Enjoy a comfy log cabin that sits 100’ from the shore of crystal clear Minnehonk Lake near the quaint village of Mt. Vernon, ME. Minnehonk Lake is at one end of the amazing 30-Mile River Watershed . The cabin is situated .7 miles down a quiet, private, dead-end road. MUSHROOMS EVERYWHERE! Easy access to the village of Mt. Vernon with public beach and gas station. The community center is one mile by car or foot and half mile by kayak or canoe. (Some have been known to swim the distance!)
The cabin sits on picturesque lot with 100’ private waterfront including an extensive dock, deck, and two kayaks. Although shallow along the shore, the end of the long dock is ideal for diving and bald eagle viewing. Fishing is great (shhhh!) with brook trout, togue, land-locked salmon, large and small-mouthed bass, and other species. The small size of lake makes large motorized boats extremely rare…… and discouraged. Hiking paths are numerous in the area due to the extensive trail network of The Kennebec Highlands.
Our cabin has a wide porch that looks out onto the lake with light filtered through the hemlocks. A double Adirondack rocker and other rocking chairs provide adequate perches for relaxation. A fire ring and well-stocked wood supply sit between house and lake.
The cabin is 1050 sf and is dominated by a cathedral ceiling design, interior pine boards, and wide-board floors. Windows with screens allow for ample light and views, plus there are ceiling fans for air circulation. Chilly evenings or rainy days can be warmed with a wood stove. The cabin has a brand new propane, direct-vent heater. WiFi and cell phone signal booster on site.
A modern and well-stocked kitchen makes meal preparation convenient, although the Olde Post Office Café on the other side of lake attracts diners from all over. Home-cooked take-out is also available at the Mt. Vernon Country Store. Cities of Augusta and Waterville, and the town of Farmington are about 30 minutes away.
The downstairs bedroom sleeps two and the upstairs loft can sleep two on a trundle bed. (Stairs to loft require monitoring of young children.)
The bathroom includes washer/dryer and walk-in shower. Water is supplied from drilled well. Linens provided.
There is a large semi-circular drive with ample parking and 100’ road frontage. A lockable shed allows for storage of items like bikes, fishing gear, etc. We also have an outside charcoal grill and a fire pit. There are also 2 kayaks for your enjoyment!
Don’t consider this place if you can’t stand the quiet …… except for loons calling!
We've stayed in this cabin on 4th of July weekend and my family and friends loved it beyond words! The property is very well maintained and the owner is the nicest person we've ever met (trust me, we leave in New York and know exact definition of word nice). Excellent fishing spot (especially if you go up to the stream a bit). We personally love the area around and usually come twice a year - in summer and in fall even though it is almost 7 hours drive for us.
This cozy little cabin has a beautiful wood interior, high lofty ceilings and huge windows that let you enjoy the beautiful woods and sparkling lake, as you relax on the couch by the fireplace. It has a beautifully furnished porch that faces the lake, a firepit and another seating area right on the lake, next to the dock. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and make sure that it is cleaned and stocked with supplies. It also has a washer/dryer and WIFI, so you can enjoy some modern comforts while relaxing in the wilderness.
We just got back from two fantastic weeks at this property. I highly recommend it for a family looking to get away on a small and very tranquil lake in Maine. The property is beautiful and the house has everything you need. It was well stocked with spices, oils and other essentials, and the washer/dryer and linens/towels being included made our road trip that much easier. If you are a musician, you'll enjoy the piano and mandolin that are available. The house is well-appointed, very updated and is very comfortable.
The grounds are amazing. There is a roughly 25 yard footpath separating the house from the dock. The path is quite comfortable for bare feet since it is covered in pine needles (key for kids running back and forth). There is also a fire ring and seating about halfway to the dock that is quite enjoyable at night. The dock is probably the best one on the lake (many look unstable). It is very sturdy and has a lot of room; it also has a ladder. The sitting area above the dock is quite pleasant as well and is a great area to watch your kids swim with a glass of wine! The two kayaks were great, but we actually rented a paddle board for our time there as well. The depth is about 7 or 8 feet at the end of the dock making it great for shallow diving or jumping.
Mt. Vernon is a cute and very small town. The local grocery store has everything you need; however, if you need more, Augusta a bigger stores are only 30min away. You should really go to the Post Office for breakfast and a dinner as well. All-in-all we had a great trip and will absolutely return for future summer vacations.
I really love visiting Mount Vernon, especially Minnehonk Lake. I have family ties to the area and this was the perfect house to stay at to unwind and relax. We were able to take the kayaks out on the lake and enjoy the sunshine and the family of loons. I love being able to grill, and was happy that there was one there for our use. Being able to sit by the fire at night and hear the loons was like magic.
We vacationed at this wonderful cabin 8/23 to 8/30 and had a nice & relaxing vacation. The lake was very refreshing to take a midday dip or a kayak ( which are provided to you) trip up the lake, very clear and cool waters . Owner provides you with all the amenities of home and more. The cabin is well stocked with dishes, linens, towels and a washer and dryer for your convience. There is also a fire pit that is also stocked with wood for toasting marshmellows for s-mores.
Great area for daily hikes and walk to town for dinner at the Olde Post Office resturant or shopping at the local galleries and antique stores. Very centrally located to all major cities in central Maine if you want to adventure out of relaxation mode.
Just 10 minutes from the famous Belgrade Lakes.
