About the property

2 Bedroom 2 bath on the Big Deschutes River

Otterhouse is located right on the Deschutes River, 5 minutes from Sunriver Village and 20 minutes from downtown Bend or Mt. Bachelor. This 2 BR/2 BA, 2200sf vacation home sits 30 feet from the Deschutes River, directly across from a wetland/forest wildlife preserve. Quiet. Bucolic. This is the perfect retreat for playing in Central Oregon’s recreational paradise.

Enjoy unlimited mountain biking, fly fishing, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, hiking, golfing, horse back riding, dirt bike riding, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding on dozens of local rivers and lakes, as well as water skiing and sailing in the Cascade Lakes recreational areas. Don’t miss the numerous festivals and events in Sunriver, Bend, Sisters and Redmond. Enjoy fine dining, terrific microbreweries, art galleries and live music venues throughout this vibrant area.

This riverside two-story chalet-style home features an open floor plan with natural light and vaulted cedar ceilings. It has a spacious, warm library/loft as well as a large TV entertainment room. There’s even a 9 foot shuffleboard table. The library sports a queen sleeper couch and there are two twin floor futons for sleeping wherever you like. The master bedroom has a California king and the downstairs bedroom a queen, both with luxury linens.

The living room features a pellet stove, soft leather furniture and a lovely bistro table at the windows overlooking the river. French doors open to the patio from the dining area, offering a gas BBQ, intimate seating area, as well as a dining deck to take in the breathtaking views. The kitchen is fully equipped and then some. A laundry room with washer/dryer/iron/board is available as well. Amenities include free WiFi, flat screen TV with surround sound and Blue Ray DVD player, Ipod docking speakers/alarm clocks.

Sit and enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife from inside or outside. Watch deer, elk, otter, ducks, geese, osprey, eagles and the rare great owl. Other visitors include squirrels, raccoons, foxes and cottontails. You can walk to an eagle’s nest, or launch a boat right from the yard; there’s even a good fishing hole right out front!

Although wonderfully private and in a quiet neighborhood, it is less than 5 minutes to Sunriver Village, and all its amenities, including: grocery store, restaurants, shopping, equipment rentals, stables, observatory, nature center, new huge pool complex, and ice rink(winter only).

Come and see for yourself; we think you will love our mountain paradise!

“Relaxing at the Otter House”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014 NEW

The Otter House was exactly as advertised. It looks just like the pictures, was very clean, in great condition, and well stocked with towels, games, books, kitchen supplies, and a great location along the river. The beds were very comfortable, there was plenty of hot water and all the appliances worked. The owner was easy to work with. We did everything by email which made it convenient. There are a few restaurants, well stocked supermarket (not just a small country market), gas station and post office within 5-10 minutes of the house. Note that while the house address is "Bend", it is actually located in Sun River, almost 21 miles southwest of Bend. But with what little traffic there is (if you can call it traffic), it only takes 20-25 minutes to drive to downtown Bend. The house was also equipped with a couple of bikes and kayaks for our use which was great to have. We were able to put in to the river right from the back yard.

Best view on the whole river. Ducks!

  • 5 of 5

The place is impeccably kept up. The outside yard and view are gorgeous. Ducks and other birds. Deer sleep in the yard. It's quiet! The only downside was leaving. We have to go back.

The OtterHouse

  • 5 of 5

Amazing home right on the Deschutes River! THe house was well stocked and the owners had put a lot of thought into attention to detail. The home has a/c and this year we definitely needed it. THe nights were cool so we were able to use the fire pit nearly every evening. The otter house has lots of games for children as well as a large assortment of books. We used 2 of the 4 bikes and took them by car to Sun River and rode the bike trails. We fed the wildlife daily and were rewarded with many birds, squirrels, ducks, and a family of deer that came every day. We would highly recommend this gem of a vacation rental to anyone who wants a delightful, quiet, yet convenient place to call home for a bit.

Such a peaceful and relaxing place at Otterhouse.

  • 5 of 5

First, we were blessed with wonderful weather that inspired lots of outdoor activities. We did a two hour float on the river with the double kayak and the canoe and ended right at the house. We took Uber back to the car and what a wonderful couple of hours. Otter house is so conveniently located to so much fun. The house itself, was just right-comfortable and spacious and nicely decorated. Bird watching from the backyard at cocktail hour was great. There is a redwing blackbird that never backed down from the larger scrub jay at the bird feeder. The only animals he backed down from were 5 deer that came along and with their long tongues, cleaned the feeder out! All in all, excellent! Next time we will stay a whole week. Thanks

Peaceful setting on the Deschutes River

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic vacation at the Otterhouse. We even saw an otter! Peaceful setting with easy access to the river, quiet neighborhood, spacious home, very comfortable beds, fun boats, toys and movies, great deck with fire pit and BBQ and green, grassy yard. It was everything we hoped for, and we will try to come back for a longer stay. Thank you, Lars and family, for sharing your amazing home and for being so attentive to our needs. We had a ball!

Roomy home with super vacation details

  • 5 of 5

This home takes advantage of the river view with tall windows and tons of natural light. There are water toys and indoor games and the best kitchen and dining set up. It felt to us like a resort home informed by city sensibilities. Lots of homey touches. It felt to me like the owners really live there when in town. We drove the long way to the mountains (still in snow in May) and found a shortcut back to Sunriver. Had a super delicious Italian meal in the community shopping center and a burger meal in a brew pub. Close enough to Bend that we hiked the river trail there and another scenic trail too. The owner provides stacks of recreation literature. Beds were comfortable, linens plentiful, kitchen well stocked. We would stay in this home again in a heartbeat.
