About Lyle Anderson
Casa de Teca , where every day offers a new discovery, is jointly owned by Lyle and Ramona Anderson and Shawn and Brynne Lally, son-in-law and daughter. We, Lyle and Mona, live here 8 months each year; traveling back to the USA for the family holidays and gatherings during December - March. Shawn and Brynne, both teachers, spend part of their summers here. They are truly world travelers and will continue to be, but they found the charm of the casa irresistible, making the casa their home base of operations. Somehow, the casa and it's surroundings - the mountains, the ocean and the wilderness -create a sense of well-being, of belonging, Mona and I cannot capture anywhere else. Mona grew up living in the woods in Minnesota; she immediately identified with our surroundings. I grew up a city boy with little interest or time for nature and its nurturing - that is, until I came to Costa Rica. Originally, I came to satisfy Mona's long time dream to come to visit Costa Rica. Much to my surprise, riding on our way to our hotel, I turned to Mona and said, "I'm home." We bought Casa de Teca on our first trip and have never looked back - have never been sorry. We are delighted to welcome you to our home - to your experience. May your visit be one you will look back on with joy.
Lyle Anderson purchased this House in 2011
Why Lyle Anderson chose Cantón Buenos Aires
Mona and I weren't looking to buy on our first trip. Our intent was to see if we could discover the heartbeat of Costa Rica. We began our journey up in the La Fortuna/Arenal region. We had notitinerary, we wanted to move from place to place using the information and advice of "locals" we met along the way (By the way, that turned out to be a great way to travel and to learn). As we moved South, we became aware of a narrowing of the distance between the mountains and the sea. One of our favorites haunts in the US is the Oregon Coast, locked in between the mountains and the Pacific. As we drove South, the feeling we were somehow in a much warmer Oregon began to develop. By the time we got to Uvita, this feeling of "Deja Vu" was very strong. So strong that we found a realtor just to "show us around." Soon we found ourselves looking in Ojochal, a village where truly the mountains meet the sea. We looked at several homes, including the casa, then prepared to head back home. I can't get that teak house out of my mind," Mona said. "Funny you should say that," I replied. We went back; we told our kids, Brynne and her husband, Shawn, about it. They said, "we want in." We bought it and, frankly, can't imagine living anywhere else.
What makes this House unique
We stand behind our statement, "Every day is a new discovery." Sit on the front porch in a swing chair and become mesmerized by the constant changes of the ocean. Move to the porch off the back bedroom and watch howler or maybe white face monkeys moving through the corridor. Just a couple of days ago Mona saw the first spider monkey we have seen. We have a resident sloth, an anteater and a Jesus Christ lizard. Yes, these lizards do walk, actually run, on water. More than once, we have watched her/him run across our pool. Sit on the back deck with a cup of morning coffee and watch the sun rise over the mountains. Polish off your day with a swim in the pool - Shawn is 6'5'' so, admittedly, for him it is a 2 stroke pool. None-the-less... Just this summer, Shawn and Brynne installed our outdoor pool shower - with hot water! Oh yeah, Shawn and Brynne walk to Tortuga Beach almost every day. Now, we don't see these critters ever, day; sometimes the sunrise is buried in a shroud of fog, but even these times can be most interesting. Sometimes there is no ocean, but always there is a new discovery, an unforeseen change that challenges us to see things as they are, not as we thought they were. Finally, it's evening time and the warm glow of the casa permeates everything. A yawn and were off to bed just as the rain begins to fall, carrying us to dreamland and beyond. We have designed Casa de Teca to meet our needs for a casual life-style that includes meditation, exercise (just walking down to close the gate is good exercise), yoga and adventure.

We are so very fortunate to have these renters in our casa. They tread lightly, leaving everything as they found it. We enjoy a wonderful relationship with them and highly recommend you accept them immediately if they consider your property. Thank you very much for sharing your experience. See you next year! Our best regards.
Casa de teca
We stayed for 1 month in casa de teca and we had a great time.
The beautifull wooden house is very comfortable and has a great view over the ocean.
Every night At sunset the toucans gave a concert in the trees.
Someday we would love to come back.
I am so sorry for not sending you a reply for your wonderful review. Thank you so much for choosing our casa; and even better, for enjoying your stay. We look forward to serving you in the future.

Casa de Teca and its Birds
My wife and I had a good time in Ojochal and the casa. At times my wife found Ojochal on the hot and humid side but it cooled down in the night a little bit and so one could sleep. A little bit of rain here and there also helped as did the small pool. The casa with its two bedrooms and large veranda was easy to live in but a car is needed for shopping and other things. Nearby Uvita and Dominical provide many services. For exploring the surroundings an SUV with four-wheel drive is helpful. Even though the houses in Ojochal are quite widely spaced we felt at all times secure. This was important for us because we are both seniors.
We are interested in birds and nature in general and the casa with its garden had much to offer. We often heard but never really saw howler monkeys because they kept to the dense canopy of trees. However almost daily we were serenaded by Chestnut-mandibled Toucans which made quite a sight. Mealy Parrots and Red-lored Parrots were also common and a pair of Riverside Wren provided much entertainment. We even saw a stunning Slaty-backed Trogon. We put up a hummingbird feeder and several hummer species came including a stunning Blue-throated Goldentail.
Walking was great but only after rain because it supressed dust. However we discovered the nearby road to Play Tortuga which was pleasant to walk on and which together with the remote beach provided excellent birding. Among many other species we found colorful Scarlet Macaws, secretive Gray-necked Wood-rails and cute Olivaceous Piculets which are quire scarce.
We never had any problems with food or water and we quite often eat in small Costa Rican restaurants. A man came twice to Ojochal with fresh fish and shrimp and we had some outstanding meals of mahi-mahi, red snapper and tuna. This is not to be missed. However it would have been nice to have a small barbeque for out-of-door cooking.
In summary we can recommend Ojochal and Casa de Teca for a nice relaxing holiday.
Dear guests, we feel very fortunate to have hosted you at Casa de Teca. During your stay you were wonderful caretakers of the property. We are most delighted you enjoyed your stay. Additionally, we are very happy you took the time to share your views. We appreciate your sharing your desire for a barbeque. We will make certain a barbeque is available for this next season. You are always welcome at the casa!
Been There Twice!
My husband and I enjoyed our first stay at the Casa so much that we had to come again! The Casa has a wonderful location on a hill that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. You can sit on the veranda and enjoy the view and the sounds of the sea! Plus the sound of the birds and animals in the jungle surrounding the clearing on a hill where the home is located. The veranda has a nice roof, so you can sit there even if it's raining, or if the sun is shining and you want some shade. The swimming pool, while not large, is very relaxing--I loved floating on my back and gazing up at the sky through the branches of some trees.
The property has easy access to a highway that can take you to restaurants, beaches, jungles, and river tours through the jungle. On our second trip we visited Finca 6 an archaeological site of giant rock spheres, dating back to pre-Columbian times. Very fascinating!
It is a great place to rest, relax, and enjoy nature at it's best!
Gloria and Jon,
Thanks so much for taking the time to review your experience at the casa. Mona and i are very happy you found our casa such a wonderful place for relaxation. we know how very busy your lives are, so we doubly appreciate the tie you spent with us! Can't wait to see you "three-peat" review! 0ur regards, Lyle and Mona
I spent two weeks in this beautiful home and can't say enough good things about the experience. The pictures are exactly what you get and I highly recommend this Casa. The shopping, restaurants, soda's (wayside eateries), nearby beaches and friendly locals made for an exciting vacation. There are many nearby towns and activities. I don't speak Spanish but most people understand English (charades also work). I plan to visit again soon.
