About Dawn Grinenko

We fell in love with the quiet beauty of Hayesville, Julie Mountain and the Tusquittee Valley after purchasing a vacation home nearby. We purchased this property as part of our lifetime dream of developing a place for rest, discernment and restoration for others after difficult journeys in life. Our ultimate plan is to develop this property into a place of retreat for families who have a child or parent with a serious illness. We are both retiring from the health care field and hope to continue to serve in a healing capacity to all who visit The Still Place on Compass Creek

Dawn Grinenko purchased this house in 2013

Why Dawn Grinenko chose Lake Chatuge

Grace and patience brought us to this property. We had planned to actualize our dream at a farm in Florida. But after Dawn was diagnosed with Melanoma cattle ranching and farming in the hot Florida sun was no longer an option. After being unable to afford farm land in the Hayesville area this beautiful serene setting came on the market and as they say the rest shall be history as it unfolds. We hope you will be a part of layering this place with the love of your family and friends as we develop the property in the next several years.

What makes this house unique

Compass Creek is the true gem of this property for all ages. The soothing sound of the water is like a lullaby. The wild rainbow trout are more beautiful than any gem we might find in the ruby, sapphire and garnet laden hills surrounding us. Glimpsing the sparkle of the creek water from each of the rooms is sometimes breath-taking as the water dances around the rocks. The property is situated in a quiet, friendly community with access to trails on our 27 acre property and surrounding National Forest.

Feels like being at home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had an awesome time staying at The Still Place. Dawn and Craig were very helpful from reserving the property, providing spot-on directions, and giving us helpful tips around the area. The kids had a great time in the play room as well as the treehouse and creek. Everything we needed was there and it felt very comfortable.

We will definitely come back again!

Perfect family retreat and getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were blessed to stay at The Still Place for four nights for a last-minute family retreat while one daughter was evacuated from the coast and we were saying farewell to our Army son before his next post. From the first contact Dawn was amazing to work with and she and Craig were both so helpful and pleasant. The house is without question the best stocked we have ever stayed in. Everything was comfortable and "homey" and we enjoyed the time just relaxing and renewing and enjoying God's beautiful creation. We can't wait to go back again and highly recommend to pretty much anyone!

Thanksgiving getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We've recently returned from a 3 night stay at "The Still Place" and we must say that it was absolutely wonderful! The house was beautiful, clean and completely furnished with anything and everything you could possibly need, even down to games for the whole family. The owners went to great lengths to make sure everything is there for your enjoyment and relaxation. It was just what we needed! We highly recommend renting "The Still Place".

Creekside Home in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

This home on Compass Creek was perfect for us. The house has everything you would possibly need, very clean and full of warmth. We hoped to see the leaves changing color and we were not disappointed as we traveled along 64 toward Franklin. We would sit on the back deck in the evenings as the sun would set and enjoy the sounds of the creek and the cool evening air. The home is larger then we thought but still very homey and warm. Children will love the loft with secret play room. We enjoyed exploring the creek and its island with a bewitching hobbit house. The new tree house will be great for children of all ages. We took advantage of long walks along the road following the creek and the beautiful untouched nature. The temperature was perfect with low 40s at night and mid 60s in the afternoon. Hayesville is a great little town centrally located for all your western North Carolina excursions. We enjoyed the charming shops and people in Hayesville and are looking forward to enjoying the opening of the repurposed town hall on our next visit. This is a perfect place for a couple or entire family to rest, reflect, renew, and rejuvenate. As you read the cabin's journal you will find that Dawn and Craig are special people. We will return and bring more family!
