Overview

About the property

4 Double bedrooms, (4 single beds,) 3 bathrooms, 8 people.

This lovingly restored villa is the last house in the tiny village of Roo situated in the region of Ria de Noia y Muros. Its four large double bedrooms allow for fantastic views of the surrounding hills and mountains and a tempting glimpse of the nearby sea and pristine beaches. Its private garden has its own pool (10m x 5m) and plenty of 'chill out' areas ensuring absolute privacy for sun and siesta time. The Orange, manderine, pear, apple, peach, lemon and fig trees complete the countryside ambiance as the garden disappears into the forest. Its a place for quality family time, for relaxation, for getting away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This Spain hasn't changed in years, it remains unspoilt by the demands of the tourist industry. The beaches are pristine and spacious occupied only by the locals before and after their siestas. The nearest beach is a five minute drive from the house. Further excursions reveal a truly wonderful coastline adorned with beautiful beaches.

About Maria Moreno Lamas

We have always loved travel and especially the beach-life - we still harbor the dream of our own beach-side property!

Maria Moreno Lamas purchased this villa in 2005

Why Maria Moreno Lamas chose Galicia

Originally from London and unable to find a suitable and affordable renovation project in my homeland - I travelled to my partner's Spanish world in Galicia - here we checked out local properties - they were affordable and close to the wonderful beaches of the Ria de Muros y Noia - before we knew it we had a project on our hands!

What makes this villa unique

This house belonged to the village carpenter but had fallen into disrepair - it stands alone at the top of the hill that presides over the old village of Roo. Stunning vistas and absolute privacy ensure a holiday in tune with the wonderful natural surroundings - peace, tranquility, forests, rivers, beaches and siestas - not complicated!

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house is wonderful – we enjoyed everything here, especially the views and the pool (and the amazing September sunshine!) Your magazine was very helpful and interesting. We particularly loved the Pesqueria del Tambre, a lovely meal with great surroundings and an exciting bridge crossing! It's going to be hard work packing the car and leaving!

Luxurious villa with rustic charm & beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

Coming from the hustle and bustle of a busy city like Hanoi in Vietnam, the contrast couldn't have been more stark. And more welcome. The villa is located at the top of a hill overlooking the whole village with some amazing views and being at the edge of a forest, my wife and I felt ever so much closer to nature. It was the perfect place for us to completely relax and unwind. The villa is full of character with a great open-planned kitchen and living room downstairs and a luxurious bedroom with balcony and bathroom that make you feel like royalty. I loved that combination of luxury combined with the rustic stonework of the interior. The garden is dreamy with a good-sized swimming pool and grass beneath your feet (you don’t get grass like that in Vietnam!). And no better place to spend the evening having dinner than on the patio and taking in the stunning view before the sun sets. It’s quite a steep little walk up the hill to the villa which was quite a challenge on the bike to conquer (I always lost!). The surrounding area is fantastic for cycling with a rather delightful back road to the nearby town and, feeling more ambitious, a great ride over the impressive curved bridge connecting the village with the road to Noia. Noia is a good-sized town, rather picturesque too – one of my favourite-ever squares there. We had fabulous sunny weather so spent a good deal of our time at one of the nearby beaches. White sands, pristine clean though the sea was a little chilly. Only downside to our whole stay was when we had to leave. Thank you so much to our wonderful hosts Rupert and Maria for the holiday of a lifetime.

This house made our Easter Holidays

  • 5 of 5

For the simple joys of life - this house made our Easter Holidays - beautifully restored by Rupert & Maria - you can see all the love and attention that went into making this old house new again. The garden was like a fairytale - backing into the woods and to the beautiful old creek stream below. It's on top of the hill - so the views are great with easy access to the things modern life demands - but also easy access to amazing beaches. We loved it.

Perfect for a good old fashioned family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Casa Roo was bigger than we imagined in the photos but remained cute throughout. Our children loved the attic space and the garden and exploring in the woods. The locals were really friendly with the children - we got invited for drinks and given local produce! It was charming and the local scenery fantastic. Highly recommended to get away from modern life and remind the kids of the old days!

Owner's Response: I'm guessing (as review is anonymous) that this is Gina and her family? Thanks Gina - the locals loved showing the kids the birds! Muchas Gracias and hope to see you again!

Beautiful holiday in a beautiful house!

  • 5 of 5

Such beautiful holiday and house.

We chose Casa Roo as an escape from the madness of our normal lives, teenagers, exams, work and all the usual modern day life craziness. As soon as we got here we knew we could just switch off and stop. (after the hill climb with the car!) - It's a beautiful old stone house, on its own at the top of a hill that looks over the old village. It's beautifully renovated and the garden is like walking through some magical wardrobe into paradise, amazing scenery, lots of nature, great forest walks and streams. We loved it and even the teenagers chilled! nice towns nearby, incredible beaches and plenty going on in Santiago - a gorgeous old Spanish town. Highly recommended!

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house and a great location for seeing all the surrounding areas and beaches, especially in season. We were visiting off season and so did not have great weather, but was thrilled with the heat and the lovely fireplace, which we did need. It all added to the pleasure of the house. A lot of care and attention went into the property and we hope they can maintain the house with the care they obviously put into it originally. Would be lovely for a family, great open set up for dining and terrific huge attic room. Nicely done.

A lovely, lovely week, beautiful house, garden and views. We get the feeling that we have been amazingly lucky with the weather - 26 degrees all week!

Your book and website are extremely helpful - what a lovely and surprising part of Spain - Hope to return again.

Noia (10min drive) is a quaint old harbour town where one can enjoy the restaurants and bars and charming evening ambiance long into the night. The cobbled streets and the town square often host fiestas and concerts where every generation gets involved, the young and the old mixing seamlessly. A weekly market of local produce adds to its attraction. To the North of Roo is Muros (20mins) an old fishing town. Here, one can watch the sunset as the boats come in with their catches of the day and stock up on those BBQ necessities. For a longer day trip (30mins) one can visit the medieval city of Santiago de Compostella. Its stunning cathedral is its centrepiece and it is surrounded by cobbled streets, cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. Its vibrant busy atmosphere will make the next day back at the villa all the more relaxing. In the small town of Roo a short walk from the house you will find a couple of bars, supermarkets and restaurants offering traditional Galician food.
