My favorite vacation
My family and I have spent many happy days at Lou and Lil's. This practically laid out home is perfect for a large family, a multi-generational family, two families or several couples to share. It is conveniently located to many favorite Glen Arbor activities: the big lake, Glen Lake, the bike/walking path, restaurants, shopping, galleries and Sleeping Bear Dunes.
We found it well equipped and comfortable with large common areas for cooking, eating or "hanging out". There are smaller indoor and outdoor areas to watch a movie or read a good book away from distractions.
You and your family and/or friends will love staying in this spacious, clean, furnished for everyday comfort. The central location makes it easy to get to all the area has to offer walking, biking or by car. It has a full kitchen, a centrally located washer and dryer, a large driveway with attached garage and outdoor areas to enjoy. The street is convenient but not busy, so it is quiet.
We have been here in the summer and in the snowiest, coldest days of the winter holidays. The pot belly stove makes it very cozy. We have been here with our kids, and without them. We have been there with close friends and even with people we had not vacationed with before. We have flown into a Traverse City. We even drove from New York City with our dog for a special holiday! This is a great place. You will enjoy.
My family and I enjoyed a beautiful vacation at Lou N' Lil's and cannot wait to go back. Restaurants, stores, and the beach are all within a few blocks, yet the house sits on a quiet street away from the hubbub of downtown Glen Arbor. We felt very much at home and appreciated the owner's thoughtful appointments throughout the house, from a fully stocked kitchen to the lovely Up North art that adorns the walls. There is plenty of space to stretch out and read a book or play board games in the living room, watch movies in the den, or sit out back and marvel at the clear nighttime skies. I have rented several other properties in the Glen Arbor area, though none as nice as this one. We hope to return every summer!
Best Rental Ever!
We really enjoyed our stay at this very cozy home. We couldn't have asked for a better setting or experience. It is set on a lovely wooded lot with a great private deck where we enjoyed our coffee every morning and a good book every afternoon! The home is located off the main drag, but within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, kayak rentals and Lake Michigan. We also really enjoyed the ability to cook our own meals. The home is spacious, very comfortable and private. We found it to be an excellent value and great fit for our stay and would highly recommend it to others.
Spend your money elsewhere
We checked in on Sunday August 2nd 2015 - 10 minutes before a storm came through and ravaged the entire town. The storm took out thousand of trees (my estimate) and left the entire area all the way to Traverse city without power. The entire town remained without power until Friday afternoon and power and water was restored to our unit on Friday evening. Not once did anyone (owner or Leelanau Vacation Reentals, the management company) come to check on us, make sure we were ok, that we had water, that we knew about the resources available, let us know what options were available. The only communication we received was an email to current and upcoming rentals that was MUCH more focused on ensuring that the future rentals didn't cancel vs. ensuring that the current renters were ok/alive. On Wednesday we all decided that we couldn't take it any more without a shower and checked into a 2 rooms at hotel in Traverse city for the night. Prior to leaving we checked in at the office as they were finally "open" to inquire as to our options. A confused seeming, but pleasant employee told us that if we had left earlier we could have been given a full refund, but now they were likely giving 50%. We asked several questions with different scenerios, but she was unable to really elaborate. On Friday, prior to getting power back, we stopped in again and spoke to the owner. She was incredibly rude during the entire conversation, stated that they could give a 50% discount (but I feel confident that no money would have been offered if we had not asked). She stated that since they didn't cause the issue that they shouldn't have to comp anything. I stated that even at a 50% discount that still amounted to paying over $100/night for camping plus our increased costs for hotel rooms, eating out, ruined food, etc. I offered to pay the full nightly rate for the days with power (Friday and Saturday) and the most expensive camping rate at DH Day campground for the other days - $40/day. This owner was more interested in ensuring she got every dime possible out of us regardless of how satisfied we were. Do not rent from Leelanau Vacation Rentals or this home - once your check is cashed you will not get any support if needed during your vacation.
We are so very sorry that this was your experience. "The Storm" of 2015 was a terrible, fairly unpredicted one, and without power, water, phones, email, or any ability to communicate for 5 days of that week, we were truly doing our best to keep our heads above water, make sure that our renters were all safe (we did visit every single property), and keep things running as much as we could. Because we've never had any emergency of this sort, we will admit that we had no plan in place (we do now), and were scrambling to figure out the best way to handle everything. All employees in our office worked 10-12 days straight during this time, all made calls from their personal cell phones to contact renters, and everyone was working their hardest to make the best of a bad situation. Admittedly, it was a confusing situation, to say the least. We were offering full refunds to those who left as soon as they were able, and 50% discounts to those who stayed for the week. We thought this to be incredible fair, especially considering that as our policies and procedures read, with a natural disaster, we aren't actually responsible to return any payment. However, we deemed that unacceptable, and wanted to compensate our renters to the best of our ability.
Again, we handled the situation the best we knew at that time, and are sorry that you see it otherwise. We thank you for having stayed with us.
