850 sq.ft English Basement Studio-Separate Eat In Kitchen-Bathroom With BathTub
Large, spacious English Basement Studio with open floor is part of the Capital Hill Historic District and one of DC's great neighborhoods Close to everything. Get anywhere in the city with ease -- only one block from Union Station (Red Line Metro stop). Only 4 to 5 blocks from the Capitol Building, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress. A beautiful tree-lined walk past decorative water fountains is all that separates you from all the museums, monuments and memorials on the National Mall.
You will be amazed with the convenience and elegance of Union Station and its Red Line Metro stop. The Red Line is the main backbone of the DC Metro -- connecting to all of the other lines -- so the entire metro area is just minutes away -- pop over to Gallery Place/China Town, Metro Center, Dupont Circle, the National Zoo, or Foggy Bottom without the hassle of traffic or parking. If you are looking for a taxi, there is always a line of them waiting in front of Union Station. You can also catch many of the tour buses and the famous amphibious duck tours at Union Station as well. If you want to get around by bicycle, there is also a Capital Bike Share station at Union Station — great for getting around on the mall — ride them to the White House or the Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson Monuments.
Just around the corner from the house is the world's best bagel shop (no better sandwiches anywhere) and several other great neighborhood restaurants with outside seating along Massachusetts Avenue. Ask for Milton at La Loma -- the best margaritas around -- relaxing under shade umbrellas is one of the best ways to pass an afternoon or evening. We are also conveniently located to Eastern Market and all the shops and restaurants along Pennsylvania Avenue and 8th Street SE (about 1 mile away). We are even closer (just a few blocks) to one of the hottest growing areas in all of DC: the H Street Corridor with all of its great restaurants, bars, and boutique shopping.
If you want to get your own groceries and cook, there is a brand new Giant grocery store that just opened up 3 blocks away.
The kitchen is a full-size eat-in kitchen that is a separate room from the living area. The kitchen has granite countertops, a full-size sink, and full-size appliances (not the mini versions found in many studio and basement units), including a dishwasher. The kitchen has a table that comfortably sits four.
The living area is a large open space that is carpeted. Half of the space is a nice sized living room and the other half is the bedroom area. In the sleeping area there is a queen size bed, full closet and dressers for clothes and storage. There is a sitting area next to the window near the bed that has a nice desk if you need to do work or be on the computer.
The other half of the open space is the living room, which has a large comfortable futon, a couple nice chairs, and the TV. There is a bay window off of the living area that faces toward the street. The futon can be folded down to comfortably sleep 2 more people (in addition to the queen bed).
NOTE: If you are interested in a larger space or additional space, please see the listing for the main part of the row house (VRBO listing #575404).
There is a full size bathroom with tub and shower. Unfortunately the studio does not have a clothes washer or dryer. There is a dry-cleaner with laundry service two blocks away.
We have wifi internet and the TV has the DirecTV expanded package with HBO and Showtime -- parental controls available). The TV is also connected to the internet for easy ordering of NetFlix movies.
Finally, we are very conveniently located for travelers coming in and out of the city. Washington National Airport is less than 3 miles away (15-20 minutes in good traffic) or you can take Metro from Union Station to National Airport. We are, of course, super convenient for anyone traveling by train — trains depart Union Station almost every hour for destinations up and down the east coast — catch a train and be in Manhattan in less than 4 hours (2 hours if you take the express Acela train) -- go catch a Broadway show!
Whatever your interest, whatever your need, we are confident you will feel at home while enjoying your vacation or tending to business in the nation's capital.

This is a basement level apartment very close to Union Station, making the National Mall and all of the museums and sites within walking distance. It needs some attention from the owners and their housekeeping staff. We arrived to find a broken futon, unmade beds and broken pans that were dirty. It's too bad because the owners have put in a lovely and useful kitchen with granite countertops, but the lackluster housekeeping really diminishes this apartment.
Communication is difficult with Nevana, who never responded to two email inquiries before our stay. We never received the code to the door or wifi information as indicated through HomeAway. Upon our arrival we started calling every number referenced, and Nevana's husband returned our call. It's pretty stressful arrive in DC and find that you can't get into the apartment.
They returned the damage deposit within two weeks, although it lacked the promised $150 bonus refund for an early departure.
Overall, this one is tough. I've booked at least 20 reservations though HomeAway and VRBO in the past, and never encountered such a difficult time. However, I still believe that the Eric is trying to keep up with things here. With a change in housekeeping staff and a greater focus on communication, this could be a DC hidden gem.
Great location BUT needs. Lot of cleaning. Expected a refund
Great location but unit was filthy. Broken glass , dirt, spaghetti etc on floor in kitchen. The futon in the living room was not used as the frame was bent and could not go flat. Lots of mold in the bathroom. I relayed this to the owner and thought that he would offer a partial refund as we had to clean and my grandson had to sleep on the floor! No refund has been offered
Can I give a 0 star? The only thing this place has going for it is location.
We never received our confirmation email prior to arriving so we had to wait on the street 2 1/2 hours to get in the door. Once inside we realized the futon, or second bed for our children, was broke. My son cut his foot on a tack strip between the kitchen and main room where there is a 1-inch gap in flooring. The only bathroom in the unit has a broken toilet paper holder and no warm/hot water in the shower/tub. So to bathe we needed to boil water on the stove and put into the bathtub. We could not take a shower the whole stay. The unit is heated by two space heaters. We received our confirmation email 2 days and multiple emails after our arrival. This included our door code and wifi password.
Great place to stay in DC
This place is perfectly located very close to Union Station and the Capital. Comfortable, quiet, convienant. Would recommend to anyone.
Excellent location and amenities; had a great time!
Went with my Dad and nephew on a weekend sightseeing trip to DC, and this location was perfect for the three of us. It's just a five minute walk to Union Station, came with a fully equipped kitchen, and had enough space for everyone (queen bed and futon bed, and single trundle bed that pulled out from under the Queen bed). The TV had Direct TV with lots of channels (Netflix was listed on the property listing but I don't think it was actually available, or at least I couldn't find it). You do occasionally hear footsteps from the guests staying upstairs, but it wasn't annoying (they could probably hear us laughing from watching episodes of VEEP). There was a brief issue when 4pm of check-in day arrived and I hadn't yet received the unlock code via email, but when I called the owner she was very quick to return my call to make sure I received the email as an attachment through the VRBO app. Apparently it was an issue with a change that had been made recently to the website. Since we didn't arrive to the house until late that night, it wasn't an issue since I still ended up with the unlock code before we got there.
The only suggestions I would make is that the bathroom could use an upgrade to the tub/shower/toilet, and the toilet paper holder was attached loosely to the wall (we tried to tighten it while there but didn't have any screwdrivers). There is also some slight wear to the carpet between the living area and kitchen.
But overall, this is definitely a great value for the money while you are in DC. I would absolutely stay there again.
Special thanks to Nevena for making sure everything went smoothly.
O.k.---Oct 17, 2017 trip
Location was fantastic. The lady that lives down the street that helped us was great. Communication was very difficult. Emails went unanswered until the information was not even needed. Unable to get into house. Wrong code was given. When we finally got into key box, there wasn't a key. When neighbor got us into house, it had not been cleaned. Cleaning lady needed an hour to get back to house then a couple of hours to clean. We went to eat supper and buy groceries. The cleaning lady apologized for mix-up. Eric (husband of owner) told me that mistakes do happen and they would comp our supper, which was $65.00. Which for four people in Washington is not much. O.k., he's right and it was a nice gesture. After several phone calls and messages left asking for supper comp, I reached Eric and he stated that money would be attached to deposit refund. O.K. The deposit has been refunded for over two months now without any additional comp credit. I have called an left messages on Eric's and Novena's phones and text messaged with no response. I give up but due to handling of problem cannot say that I have warm and fuzzy feelings about Washington stay.
