We grew up in the islands and know Nassau like the back of our hands.
We love Silk Cotton Cottage because it marries Old World charm with modern comforts.
We especially like the laid back tropical setting with the convenience of nearby beaches, shops, restaurants and attractions.
If we're not working, we're out in the boat snorkeling and fishing. If the sea's rough, we putter around the garden, grill and chill.
We have carved various unique spots out of the garden for relaxing and bird watching.
In season, when the mangoes are ripe, the beautiful bright red and green Bahama Parrots feast in the silk cotton trees
We get Red Starts, Buntings and Warblers in the cooler months and the garden's always alive with humming birds and thrashers.

This is a lovely cottage. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting New Providence. It is very cozy and safe, and meticulously taken care of by the owners. I certainly had everything I needed while staying there. It is at the end of a quiet cul de sac and nestled in the back of a beautiful old garden featuring exotic native trees and plants; very peaceful. At the same time, it is ideally located for walking to the beach or taking the bus in no time to downtown Nassau and Paradise Island and all of the amenities they have to offer, including easy excursions to the pristine Family Islands. Love the place, and you can’t beat the price. So much nicer and much more of an authentic experience than staying in a hotel, too.
My husband and I stayed at the cottage at the end of March through the first weekend in April. The accommodations were perfect with plenty of space and things that you would need to make your stay comfortable (e.g., toiletries, linens/towels, kitchen tools/equipment, books, television, information regarding local activities/restaurants ). There was even sunscreen, bug spray, coffee maker, cooler, a grill, and an outdoor shower. The air conditioner did a good job of cooling us off on hot and steamy days. The gardens around the main house were beautiful and attracted all sorts of beautiful birds. We enjoyed spending the evenings star gazing and listening to the sounds of nature by the light of the tiki torches. The cottage is within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. In addition, there is a nice local beach, seafood market, and craft/artisan market nearby. Bus transportation to downtown was easily accessible, and our hosts, Tina and Ian, were wonderful in offering us rides to pick up groceries and access various sites around the Island. They are fantastic people, and their warm and generous hospitality was what made our trip to the Bahamas a truly special and memorable one.
We really enjoyed our stay in Silk Cotton cottage, which was clean and very well equipped. We loved sitting in the garden with all the flowers and watching the birds as well as the parrots! The home is close to the bridge to Paradise Island and we went several times to Cabbage Beach. We had lunch at Curly's at Fish Fry and it was very good. We have used VRBO for several years and Tina and Ian were two of the best hosts we have met - very responsive to our needs and helpful and took us out on their boat on the week-end. We felt we had made new friends by the time we left.
Staying at the Silk Cotton Cottage was a very good decision that we made.
We went into thinking it would be another VRBO or AirBNB stay. We have good experiences with those companies and the places that we stay but it's not the primary reason we enjoy our holidays.
Tina and Ian made this experience very different. While we enjoyed Nassau and the islands, and the dolphins, what made our week in the Bahamas extraordinary was their company. We enjoyed going on a boat ride, and sitting in their garden learning more about the Bahamas that I would've ever garnered from a pamphlet or museum. Visiting with them gave us a personal and warm family feeling when we got back to their residence.
The cottage was clean and lovely. When we entered the wind was billowing the white curtains everywhere like a postcard. The bed was a Superking with great pillows and mattress. We had plenty of towels and extra amenities if we forgot ours. Upon arrival Tina gave us a ride to pick up our food where we enjoyed the lovely kitchen and outdoor grill area. The cottage is extremely peaceful, except for a random siren and dog, and we slept better than we have in months.
WE thought that is was good value for money.
I would say the cottage is best for two people for a relaxing island getaway. If you are not renting a car, the jitney stops are very close to the cottage and can get you easily around the island. The two bridges to Paradise Island are walkable as well.
I would highly recommend this cottage and Tina and Ian.
Silk Cotton Cottage was the perfect place for our week in Nassau. Tastefully decorated and clean, wonderful host family, central location, well-kept grounds. The kitchen had everything we needed. The outdoor shower was a nice touch. Tina and Ian gave us great tips on enjoying the island. We felt very well cared for.
My friend and I were looking for a quiet place to get away after defending our dissertations. We weren't looking for the Bahamas of frat boys, but simply for a place to land that would allow us to cook our own meals, make it to the beach every day, and rest for awhile. Tina and Ian's place delivered that! They were wonderful hosts, and I'd highly recommend renting from them. The cottage was lovely and they were wonderful hosts. Thanks so much!
We are a retired couple who opted to rent a cottage because we wanted the freedom to prepare our own meals and we ended up barbecuing every night! The ambiance of Silk Cotton Cottage lived up to it's prior reviews and we would like to go back again in two years' time. We will highly recommend it to all we know who show an interest in spending time in The Bahamas. We particularly enjoyed the weather, the proximity of Mantagu Beach and the open fish market there, as well as relaxing in the beautiful, peaceful cottage garden with all it's nooks and crannies. We got to know Nassau for the first time and Tina drove us over the bridge to Paradise Island. We also visited the Art Gallery, History Museum and the Bahamas National Trust just up the road. However, if it hadn't been for the kindness and hospitality of Tina and Ian going out of their way to help us along and predict our needs, we wouldn't have enjoyed our stay half as much. They were exceptional and by the end of the week we felt like extended family. This vacation really was just like going from home to home!
Just a short stroll to a beach, a park, a fort, frequent weekend festivals, bus stop, farmer's markets in winter and spring, restaurants and pubs Boat rentals, fishing charters and exciting excursions nearby.
