Private Beachfront Home 15 Km South Of Mahahual With Breathtaking 360 Views

If you've ever wanted to play Robinson Crusoe or Swiss Family Robinson, but still have communication with the rest of the world at your fingertips, Casa de Cocos is the vacation home you've been dreaming of. Located 15 Kilometers south of the picturesque village of Mahahual, our home is the last home on the beach road to Xcalak and sits way out of view of any other homes. You will have the beach and our slice of the ocean to yourself, but if you get lonely, neighbors are just a short walk away. We also have an on-sight caretaker that you'll hardly even know is around until you need him. The home has high speed internet and cell service for all of your communication needs. Casa de Coco's living quarters are on the second floor which allows for cool ocean breezes and spectacular views. A second story balcony runs the entire front of the house for great ocean views, but if that's not enough you can take the interior stairs to the rooftop where you can view the sunset and watch the stars come out at night. The kitchen/dining/living area are an open design. The master bedroom has a king size bed and private full bath. It also has sliding glass doors that open onto the main balcony. The second bedroom has two twin beds that could be pushed together to make a double. The large main bathroom is conveniently located directly across from the second bedroom.

Downstairs is the caretakers quarters and storage. Another verandah runs along the front of the house at ground level. There is plenty of space for some alone time.

Then there's the beach! You can walk out into the ocean forever on the soft sand. There is no grass or rocks, just sand. However, please remember that the sea is a temperamental sculptress and the beach is her ever-changing masterpiece. The only thing we can guarantee is that we will keep our portion of beach as accessible and clean as mere humans can.

The house is located across the beach road from the beach, but the beach is part of the property. The traffic on the beach road is minimal, less than 6 cars a day, and will not interfere at all with your enjoyment of the beach.

Casa de Coco is off the grid in more ways than one. There are no municipal services to the property but it is serviced by an efficient and effective power system of solar panes and wind generator. We require that our guests adopt a 'beach bum' attitude and leave the high wattage blow dryers at home. There is also no air conditioning but we think that you'll find the ocean breezes more than adequate. Although you will have more than enough water and electricity available, we do ask that you be mindful, not wasteful. Please be kind to the planet and our energy system, all of will reap the benefits.

Casa de Coco's remoteness is a huge part of her charm. You will want to prepare for your stay here by stopping in Playa del Carmen or Tulum to stock up on groceries and supplies for your stay here. can live like a local and plan your menu according to what is available at the fish market, produce stand, and tiendas in the village of Mahahual. The closest restaurant is 5 minutes away and there are several restaurants and bars strung along the beach road, you can bar-hop your way into town and back again.

Robinson Crusoe and Swiss Family Robinson learned to get along with the creatures of the jungle, and, here at Casa de Coco, you'll be given that opportunity too. They were here first and we consider ourselves lucky to get to hang out in their backyard for a little while. There are ways to limit their numbers and keep most of them outside where they belong, but you will probably make the acquaintance of a few. Wear insect repellant and shake your shoes out before you put them on and you'll be just fine. To enjoy the beauty of fireflies lighting the jungle night and the songs of tropical birds in the morning, you gotta learn to put up with some of their ugly cousins.

About Mary Reid

We are old sailors that washed ashore on the Yucatan Peninsula after 12 years of living on a sailboat. In 2009 we bought a house on the Gulf of Mexico in the fishing village of Chelem, but we missed the Caribbean so when we saw Casa de Coco for sale we jumped at the opportunity.

Mary Reid purchased this house in 2014

Why Mary Reid chose Quintana Roo

Ahhh...Mahahual and Ahhh...the magnificent Caribbean water. Nuff said.

What makes this house unique

Casa de Coco really is away from it all. We hope it stays that way, but we can't guarantee it. So you better hurry down before everyone else finds out about it.

This VRBO landed us in actual paradise. The house is amazing, and perfect for four people. The bathrooms are great and a full use kitchen. Not to mention an unbelievable rooftop where we spent every night stargazing and a wonderful balcony with a view pictures can't do justice. We had a great time kayaking, boogy boarding, laying out on the beach chairs, all with equipment that was already there. The person who lives there full year to help the visitors is so kind and helpful and the furthest thing from a burden. The beach directly in front of the house is clean and the water is warm and perfect. It's a quick drive into town for some of the best fresh food restaurants we've ever been too. The massages are amazing too! Mary was an excellent host, easily reachable at all times and so kind. Highly recommend all of it.

Truly a Slice of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful beach home that has all you need and more. Home is located close to Mahahual, on a private and gorgeous stretch of glimmering turquoise Caribbean water. We thoroughly enjoyed the use of kayaks and spending our days swimming and suntanning. The kitchen had everything and more that we needed to prepare the meals when we stayed in, and there was also a BBQ where we grilled up burgers and steaks. We stopped along the way in Tulum to pickup food and beverages for our stay as the owner had advised. Loved having internet and satellite TV as well as cell phone reception. The master bedroom had a stunning ocean view and the upstairs terrace always had balmy ocean breezes. Don't forget to go up to the rooftop for 360 views of the area. This was truly a dream vacation, we will definitely be returning to Casa de Coco!

Excellent home on private beach!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for a FABulous month! The beach and surrounding yard are gorgeous! we even had a papaya tree in the back with delicious papayas for our pleasure! The house is all solar and rain water capture but you would never know it--the house runs perfectly and has an onsite caretaker as well. it would easily accommodate 6 adults...there are 3 beds and 2 bathrooms--kitchen had everything you need and the deck out front provides sweeping views of Caribbean! We would love to go back--or even live there forever;-)

Casa De Coco

Lovely private home on a very quiet beach. Equipped with everything you need including a BBQ, satellite tv, internet, & kayaks. Onsite caretaker. Close to Mahahual but not in the overrun with tourists area. Perfect spot to get away from it all, but not too far away.

I will be back!

Comfrtable and well equipped beach home

  • 5 of 5

Casa de Cocos is a lovely, comfortable, beach home. Constant breezes kept us all cool, expecially as the living area is on the second floor. We cooked a number of meals and found the kitchen to be very well equipped, including oil, salt and pepper, etc. and a large bbq. Internet, cel phone reception, and satellite tv are unexpected bonuses in this secluded area. The caretaker lives on-site and is very helpful. The town of Mahahual is about 20 km away - we had wonderful pizzas at Divino Restaurante and enjoyed strolling along the malecon.

Real Mexico- beautiful, relaxing, unique- must return!

  • 5 of 5

Casa de Coco is a beautiful home- warmly decorated, modern, well furnished, and the perfect balance of beach front luxury and laid back relaxed style. Our family, with two younger kids, were thoroughly comfortable here. We loved the space and the view was intense, both during the day and in the moonlight. We loved that we had our own piece of paradise for privacy but could easily get into town with a short car drive. In fact, we spent one day in town, just hanging out at one of the beach front restaurants (the one with the pool for the kids!), then another day in the neighboring town of Bacalar and and its beautiful lake (take a local boat tour- amazing experience), and another at the local ruins of Chacchoben (not in the actual village though, unless you want a bit of off roading). We also came with menu food items we wanted to prepare (and stop and pick up those road side pineapples- amazing!) and were delighted to be able to eat at home in the well organized and ready kitchen. Particularly enjoyed using the French Press coffee maker each morning- perfect for a getaway (bring your favorite coffee grinds - maybe even from up North if you have a special one). Lastly- even though we wanted to get away from the main drag, the internet was perfect. Never an issue and so we could stay connected, as much as we wanted (travelers who go outside the main tourist areas know this is a huge plus- working internet!). We could definitely see Casa de Coco as a perfect telecommute location for a month. Lastly, the owners were wonderfully communicative from start to finish. Even after our trip they followed up to make sure everything was perfect. They helped with just the right amount of guidance to make our week here the perfect getaway from our busy lives. Would return in a heartbeat.

Casa de Coco is located 15 km south of the village of Mahahual and you can be as busy, or not, as you want to be. Spend Day One just on the beach reading, swimming and strolling, maybe wander down to Almaplena Beach Resort for lunch or a late breakfast. The next day hop into the car and head to Tulum, 2 hours away, to visit the ruins or checkout their busy beach scene, or maybe even play some golf. Day 3, take a trip into Chetumal, the capital of Quintana Roo, for some retail therapy at the mall, maybe stop off at Lake Bacalar, Lake of the Seven Colors, on the way home. Spend the next day close to home, maybe wander into Mahahual to sip margaritas at a beachside bar while you watch the cruise ship passengers scurry back and forth for the few hours they are ashore. You'll just sit back and smile, you get to stay
