I am a semi-retired designer contractor who was fortunate to be apart of the growing infrastructer of Dallas. In 2009, I decided to give myself the harmony of life and moved to WNC and explored this area for several years before i decided to settle down in this property.

This property was unique when I purchased it and transformed it from an ugly duckling into an Alice-n-Wonderland setting...2 1/2 years in the workings....alot of creating was done to this place....you would have had to see the before and afters to really appreciate the hard work that went into this with the help of my crew that was with me all of the way.

What makes this cottage unique

The benefits of enjoying the visit here at the cottage is in so many ways. If I had to put my finger on just one feature, I would have to say the location is by far the most accommadating. I am half way between Asheville and Hendersonville just minutes from I-26 and the Asheville Airport. In either direction of Hendersonville Hwy, you can be in downtown Asheville, Biltmore estate, Lake Lure, downtown Hendersonville in just approx 15-20 min. The cottage has off street private parking with mountain views both in the front and rear of the property.

Perfect for small family

We needed a spot in the NC mountains for our small family Thanksgiving celebration. The cottage was ideal location (easy access into Asheville) and might be the best equipped kitchen that we've encountered through VRBO. There was ample space to spread out and it was immaculate. The pictures are exactly true representation. Diane greeted us warmly and was helpful in getting us situated and settled. Thanks for sharing your great little property...Although "put to bed for the winter" you can tell her garden spaces are knockouts.

Doesn’t look like the pictures advertising the “ cottage” - they were taken when it was brand new

Disappointing stay here...towels, bedding, throws are in threadbare condition. Pantry items were so old they had rotted. The “cottage” is being used to store stuff so you have to live with the saddest fake Christmas tree ever. Parking is a problem - long driveway which you have to either back in or out of without hitting a truck, a trailer & the owner’s car. I washed all sheets, towels, throws, made up beds, cleaned & everything shined when I left - not even a thank you from the owner! You get 1 roll of toilet paper & no soap detergent to do laundry & 1 garbage bag. I stocked napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, olive oil, & no thank you for those items either. Very dusty inside...nice lower yard but you need special permission to enter. Outside furniture dirty. The “ welcome home “ speech from the owner is about don’t do this & dont sit on these chairs, etc. Chilly weather & only blanket provided was a foam blanket wth holes & tears in it. Disgusting. Thought it would be like a fairy tale... I left 2 days early.

Owner's Response: As anyone who takes the time to read my reviews, you will see that I have a majority of positive excellant reviews. I strive to make each and everyone one of my guest comfortable and satified with their stays, but again, there will always be someone who feels unsatified. I will start out by saying that my property is exactly like it is advertised by the pictures. We are in the fall season here in WNC so our leaves and plants have all gone dormant. Guest would certainly understand that when reserving the cottage. Each guest is asked to sign a simple 2 page house rule agreement. Everyone has the opportunity to ask if they have any questions....this guest did not ask. This guest was given the privilege of having her two little yorkies stay with her at no additional cost, I noticed she was using the pet pea pads but they used my front entry rug instead leaving stains. She was notified of this and instead of me replacing the entire rug at a high cost, I tried to be more than fair with her and deducted a small amount out of her damage deposit to have the rug cleaned. Now she is disgruted and feels that she has to lash out at this decision by fabricating negative comments of my property. As I have said before, I strive to accomadate all of my guest, but there will always be someone who you can't make happy....all I can say " sorry she got disgruted over a backcharge due to her negligents of her dogs", everyone should be responsible for their pets. I do wish her well. The cottage is well stocked with bedding, towels and linens, glasses, silverware and is cleaned between each guest to a standard specification. This guest stayed for a period of 2 weeks and I guest she thought I was suppose to supply her with all paper products during her stay...I do provide sufficient supplies for short stays only My profile listing clearly explains that I too, live on the property therefore other vehicles are parked as well. all guest have a designated parking area to use near the cottage

Very cozy!

Me, my husband, our two friends, and our dog stayed in the cottage for a long wedding weekend. The cottage was adorable and comfortable and had great outdoor space for our dog. Diane was very accommodating and responsive as needed including allowing us an earlier check-in time. It was a perfect location for the wedding in Fletcher we attended and the drive into Asheville was super easy as well.

A little slice of heaven

I needed a play to stay for 6 weeks while my house was being built. I was looking for cozy, quiet, spacious and a place where I could bring my dog. This little cottage was "all it and much more." Diane's gardens are absolutely beautiful which made the stay so much more enjoyable. The cottage is fully stocked with more than one could ask for plus a washer and dryer!!

There are a ton of places to walk your dog, one being directly across the street and others within a short driving distance. There were days when I had to be gone for several hours and Diane was kind enough to take my dog out.

Diane was respectful of my privacy but kept me in mind by inviting me to dinner with her friends and enjoying a glass of wine on her deck. She also shared local farm tomatoes and vegetables when she went shopping and wonderful southern cooking when she had leftovers.

The only thing I would change is the "pet friendly" advertisement. I had to find a place for my cat since she only allows dogs.

I would stay here again without hesitation.

Issues with the owner....

I want to open with what's a good about the space. The pictures are accurate. It is beautiful and the gardening is magical. The views are also lovely. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you could ever hope for or need. Now for what doesn't work. The landlord appears to have issues with persons she deems as different. She also has a long list of rules (that were actually listed in all CAPS) some of which are fairly easy to relate to and others are a little bit negative--almost as if a parent was talking in a frustrated manner to a small child. You have to sign and agree to these rules to stay at the property. My husband is visibly older than I am, I have a bohemian fashion sense, and my child enjoys dyed hair and has some piercings that are noticeable and could be considered alternative by an older generation. For the entirety of our stay she treated us as if we were untrustworthy and going to be a potential problem. She constantly checked on us when we were present and made references to my husband that he needed to make sure that we (my teenage child and I) understood the rules really well because we might have difficulty with them. My husband and I are successful psychotherapists in private practice. We are very responsible quiet introverted adults. Her attitude felt parental and judgemental and very unnecessary on our family vacation. She also asked us to leave early one day so that she could show the property to a potential buyer. Our vacation was over Memorial Day Weekend, and she had visitors at the main house that were noisy and disruptive and frequently had small children playing right outside the back window. She was also doing some kind of carpentry project one morning and using a circular saw very near to where we were sleeping in and having breakfast. My son felt very uncomfortable with her. If you are an older, white, hetero-normative couple nearing retirement or very conservative, you will likely enjoy this space and feel welcome and comfortable. If you are not, I'd pass on this property and stay somewhere else more friendly.

Owner's Response: OMG......I have to chuckle at this review...in most cases, guest, whether be thru VRBO, hotels, or B&B's are asked to sign and acknowledge "house rules". short term leases or terms and conditions for their stay. As I state, I try to keep mine short and simple, 2 pages. I have wittnessed where guest, just sign it without reading it....then when issues arise, then I am to blame for any negligents. I ask that the guest who makes the reservations, sign it and discuss with their guest, since they are responsible for any issues. They are also given an opportunity of a copy of these "house rules" by request. I highly regard my hospitality towards any of my guest. As in previous reviews, I try to strive for friendliness. It is in my nature to make all of my guest feel welcome to the cottage. If I didn't, then I would be accused of being rude and unfriendly. This guest was not asked to leave early. She was asked what her schedule was for the day so that I could prossibly have a realtor come by to show the property after they left to go into Asheville. I told her that I would certainly decline the showing if it was any conflict for her and her family, and that I would be there for the showing. Yes, this was Memorial weekend and we all have the opportunity to celebrate our veterans. My listing specifically notes that I live on the property and I too have the privileges of celebrating the holiday with guest of my own. No one was noisy, disruptive, roudly or loud on my property. As far as children, there are neighbors back behind my property and as a host, I am not responsible for them. My property is approximately 3/4 acre. As a host, I strive to have a quiet time of 9 am and 9 pm. Giving everyone privacy and no disturbances including myself. I have the normal routines of providing a clean, safe and beautiful property to offer my guest. I have guest who stay for months and as anyone can read, the reviews speak for themselves. As the saying goes, I can't make everyone happy.....I can only certainly try my best. There will always be someone who feels differently.

6 months at the cottage

Although we didn't book through VRBO and our stay was a 6 months stay, I would like to share about our experience. I just moved to Asheville from Italy with my American husband. We spent 6 beautiful months in the cottage and we enjoyed our stay in the peaceful country and close to multiple attractions. Diane, the owner, helped us with every needs we had and she has been very accomodating. We have our dog, a female boxer who fell in love with her boxer Jake. They played a lot in her gorgeous garden... I can't wait to see pictures of the blooming yard!!!

I hope to go back to NC soon and visiting Diane and Jake again!
