Restored Farmhouse Holiday Rental In Southern Dordogne with private pool

Bedrooms 3
Space 100 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

Les Mouries is a great place to relax with friends and family amidst an elegant French country ambiance. Located 30 km from the Bergerac airport, the house makes a cosy hideaway for a romantic break or a luxurious self-catering holiday for groups up to 6 people. It offers a private swimming pool, well established garden with shady spots for quiet relaxation, and panoramic views.

Les Mouries is well maintained and cared for. The rooms are high-ceilinged downstairs, airy and spacious. Wooden shutters keep the interior cool when the temperature rises and original wooden beams and floors can be found throughout. There are 3 double bedrooms, one with a king size bed. Interior furniture and fittings are unique and of good quality. WiFi is available for visitors' use. Beautifully restored by the owners, the house includes a new swimming pool with an adjoining terrace. The rest of the garden is laid to lawn with fantastic views, shade from established trees and the facilities to BBQ.

Situated in South West France, the area is renowned for its outstanding beauty, history and cultural heritage, as well as its superior wines and culinary delights. Les Mouries is the perfect base for exploring medieval towns and the wine capital of Saint Emilion. The world famous prehistoric cave paintings are at Lascaux and the Dordogne valley is nearby with its thousand châteaux. We offer a tranquil setting ideal for relaxation. Sample the produce at the AOC vineyards of Bordeaux and Bergerac, or enjoy the many local markets, where you can buy local specialties such as truffles, cèpes, and foie gras. Within a short drive you can paddle a canoe down the river, take part in a vineyard tour and you could visit a different farmers' market every day of the week. Brocantes abound and open air entertainment is plentiful in village courtyards and streets. The Bastide village of Castillonnes is a short 7 minute drive away. In addition to shops and a bustling weekly market, it has a swimming pool, tennis courts, cinema (showing English films twice a week), petrol station, and restaurants. Closer to home is the traditional French bar at Lalandusse which is a 10 minute walk away and is a delight to sit outside on a warm sunny evening.

Bordeaux airport is an hour and a half's drive away. Toulouse airport two and a half hour's drive. Bergerac operates low cost airlines and is a 20 minute drive away. Bergerac also has a train station with connections throughout France. Because Les Mouries is in the countryside, a car is necessary. Secure parking is available at the farmhouse.

Clean and reasonably well equipped. Good location, private and peaceful.

  • 4 of 5

Very helpful owners, though definitely not intrusive which we feel is very important. Very private and peaceful with beautiful views. Good local bar, and well located for various pretty towns and villages. Only 30 mins max to the airport. Could do with a new cooker, and the garden needs a bit of tlc! Figs and apples plentiful and delicious! Remember the pool is not heated so fine in the height of summer but probably not useable if the weather is not really hot!

Relaxing family holiday

  • 4 of 5

Hello Rachel

Just to let you know that we ended up having a fabulous time at Les Mouries.

We all relaxed eventually and loved the area! The quietness, stunning scenery and facilities available enabled this!

We were very lucky to witness the most amazing meteor shower over the middle weekend, the clear skies facilitated this and no light pollution! We continued to see lots of shooting stars too! Laying on the sun loungers with the family was awesome and very memorable.

We also felt very blessed to see fabulous sunrises and sunsets! The weather was very mixed but it did not stop us from exploring the area. We loved Issigeac, Villareal, Eymet ( the evening market was busy but enjoyable) and Chateau Bridoire at Ribagnac. We enjoyed playing table tennis every day, come rain or shine! We also played tennis at Castillonnes. Our trip to Lougratte( a river beach) was lovely too. The little bar in Lalandusse was friendly and an enjoyable walk away. we dined there one evening and took part in their set menu, which was very good.

I was lucky enough to see a Golden Oriole one morning which was a super surprise!

Time to swim, read and relax were a must for all and we managed this interspersed with card games, swing ball and badminton !

Many thanks again for allowing us to stay in your restored farmhouse.

Lovely rustic home

  • 4 of 5

We loved the character of the house. Rachel and Caroline were great hosts and were great at sorting out anything we needed.

Its a very quiet area, lots of wonderful views. The fruit garden was amazing my daughter loved foraging for goodies.

Thanks for everything.

Lovely cottage,

We immediately felt at home in Les Mouries, especially the welcome basket was a nice touch! Upstairs there was a constant risk of bumping our heads, but after a few bumps we got the hang of bowing our heads :) The swimming pool had an enormous attraction to us, very nice we enjoyed it immensely. It was very hot the week we were there so the pool was put to good use! We visited surrounding villages, we especially liked Monpazier, Villareal and the large Intermarché near Bergerac. We had a very nice week and we recommend this place to anyone who enjoys tranquillity and medieval villages.

A Charming Home in a Tranquil Setting

  • 5 of 5

Waking up at Les Mouries is just the beginning of a perfect holiday. The views from every window are filled with sunflower fields, pastoral landscapes, and characteristic stone buildings. Except for the view to the pool, which invites you to take a morning dip before heading off to nearby Castillonnés for tea and patisserie. Lunch and afternoon wine at the garden table is filled with life...birdsong, bees buzzing among the ripening figs, and the leaves shading your spot rustling slightly in the breeze. Whether book, camera, computer, paints, binoculars,...or ping pong paddles...there are plenty of choices for a relaxing afternoon. The comforts of home take over later as you play games at the dining table or watch television in the lovingly decorated living room. The bedrooms are delightful with original wood beams and floors and beds that lull you to sleep easily. And then there's tomorrow, when you're off exploring the vineyards, châteaux, bastide villages, antique shops, and all morning markets of this area to bring back local wine and fresh produce for tonight's dinner. A week goes by too quickly. I hope to return soon.
