Beautiful and private!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to help us experience Charleston for the first time...plus it was our honeymoon! Its conveniently located to be close to downtown, but also a quick drive out to Folly Beach. The owners are helpful and easy to work with as well. I highly recommend it!

disappointed

  • 1 of 5

Before our trip, I spoke with Charles on two occasions, and he explained that he and his family would be out of town for the time we were to be staying. This wouldn't be a problem and everything would be taken care of for us.

When we arrived on a Saturday evening it was pouring down rain so we were in a hurry to park and get into our condo. Immediately the next morning in daylight we noticed that there really wasn't much room to park our motorcycle trailer, as Charles had assured me, and the main house and condo were almost connected, not as pictured. At this point, we were really glad there would be no one home at the main house, because we had been hoping to have more privacy. The next day, we got up and went to Charleston for the day. When we returned, it was a nice day, and my husband and I were ready to relax and have a cocktail. We walked out to the dock and sat and enjoyed a nice quiet few moments watching the boats and birds before we got ready for dinner. While we were getting ready to go, there was a knock at the door, so my husband went to answer it. There was a woman there (Charles' real estate agent. The "estate" was on the market) and she began berating my husband for being in the swimming pool and told us we weren't allowed in the pool. We were surprised because we hadn't been in the pool. She said they had us on video surveillance and we were seen in the pool. Again, we did not get in their pool. Well, after a conversation with Charles on the phone the woman was told we were ok but that we really weren't supposed to be back there and not allowed in the pool, which was fine with us because the pool was gross, but there were no signs that we weren't allowed back in the back yard (in fact, in one conversation with Charles, he told me to please keep the gate to the backyard shut... so I assumed that our walking out to the pier and having a cocktail was ok, especially with no signs saying otherwise). Charles apologized for the woman's behavior and her tone and assured me that he would refund us for one night of our trip. I haven't received a refund yet, and it has been 2 weeks. Needless to say, the rest of the trip was quite disappointing in light of the news that we were being watched by surveillance cameras. I don't know if there are cameras in the condo, but it was a very unsettling thought the entire time we were there.

Owner's Response: Wow, this is our first and only negative review after receiving nothing but 5 star reviews since our Cottage has been on VRBO. I'm sorry you were disappointed in your stay. The location of the Cottage is private, secured and exactly as it is pictured online. Our entire 2 acre property (where there is ample room to park a motorcycle trailer) is fenced in and controlled with a security gate at the entrance. Whether or not we are in town and on site at the property, I inform all guests that the back area of our house is private and not accessible to guests. That is why I say that we keep the gate shut and I ask guests to comply with keeping it shut. With an "estate" of this nature, it is necessary and understable to have security cameras in place which monitor the exterior of the property. It would be negligent on our part not to install this type of security when we are out of town. We do this for the safety of our family and home as well as our guests staying in the cottage and it is part of our alarm security system. The cameras themselves are obvious to the naked eye and do not monitor the entrance to the Cottage much less the interior of the Cottage. That would be illegal. When we are not away during the summer (the remainder of the year) we have had nothing but positive experiences with all of our guests and vice versa. Our property is a magical setting in an unbeatable location.

Stunning property. Perfectly positioned in the region. Beautiful accommodations. Outstanding.

This is an absolutely wonderful place for a grown couple to chill and enjoy the area. Easy Uber to downtown, and a quick drive to the beach. And the bonus is being on a multi million dollar property too. My advice? Don't rent it. Save it for me!

High End Carriage House

  • 4 of 5

We had an enjoyable and comfortable stay in the One-Bedroom Carriage House during our recent visit to Charleston for the Spoleto Festival. This is a beautifully appointed apartment within a gated upper end private residence on the Wappoo Creek. Charles was helpful in arranging for our arrival and access to the property. The location was convenient to Charleston within about 10-15 minutes as well as many restaurants on James and John's Islands. We encountered one issue with the washer not working but were offered access to an alternate laundry on the premises. The mattress was found to be too soft, but others may find to this to be preferable. Between the squirrels scurrying on the roof and the Shelties announcing their morning routine, we found an alarm was not needed. All in all, this was a comfortable accommodation for our stay in Charleston.

Wonderful cottage accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week exploring the Charleston area and stayed in a very different accommodations on James, Folly and Johns islands. We spent our first two nights in this wonderful James Island cottage. The location was perfect for easy access to downtown. The upstairs unit was tastefully decorated, in great shape and very clean. We definitely recommend staying at this lovely property and look forward to staying here when we visit Charleston again.
