The Villa is a true rental. Everything in the Villa was purchase with a rental in mind, in other words cheap. The most uncomfortable mattresses I have slept on in a long time (cheap), and the linens and towels provided left a lot to be desired. The Villa backs up to Rte. 12 and the master bedroom does as well, so expect to hear the traffic going by until late at night. For the cost, I will stay somewhere else on our next visit. Oh, and we received the door code 32 minutes before the 4:00 pm check-in time, so we had to travel from Richmond, Va without the code or communication from the owner whom I had contacted early that morning. A little dicey.

Great for couples.

  • 4 of 5

My family and I stayed here last week. This house is great for couples. Not so great for families with small kids or if you have to cook a lot. We have stayed at two other houses in the Villas at Corolla Bay that were perfect for our family of 5 with all the needs one would ask for with 3 small kids. Right before we got there Hank told us the oven was broken and a new one could not be delivered until after we left. He was very responsive and reimbursed us for buying a toaster oven and also a trash can with a lid. I did have to make the 20 mile drive back to Walmart the day after we got there to get one. This house has very very basic amenities. If you cook, bring your own tools and cooking ware. It is also one of the furthest away from the beach. Our kids made the walk each day although we did have to carry our youngest most of the time. Also there is no grass yard for kids to play on as you can see from the pictures. Just a rock yard. The window shades on the street side are nice but let the street lamp light in. Luckily when our kids went to bed it was dark but if your kids are use to blackout shades bring them. There is also no wagon to load your stuff to walk to the beach. We used our backpack to bring some snacks, and water bottles and everyone carried their own towels and boogie boards. The beach chairs provided are very basic and rusty. Bring your own or just use a towel. There is also a charcoal grill which was annoying to use but we made it work. The bunkbeds were on the ground level instead of the bedroom level so our kids shared a bed. Which is fine since it was a king bed. There are also no dressers, just nightstands with two small drawers in each room. My husband and I used the shelves in our kids bathroom for our clothes. Because Hank was very responsive and worked with us I do give 4 stars and we booked last minute. If you go in with the mindset of everything is VERY basic and you are at the beach you'll be fine. If you go in thinking everything will be top notch you will be disappointed.

Good times!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying at this property. We feel the location is great and the house is very comfortable. Lots to do nearby with easy access to the lighthouse and a 0.5 mi walk to the beach. Pool is great for new swimmers (our son is 5 and the shallower depth was great for learning).

Girls Week in Corolla

Thanks so much Hank! It was the perfect home. The house was clean - the beds were great (new and sleep inducing) and the community pool was perfect. Make sure you get your boil on at the Outer Banks Boil Company.

Great Place to Stay

We were extremely satisfied with our stay at the Beach Retreat. The house was well equipped/suited for multiple families with children. We enjoyed the community pool and easy access to the beach.
