Overview

About the property

3BR, 2BA with hot tub, cathedral ceiling, tile floors and indoor-outdoor living.

Wonderful tile floors throughout, vaulted ceilings, fireplace, antique piano and an incredible vibe make The Hummingbird Homestead truly a special property to visit. The name comes from the spectacular little birds that often visit the guests during their stay. Indoor/outdoor style living is a special experience. Private and secluded, yet easy access to mountains, beach and downtown Ojai, make this lovely location one not to be missed.

As a guest here, you get access to it all! Internet, Cable TV, classic literature library, movie lovers DVD library, fresh oranges every morning! You name it this property has it. Lounge on the covered patio, soak in the hot tub while watching the kids play in the fenced in yard. Luxury with a country care and artistic flare.

We are social people and love making new friends from around the world. So we can be around to ask questions or simply have discussions with. Or we are happy to leave guests to their own devices and privacy. Whatever your pleasure, we are happy to have you stay in our lovely home.

Villanova Road is a beautiful road lined with giant eucalyptus trees and many mature oaks. We are only a ten minute walk to the Krotona Institute of Theosophy and the bike path that crosses into downtown Ojai is at the end of our street. While we are near everything, our neighborhood feels tucked away like a little secret.

The Ojai/Ventura Trail bike path is at the end of Villanova Rd. and offers easy access to both Ojai as well as the beaches in Ventura on foot, bicycle or horseback. For public transit, the Ojai Trolley stops at the end of our road as well as the Ventura/Ojai city bus. By car, you can be to downtown Ojai in 5 minutes or the beaches in Ventura in 15.

About Sol & Rebecca

Sol and Rebecca are artists that have relocated to the Ojai Valley from Brooklyn NY in search of a private, country life to raise their daughter and create amidst the inspiring backdrop that is unique to the natural wonders of Ojai. They enjoy entertaining guests, making music, baking, hiking, surfing and sharing stories with friends old and new. Rebecca is a classically trained opera singer and often treats guests with the magnificent sounds of her instrument.

Sol & Rebecca purchased this house in 2014

Why Sol & Rebecca chose Central Coast

We felt connected to this house from the moment we saw it. The Spanish style construction with high ceilings are the perfect acoustic space to sing and make music in. The citrus trees and native flowers dotting our property give off the intoxicating aroma of orange blossoms in the evening and jasmine in the morning. No matter how many times we sway in our hammocks and stare up at the brilliant night sky, we are continually mesmerized by the natural beauty of our property. 'Ojai' translates to 'Valley of the Moon' in native Chumash, and when we sit out on our patio at night and look up at the moon and stars, so perfect in the clean, crisp air, it truly lives up to its name. The master bedroom is roomy and private. It has a feeling that is both romantic and contemplative. It would be great for a couple seeking a romantic get away, a family out to explore the surroundings or a writer seeking solace. The saltillo Spanish tile flooring throughout the entire house keeps it cool in the summers. In addition, the tile flooring is very child friendly and an easy clean from toddler mishaps. It is a well insulated house and stays warm in winter.

Our home is close to everything Ojai has to offer, but feels private and separate from the bustle of town. Numerous orange eucalyptus trees welcome you in and the abundance of large trees that surround our property give it a feeling of history. It is a murmur of the way life used to be.

What makes this house unique

Private, fully fenced in property will allow parents to be at ease with children playing outside. Covered patio stretches the full length of the house and looks out onto the yard. Native plants all around attract hummingbirds and always provide a smell that will mark your memory of this magical valley. Just a short distance to the bike path that can either take you into town or all the way down to the beach in Ventura 11 miles away and never ride on a road with cars.

Fun and relaxing stay.

  • 5 of 5

Six of us girlfriends decided to spend time celebrating two of our friends' birthdays so we booked this accommodating house for our first trip in Ojai. It's very friendly and spacious set in a tranquil setting. House is close to shops, about two miles into town. We mostly cooked and enjoyed home meals at the house but went into town and ate at Suzanne's Cuisine and enjoyed the food and setting. We would recommend coffee also at Beacon's and House Full of Beans Coffee House, both within walking distance. Downtown Ojai is a charming and welcoming place to explore.

Sol, the owner, was very friendly and had plenty of recommendations for places to see and things to do while visiting. We loved picking fresh tangerines off the tree in front of the house. They're so sweet!

We would definitely return if our group decided to visit Ojai in the future.

A work in progress

  • 3 of 5

The owner is kind and personable but the house needs work, needs to be cleaned and made ready for NEW vacationers. We left a note with suggestions. Hopefully he will apply them. I am sure that the next person will have a much better experience.

Wonderful place, highly recommend, helpful owners and a great location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for a wedding with a group of six and had a great time! Sol met me at the door and gave me a tour and helped get us settled. Everything was clean and plenty of towels for the amazing hot tub off the master bedroom. 2 minute deive to grocery store and downtown ojai made it a perfect place for the weekend. Thanks!

Great location and stay

  • 5 of 5

This house was great for our weekend stay. The house was clean, comfortable and provided lots of space for our family to relax and enjoy. Great location to downtown Ojai as well as restaurants, grocery store, etc. The outdoor area of the house was a perfect bonus. Wonderful sitting on the patio enjoying the morning sun and view of the mountains. Thanks to Sol and Rebecca for a fabulous stay.

The house was great, the owners were wonderful, and it's located close enough to town for necessities but far enough away to feel like a vacation!
