scenery and historic homes. Also, the Square provides many amenities, including basics like dry cleaning, but also micro-breweries, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Parking is easy, right in front. The street is quiet and the cars are safe.

The house was great. Tall ceilings, classic old architecture, and a very cozy feeling throughout. There are three full bedrooms that are very spacious. There are also other places to lay down if you want to -- a day room on the first floor and a TV room on the third floor.

Also, on the third floor, is a great little deck on the roof that affords a view of downtown and the Arch! This TV room also has a handy desk and office space.

Throughout, the house had plenty of TVs, wifi, and stereos for hooking up your phone via bluetooth! For such a big house, it is really well "wifi'd up"!

We really loved the way the home was decorated. It gave you a sense of the historic nature of the house, and also included some pleasant remembrances of the former owner, who was a pilot and world traveler.

The kitchen was also great. Very large and very well-equipped. It included a lot of cookware, dishware and gizmos that make it easy to prepare and serve your own meals.

Finally, the owners (Rachel and Cynthia) were really great to work with. They are very friendly and accommodating and go the extra mile. We were visiting at Christmas time, and Cynthia had popped in before we arrived and set up some Christmas decorations, including a small Christmas tree.

We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay, and will be looking up this property the next time we visit STL!

Highly recommended!
