Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bath plus hot and cold private outside shower, sleeps 6,HB #578247

Holden Beach is somewhat unique in that it is south facing and thus runs East to West providing for interesting sun rises and sets. As you cross the high span bridge to the island, you are likely to be 'awed' by the view of the island, the expanse that is available for your fun and pleasure, AND no high-rise buildings. The beach is quite narrow at the East end and very wide at the West end. The 'sweet spot' is near mid-island where the beach is wide but the distance to cross the dunes is short. Our beach home, the first house on Frigate Dr. which intersects Ocean Blvd. West (the main thoroughfare), falls within that 'sweet spot'. As such, we are removed from the traffic noise of the main road but less than 100 feet from the private beach access walkway.

Our beach home is a nicely furnished, 3 bedroom, one level, single family home with an open floor plan yet secluded bedrooms (bed linens are included during Resort and Prime seasons). It is well appointed with most of the appliances, eating and cookware you might have at home. The large table provides more than ample seating in addition to the counter chairs. There is central AC and fans in every room. There are three cable TVs and high speed internet connections and password controlled WIFI for your convenience. Exit cleaning is included during Resort and Prime seasons. No dogs or cats are allowed.

There are rockers on both front and rear decks. The shady concrete pad area under the house is large enough to accommodate 2 cars, a swing which provides the opportunity to enjoy the usual cooling breezes, a charcoal 'pot' grill, a large, sturdy picnic table, the private outdoor shower (hot and cold water) which is wonderful for cool down and rinse off upon return from the beach, and clothes lines for wet towels.

In addition to relaxing on the beach, one could: walk to the end of the island (about an hour or so round trip); fish from the surf or the pier; visit the kid size amusement park, miniature golf, water slide, and go-carts on the causeway; treat yourself to a local homemade ice cream; listen to the 'turtle talk' seminar that is offered weekly near the bridge and maybe see the hatchlings head back to the ocean; watch the shrimp boats in action off the coast; watch the deer that make the island their home; enjoy the weekend musical events at the Pavilion under the bridge; enjoy the spring and fall craft fairs on the island; sample the many dining options; play golf at the approx. 100 courses within a 60 min. radius; bike, kayak, boat or jet-ski (rentals available near bridge); enjoy the night life at Myrtle Beach (House of Blues, Medieval Times, Alabama Theater, Carolina Opry, Legends, The Dixie Stampede, the night clubs at Broadway at the Beach); visit Calabash, the 'Seafood Capital of the World'; take in the history in Wilmington including the battleship USS North Carolina; and/or tour a local winery.

About Bill Marshall

We first visited Holden Beach in 1979 and fell in love with the quiet, non-commercial, family oriented community. We tried other beaches but always came back to Holden as the best fit for our family. In the mid '80's, we purchased a condo and in 2001 upgraded to Pirate Pride, our current home away from home on Frigate Dr. We maintain this property to the same standards as our primary residence. We enjoy having others discover and experience the relaxation, tranquility and fun of Pirate Pride and Holden Beach.

Bill Marshall purchased this house in 2001

Why Bill Marshall chose Holden Beach

We love the wide open beach, the family friendly community and the absence of the 'noise' of the more commercialized beaches. Yet there is so much to do in close proximity to Holden Beach if the need or interest arises.

What makes this house unique

One can walk without crowds or bike or rollerblade around the whole island without too much concern about traffic. It's the best of both worlds: quiet if you want it but lots of activities near-by if desired.

Great location, great house

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time at Holden. The owner was great to work with. Check in/check out couldn't have been quicker or easier. The house is in the quiet West End of the island. We loved how close the beach access was in proximity to the house. The house was extremely clean and well maintained. Beds were very comfortable. Didn't need to use the foam topper we always travel with 😊 The front porch with rocking chairs was a nice place to read a book while enjoying the ocean breeze in the evening. Enclosed outside shower in the back was in very nice shape and not "scary" as some we have experienced. Without hesitation, I would recommend this rental.

Love Pirates Pride @ 105 Frigate Dr.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five (two adults and three children) rented “Pirates Pride” from June 24 – July 1, 2017. The property was on quiet Frigate Dr. and has private beach access directly across the street, which was a huge bonus. We also discovered that the property was about four miles removed from the bridge over the intercoastal waterway, which we learned was a major benefit because of the little to no traffic and safety for the kids. Four miles from the bridge may appear to be a lot, but it is a quick trip to the grocery store if you forget something. It was also a nice bike ride to the ice cream shop after a long day at the beach. As for the house itself…it was perfect and did not disappoint. If you want to eliminate the house after looking at the pictures, please don’t, and continue reading. The décor of the house is right out of 1980, and to be honest, it brought me back to my childhood. There are two dining tables, with the larger being perfect for our family meals and game nights. Everything in the house is in perfect working order (e.g., refrigerator, ice maker, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, A/C, wifi). The oven temperature runs a little high; however, by using an oven thermometer, you are good to go. The house is well furnished and the kitchen has everything you need. I do recommend bringing a few kitchen items that you are familiar with. I enjoy cooking, so I never leave for a week without a few of my trusted tools. Some added bonuses are the following, spacious rooms, very clean, great front deck and back porch, outdoor shower, bed linens (for week long rentals), washer and dryer, and there is not a cleaning fee. Also, there is plenty of storage under the house as we traveled with a surfboard, two boogie boards, five beach cruisers, an EZ-Up, and plenty of beach toys for spending all day on the sand. There are a few inexpensive rental groups if you forget any beach equipment, which was wonderful since we forgot to pack our beach chairs and were able to rent some for the week. Overall, we would rent the property again, as it allowed us to continue our yearly vacation on the east coast. One final note, I do recommend reaching out to the owner, as he was more than helpful and willing to answer any questions that came to mind. I hope you all enjoy “Pirates Pride” as much as we did.

My husband and I were very pleased with this house, true to description and photos! Well-stocked kitchen and living space, lots of great natural light, comfortable furniture and such a close walk to the beach. Bill was very helpful and gracious in answering my questions, and we would certainly recommend his place to anyone!

Great house, great location and a very enjoyable relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We all loved the house as it had large rooms for all 4 of us. We all had seats in the living room and plenty of space for eating as well as puzzles and games. The beach access was right at the end of the road and plenty of space to store chairs and stuff under the house. We even got to enjoy an evening lightning show from the front deck. Capuccino by the Sea was a favorite for coffee/tea in the morning. Patronies Pizza is a must stop for some great local pizza. We enjoyed our trip to Calabash for putt putt and shopping. North Myrtle was only 45 minutes away for more putt putt.

Wonderful week at Holden

  • 5 of 5

Pirates Pride is true to its listing and pictures on VRBO. I had several email conversations with the owner. His reply time was very quick. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood is vey quiet. We were so close to the beach access that we had no worries about going in for breaks. Everything you could possibly need for cooking is provided. It is vey roomy, with the way the house is laid out you could retreat to your bedroom or you can join others in the living room or either of the two porches that offer shade and breezes all day long ( just may have to switch porches at certain times of day). The living room and dining tables were plentiful and don't worry if you forget to bring your favorite book, they even have that covered. I took my kindle and IPad but intead read a book from the bookshelf. The beach was never crowded in the area we at, just like having a private beach. The weather was perfect all week and the realty company had my packet all ready with my keys, so no hold up there. I will be staying here again. I'm not sure who those cutie pies are in the pics decorating the house, but I have a feeling they are well loved. Thanks Bill for renting out your house. We really loved it~
