About Suzy Taylor
I am an interior designer/magazine editor and worked in NYC. When I started to paint seriously I moved to CT in order to have time and space to paint. I moved to SMA in 2007 to put it all together in my gallery which has my paintings and my custom furniture. I have always designed every aspect of the place which was an interesting challenge in Mexico. I used to own the property next door but I recently decided to go 'up' to get the light and views so divided the property and built my house above the gallery and the penthouse with its terraces above that.
Suzy Taylor purchased this Apartment in 2005
Why Suzy Taylor chose Zona Centro
When I bought this property it was a vacant lot. I liked the location though admittedly it is better for living than for the gallery since it is a bit off the beaten path. The first level is a gallery and studio. The gallery (named the Arroyo Gallery) contains my original paintings, custom furniture and some clothing. My house is the second level and the penthouse is the third. The light and views improve as you go further up. It has everything I need all in one space and it is an extremely pleasant place to live! The area is quiet since it is on a walkway. The view goes to the churches with mainly trees between here and there. The walkway itself is now called the 'Pasada de la Paz' or 'The walkway of peace.' and has gardens, murals, mosaics, etc all along it. but half a block away past this walkway is the major street with taxis, restaurants and shops. The center of town is four blocks away. The Instituto is a block in the other direction. It's all here and you don't need to drive.
What makes this Apartment unique
My walkway is so close to everything but it is quiet. This is a noisy town with fireworks, church bells, traffic, etc. I get the sound of many singing birds in the early morning. I do get the church bells but they are not close enough to be a bother. They are lovely. The fireworks can be seen but are rarely close enough to be considered noisy. Again, being by an open area, many hot air balloons go overhead in the early morning. You can hear their 'whoosh' and go outside and look up into them. In the mornings and evenings you can watch flocks of birds coming and going. Some circle the Parroquia on their way. Since there are only trees between here and the churches, there is no need for curtains. Privacy is not an issue. It is unusual to get a private view and quiet while being close to everything. With the windows and skylights it does get morning light which I personally adore. (I do provide eyeshades for those who don't love it or have the occasional late night out and want to avoid it the next day.) Lifepath, a wellness center, is next door and provides health services and classes. The only noise from there is an occasional 'ohmmmmm' from the yoga instructor.

Penthouse fabulous space , view and private balcony
Suzy is fabulous knowledgeable and helpful The penthouse is as described with daily cleaning. It is immaculate very comfortable bed and linens and bath towels are of excellent quality. We would definitely stay there again
Suzy was wonderful and very accommodating. Her place is beautiful and in the best location. We had a wedding at the Rosewood hotel, and it was only a block away.
The only thing I missed was maybe some curtains! I always enjoy sleeping in a little bit, but the view was worth this sacrifice!
Great views and location
This smallish apartment is elegant, well located near the Instituto on a quiet walkway and has great views of the two main centro churches. The owner lives in the building and is friendly and helpful. Her gallery is on the first floor, her living quarters on the second floor and this apartment on the third floor. The size works well for one or two people.
The small size of the interior space dictates that dining and conversational seating be outside in one of two exterior patio spaces. This works well when the weather is nice (which it was when we were there) but might be a problem in cold or hot weather.
The kitchen is tiny but efficient. Don't expect to be preparing large meals here. The bath is fine with a great shower built with fieldstone, which also covers the floor of the apartment interior.
There are several good restaurants nearby. It is a 10-minute (slight uphill) walk to the Jardin, the main plaza that is the heart of the city.
It's true about the outside living areas. Most people come here for that reason.
It is rarely so hot or cold that you wouldn't want to use it. I do provide inside and outside ceiling fans and cozy bathrobes and electric throws for those nippier mornings.
Suzy’s apartment is a magical hideaway right in the centre of town yet hidden in the trees.
Very comfortable and with all the comforts you could want. The only drawback is the unreliable Internet connection despite Suzy’s best efforts to assist.
We cannot say enough about our stay with Suzy in San Miguel de Allende. She welcomed us into her home and led us up to a fabulous apartment overlooking the city. There is not one amenity that she has not considered and our stay was perfect in every way. The apartment is located on a quiet lane that is open only to pedestrian traffic and well lit at night. Electric blankets kept us warm as we sat outside on the patio and a gas fireplace inside provided ambiance and warmth! The apartment was cleaned every day and fluffy towels and water replenished as well. Although the space is a studio, the outdoor area beyond big glass windows opens the space completely. Suzy was always ready to share tips on where to go giving us one of our favorite nights in the city. Live music, great food, and friendly people will greet you in San Miguel de Allende. Staying with Suzy was the icing on the cake!
Thank you! I really enjoyed having you here! I'm so glad you had a great time!
Clean, well appointed, great location, lovely view
A wonderful Christmas week visit to San Miguel. Loved this studio, may be too small for some but very comfortable for two of us. If it was not winter the well appointed covered outdoor seating would of added more to the feeling of space. However the lovely view added so much and the location was convenient and quiet. For a winter day the sunny open patio was a lovely place to sit in the sun for a siesta. The interior and whole building was very appealing with a tasteful decor and rooms thoughtfully appointed. The location was excellent for walking to all nearby attractions and restaurants. The owner on site Suzy, a painter with gallery below us was more than helpful before our arrival and during our stay. An excellent option for a memorable holiday. Certainly we would go back to this HomeAway from home.
Loved having you and hope you do come back!
Granted winter is not the best season for the covered terrace, but I do supply fluffy fleece robes and electric throws so that it can be used in relative comfort.
SMA has many festivals and most are accompanied by fireworks displays in the jardin. The view of the fireworks from here is spectacular- and no crowds!
