Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bath, spacious rooms and porches, full kitchen, sleeps up to 6

A glorious secluded beach and the crystal clear Caribbean provide the backdrop for a dream vacation at The Haven in Cayman Kai. This lovely two bedroom, two bath sea lodge (which can sleep up to six) is located on the North Side of Grand Cayman away from the hustle and bustle of 7 Mile Beach. (Be sure to see our video.) A home that has consistently received 5 Star reviews in Home Away and VRBO. We look forward to sharing this peaceful, welcoming island experience that offers a quiet place to regenerate your spirit or to get closer to your loved ones!

You can cook your own meals in a fully equipped kitchen or dine at any of Cayman's wonderful restaurants. Swijjm with the Parrot Fish and snorkel through a shallow coral reef teeming with sea life. Relax and enjoy your favorite book on the inviting screened porch which overlooks the palm trees, the beach and the sea, or just feel the cool sea breezes as you share the moment with special people.

Aquatic Adventure: Grand Cayman has some of the world's great adventures for snorkeling and scuba diving. The crystal-clear waters are home to one of the widest varieties of tropical fish and aquatic life found anywhere on earth. If you love the water and sea life, you'll love the nearby reef teeming with new aquatic 'friends'.

Take a stroll on the beach: Wander the white sandy beaches and rugged coral shores, but be sure to bring your sunscreen because Cayman Kai is famous for its weather -- glorious sun and cool sea breezes.

The Haven is air conditioned throughout, but it's not often needed with the tropical breezes and the wonderful louvre doors in each bedroom and the living room that open to the seaside.

Visitors Comments: I wanted you to know how much we enjoyed staying at your sea lodge (The Haven at Cayman Kai). The sea lodge is so nice, and has all the things we needed to cook and relax.

Snorkeling right out in front of the sea lodge is a great way to get exercise and be entertained by the sea life every day.

In short, I just loved my time there and look forward to going again next February. Thanks for having a piece of paradise and for letting me use it.

My friends and I had a fabulous time at Cayman Kai! We loved the condo and spent hours on the porch enjoying the ocean view and breeze. We'll be back next January!

Gail - San Francisco, CA

I've been a guest at The Haven at Cayman Kai twice [and] I can really say. Nothing Compares To 'The Haven'. It has it's own unique and wonderful charm. The beach and ocean here is surreal. The beauty of the beach, water and sea life is a dream come true.

John Sorich - MN

Having The Haven to run back to during the day for lunches and a nap was very convenient. Having it to 'come home to' at the end of the day was 'priceless' ! Everything you need for a nice stay is in the condo, which is well-maintained and clean. The property manager is only a phone call away and can answer any questions and take care of any needs.

Nancy and Kent S.

We left went back for lunch to the restaurant Over The Edge and back to the beach. Great food and view. We will definitely go back. It was a fantastic time of year. Not many bugs very few at dusk. Loved the layout of the house with each bedroom and bath on the sides with the living and kitchen are in the middle. It allowed for more privacy.

Linda - San Diego

The Visitor's Comments listed above provide just a glimpse of the rave reviews the Haven has merited for the past 8 years. With a seamless transition to new ownership, we expect this tradition to continue!

About Fred and Mary Taylor

After the first time visiting Grand Cayman, we fell in love with the beauty and special culture of the North Side. We particularly treasure the peace and tranquility that exists at The Haven of Sea Lodge. We love waking up to the skittering sound of palm fronds and the surf from the ocean. We spend many mornings on the spacious screened-in porch, drinking coffee and enjoying the sensation of the soft ocean breezes wafting over the secluded beach with beautiful white sands and crystal clear aqua water. In the evening gorgeous sunsets and a sky full of stars can be enjoyed without having to travel anywhere. Inside The Haven, the furnishings are well-appointed and brightly colored and the amenities leave nothing to be desired.

The Haven was Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This house was in the perfect location for those wanting a mix of both quiet and solitude as well as lots of fun and great energy. The -practically private- beach was right in our backyard and the bar and restaurant at Rum Point was just a 10-15 minute walk away! We went to sleep with the cool ocean breeze and awoke with the sun. It was perfect. One thing to mention though, is that The Haven was a bit difficult for us to find at first. The house is part of a "complex" so to say, and on the street, it does not say The Haven at Cayman Kai. Instead, it says Sea Lodges at Cayman Kai. Look for that sign and once you park you'll find the house just fine! Another thing to mention is, be sure to get all your necessities (groceries, cash, liquor, etc.) when you're in Georgetown. There really isn't much once you get out to the house. But seeing as though we traveled into Georgetown so often during our stay, we never found this a problem. The house super spacious. The five of us never felt trapped or all over each other! There's so much more I can say about this place, but really, all you need to know is that I'd go back in a heartbeat!

The Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a better trip. This place is in the most ideal location, away from the business of 7 Mile Beach. We loved staying on the North side of the island, and being just a few steps from the ocean, which we had all to ourselves most times. There was so much sea life to enjoy right in our backyard ( octopus, squid, rays, all the colourful fish)! It is just a short walk to Rum point where we enjoyed the sunsets and snorkelling under the dock. There were four of us staying here and never felt that the place wasn't big enough. The large back porch makes the place feel just a little bit bigger! The house included everything we needed to cook our own meals, although we always made sure to pick up groceries on our way back from the day, as there wasn't too much you were able to get once at the house. The ocean breeze came through the screen windows perfectly and kept the place nice and cool all night. The Haven was such a beautiful location, if we end up back in Cayman, we would stay here with no hesitation.

The Haven is special!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Grand Cayman, and we are so glad we chose the Haven at Sea Lodges on Cayman Kai! It was truly a perfect spot. The condo was exactly what we hoped it would be - a quiet, lovely, well maintained "home away from home," just steps from the gorgeous water. It had everything we needed, but was not overdone - the beautiful front porch overlooking the ocean was our favorite spot for morning tea or even an afternoon nap! Cooling cross breezes kept us comfortable at all times. We were often the only ones on the beach and it never had more than a few people. Lounge chairs that stay on the beach and small tiki huts for shade are always available; grab a towel (provided by the owners) and you have all that you require. The snorkeling was great right at the shoreline or further out near the reef. If you have never snorkeled (we hadn't) it is easy to pick up quickly and well worth it to see the beauty that lies beneath the water. If you are looking for "adventure," we swam with the stingrays, snorkeled at Coral Gardens, and observed the many sea stars at Starfish Point. But you don't have to go any further than off your front steps to have a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We've already booked our trip to The Haven for next year!

A little piece of heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

Though my husband and our dear friend had been to Cayman before, this was my first visit, and it exceeded my wildest expectations. The experience was so wonderful that we've been home one day, and are already booking for next year. At The Haven, all you have to do is look out any window for a picturesque view of the crystal clear Caribbean Sea! It's cerulean and turquoise hues are breathtaking! Though the condo does not have AC(this is a deal breaker for some, we were fine), there are ceiling fans, and the sea breeze coming through the louvred windows and doors keep the place cool. The condo was absolutely perfect for the days that we wanted to just lounge in the living room, or on the patio, enjoying the ocean view. In the mornings we drank coffee on the patio and planned our day while listening to the ocean. If we got up early enough, the sunrise is unparalleled. Most evenings we enjoyed a home cooked meal on the patio then walked about 30 steps down to the beach to stare up at millions of stars. If a quiet location away from all the tourists is what you seek, then this is the place for you. Yes, there is sea grass. Yes, there are rocks, but both are easily avoided. The guys were pretty vigilant about keeping it off the beach. There is also excellent snorkeling, and abundant sea life; It really is the perfect location. Just a few minutes away from Rum Point, Kaibo and Starfish Point Beach. Nearby restaurants we patronized included: Kaibo, which has a casual bar and eatery downstairs, and reservation only service upstairs, and Over the Edge; both are right on the sea. There are others, but I can only speak to the places we visited. As for groceries and supplies: Chisholm's, a family owned grocery, is just up the road for convenience store shopping with top notch service and a huge Island smile. Hurley's is only a 15 minute drive, and has everything. Next door to Hurley's is a Liquor store, and on the other side, a pharmacy. We enjoyed spending our vacation away from all the tourist craziness that you'll find at seven mile. My husband said it was the Cayman that he remembered visiting thirty years ago. If any problems should arise, all you have to do is call the manager, Barbara, and she is right there to take care of it. As far as security, I've never felt safer. The grounds are monitored with security cameras, ambient lighting, and a safe in the master. We can't wait to return. Rent a car, and remember to drive on the left! =)

Nice Stay, but felt it could have used some updating.

  • 4 of 5

Location: Excellent

We were pretty much the only people on the beach until the last couple days of our stay! It is a bit rocky on that side of the island, but you can walk the beach all the way down to Rum Point with shoes on! Snorkeling was great as well, just need to get past the seaweed!

The Haven: Average

Basic 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo with screened in porches, however needed some updating. No AC, so when there is no wind blowing, it is hot. No outdoor shower. No updated windows/doors, so ants were everywhere. We noticed them immediately in the kitchen when we walked in, bathroom and bedroom. We did not eat in the condo at all, or bring back any food. We pulled the bed and pillows away from the wall to prevent ants biting us during the night. Overall it was a nice condo that included all the appliances necessary to have a nice stay. There were fresh towels and linens, cooking utensils and extensive book collection.

Owner's Response: The Sea Lodges are regularly teated for insects and since this review we have taken extra precautions to ensure they will not be found at The Haven. The Haven now has AC in both bedrooms.

Lovely, peaceful hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place to stay if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of 7 mile beach, but still be able to access it should you want to sometimes. You will need a rental car in order to get around - much more economical than trying to get taxis/transportation every day. Driving on the left side of the road took only a few trips to acclimate and the island is a breeze to get around. If you like to dive, there are spots nearby on the East End of the island, or you can go to 7 mile beach for a wider variety of dive shops - there are over 300 dive spots around the island. We went diving with Deep Blue Divers and had a terrific experience with them - it is a smaller shop and is run with a personal touch.

As for The Haven, it is a charming, wonderful place to stay - you have the convenience of a fridge, toaster oven, microwave and stove/oven if you want to save some money. Restaurants on the island are plentiful, but pricey as compared to the US (largely due to the exchange rate). The Haven has both a front and back screened in porch - the porch to the rear has a perfect line of sight to the ocean, and is an amazing place to breakfast or enjoy a meal as you watch the sun set. The two porches add space, making The Haven seem even larger than it is. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms separated by the kitchen/dinette area and the living room area. The beach is literally steps away from The Haven - the beach is quiet. You can snorkel out to the reef and drift down to Rum Point. There is access to water sports at Rum Point and at 7 Mile Beach. One word of caution: if you are "high maintenance" and desire a 5 star hotel experience, this is not the place for you. There is no air conditioning at The Haven - this was only an issue on a couple days of our stay during the late afternoon. Otherwise, the sea breezes made The Haven very comfortable. There are several ceiling and floor fans available to use throughout the day and night in The Haven. It is a seaside bungalow in every sense of the word. The Haven has a few quirks, but nothing that made a big difference in our ability to have a terrific stay. We loved it and would return again in a heartbeat! The owners are very helpful and provide information re: local restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations - they were a pleasure to work with and always got back to us very quickly by email.
