We are originally from the Ottawa area but moved to Toronto in the late 90s to pursue careers. We now have a 7 and a 9 year old.
Abby purchased this cottage in 2013
We instantly fell in love with this cottage, nicknamed 'North Oak.' It had everything we were looking for and we knew it was the perfect retreat for our family. It was well loved by the same family for more than 40 years. Their children and grandchildren had grown up there. We want the same for our children. Whenever we are there we instantly relax and find it very difficult to return to the city.
The cottage is bright, inviting and very tasteful with high ceilings, floor to ceiling fireplaces and the perfect mix of rustic charm and convenience. It is very private and the views from the decks are breathtaking any time of year. In the summer the raised, southwest facing property means there is sun almost all day long, in winter you can watch the skidoos whip across the lake, and if a fall storm rages outside you can sit back and watch in comfort (knowing that there is a propane generator helps too). It is easily accessible year round (roads are plowed). The waterfront is shallow entry which gives us peace of mind with our kids. Plus Muskoka has everything you could ask for in terms of amenities and activities.
From the minute we pulled into the driveway, we knew this was going to be special. And it was. Abby was so easy to work with and always responded to emails and questions very quickly. The cottage accommodated the eight adults in our group very well. Beds were very very comfortable, surrounding was very peaceful, gorgeous open kitchen with all we needed to cook our own meals. We even cooked on the barbecue one night. It rained throughout our stay but it did not tamper our weekend. We sat around the georgeous wood fireplace in the living room and drank wine, played games and chatted until late at night. We had a wonderful time with memories to share forever! We would definitely come back again in the future.
Thank you so much Abby!
Lucille and the girls!!
Great cottage and spectacular view during the fall months with all the changing colours. House was spacious and the layout made for great place to spend time with others.
What's a beautiful place! If you are reading my review, I want to share with you that north oak is worth every penny! The lake is so beautiful that we did not want to leave. Cottage itself is very clean , home like feeling, and has everything you can think about. From cooking wear to water toys. Owner is very cool to answer all the questions. Thank you ,Abby and North Oak, for this amazing stay.
The cottage was exactly what we hoped for and then some. We really loved the location and views from the deck and dock. Beautiful sunsets were the norm. The listing was completely accurate and everything was exactly as described. We spent a lot of time on the dock and enjoyed using the kayaks and other water toys. The cottage itself was immaculate within amazing kitchen and lots of space. We honestly couldn't have asked for any better of a place. We will definitely be back again!
Overall this property is fantastic - we had 8 adults and 2 small children staying and the cottage easily accommodated us. The common areas inside are quite large. The outside decks are fabulous, different levels to enjoy and all with spectacular views of the water and the sunsets. We appreciated that there were different places to gather depending on the time of day.
We also really liked to be able to use the kayaks and rowboat, and to fish off the dock. The swim ladder made entering and getting out of the lake very easy, even with a 2 year old.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped, with everything you could possible think of to make a gourmet meal.
Our contact Abby was very responsive and answered all of our questions promptly both before and during our stay.
We would highly recommend this property.
This cottage is on a beautiful lake. It's on a point so you get a variety of directions on the deck. It was well stocked with supplies and we had access to all the outdoor water equipment. We did loose power and the generator didn't come on right away but Abby was great on getting that resolved ASAP. The only thing would be the screens have a few holes so you tend to get some bugs and mosquitos. Also a suggestion would be a screen in the master bedroom because otherwise there is no window or way to get airflow in that room. Overall though it was great and would go back!
Three Mile Lake provides a perfect tranquil setting abounding with wildlife and beautiful scenery, but close to all amenities (restaurants, shopping, cinemas, museums, boat tours, etc.) in Bracebridge, Rosseau, and Huntsville. Arrowhead Provincial Park is just 30 minutes away and features snowshoeing, snow tubing and a 1.1 km. ice trail through the woods. Hidden Valley Highlands Ski area is great place to learn to ski (and never too busy). There are steamship tours and a drive-in theater in Gravenhurst and many other activities to enjoy year round: swimming, boating, fishing, horseback riding, golfing, ice fishing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing. Or just relax on the dock and watch the sun set!
