ABOUT THE AREA

Squaw Valley Resort is the largest ski area in North Lake Tahoe, and was the host site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. With 3600 skiable acres, 29 chairlifts, and the only funitel in the US, skiing Squaw has earned a place on many a skier’s bucket list. Now under joint ownership with Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley is in year five of a five-year, $70 million renaissance, which has brought new chairlifts, an iconic yoga studio and the world’s first ski-in/ski-out Starbucks to the mountains.

Beyond the slopes, visitors can enjoy ice skating, snow tubing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. The Village at Squaw offers a wide array of dining and apres options, as well as a full service spa, yoga studio, and many retail offerings.

A true four seasons resort, summer in Squaw Valley is not to be missed. Hike or ride the tram to High Camp Pool and & Hot Tub, where you can swim or enjoy a cocktail at the poolside bar. Play a round of miniature golf, conquer the 25’ outdoor climbing wall, or try your hand at the ropes course. When you’re ready for a day at the lake, sandy beaches await, only fifteen minutes from your door.

* All of our homes feature a full kitchen, washer and dryer, outdoor grill, and wireless internet (any exceptions will be noted above).

Guestbook comments from the manager

Overall the condo was very nice. However, the Internet didn't work for a few days when we needed it for work while playing hookie. Bring your own wood because there is a nice fireplace and the home is heated by floor heaters. Upstairs is really warm and the fireplace will keep downstairs cozy.

The property manager was very helpful.

The vacation rental was clean.

I was more than happy with the location.

I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Reviewer Comments:

This rental is fine in terms of functionality, but it was not very pleasant in terms of decor. The carpet and sofa looked and faintly smelled a bit old; the towels were worn out (although the bed linens were nice and comfortable). The art hanging above the fireplace is truly hideous: a large painting of men leering at a woman's rear end in thong underwear. The whole place looked like it had not been updated since the early 1990s. We will not stay there again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We're glad to hear the home functioned well for you, and I'm sorry the decor was not to your taste. Privately owned homes do reflect the preferences of the home owner, and we'd recommend future renters take a careful look at the photographs of the home, as they are accurate.

Reviewer Comments:

We had a rough start, but I will lay out both the positives and the negatives. Positives: Very close to the slopes; nice size living space; clean; all the rooms are just how they look; easy access and tons of parking; the beds are very comfortable Negatives It is impossible to get a hold of anyone if you can not find the place; the place is not easy or obvious to find at night in a storm (reminder there is NO ONE to answer questions); there is no number on the unit to tell you you are at the correct one; it's a little old school (think 80's rewind); there is no hairdryer or fire wood; the hot tub is also 80s rewind old school, but at least they have one Really the biggest issue was that there is absolutely NO accessibility for assistance other than what is provided on the pre-check in instructions. I would recommend this only to a friend who is arriving during the day and with a ton of extra clarification on how to find the unit.

Reviewer Comments:

All-in-all the place was great and the management team was very responsive and accommodating. The place was exactly what we needed and only about a mile and a half away from the mountain. There were two minor details that should be mentioned before signing up: 1. There is a gate to get into the property. The management team says it is always open, but regardless there is a gate to get in, so I feel like it should be provided just in case the gate is down. We were not provided the code and arrived at the property after the office closed, so had to call the emergency line. We got lucky that someone else in the residence pulled up as well, otherwise we would have waited about 30 minutes for the team to get back to us. Not the end of the world and the team offered late checkout to make it up to us. 2. The hot tub is on the other side of the street. In Tahoe the temperature drops at night so running across the street is not an ideal situation. It may have been nice to mention in the description that is was a community hot tub as that may have weighed in our decision (maybe it was, but I did not get that impression).

Reviewer Comments:

This vacation rental was ok. I rented it with my siblings and our spouses to attend the Wanderlust festival at Squaw so the location was fine. Some things to note that I found inappropriate for a vacation rental: stained sheets and towels, the vacation rental company left 2 rolls of toilet paper for 6 guests for 3 nights and 4 days, they left 1 old, dirty sponge to clean our dishes. Overall the place served its purpose - but I would probably not come back.
