About Anna Palumbo

We purchased this property a couple years ago and went to work transforming it into the type of vacation rental that WE would want to stay in. Every aspect of the vacation experience was taking into account when building it. Both Darryl and I have been raised in the Comox Valley and we have extensive knowledge of the local area, from the best local eateries and music venues to check out, to the ideal spots for picnics and walks, to fishing adventures and everything in between. It has been a constantly evolving labour of love for us and we hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we enjoy making it happen!

Why Anna Palumbo chose Comox Valley

This property has been designed and built with vacation rentals in mind. Inspired by the view, we strive to make the most of what the property has to offer and love to provide our guests with the little extras that make a stay special!

What makes this studio unique

Great location, great ambiance, great hosts!

Wonderfully picturesque and so quiet

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very sweet, the property nicely situated. Minutes out of town, steps away from a great pub and a mini Mart, many artists close around the place. The sea is also steps away, the hammock is wonderful.

Great location! Everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I stayed 10 nights in the studio with our Yorkie. It was so nice to be able to include our dog! The perfect vacation filled with outdoor activities and we found the entire area very dog friendly. The studio had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, right down to Saran wrap in the kitchen, lots of TP, laundry soap for the washer and dryer which came in handy! The entire unit was extremely clean! We could see the owners take pride in their business. We met the owners as they came by to quality inspect the cleaners work on the unit next to us. They were very friendly and helpful at the same time respectful of our privacy. We took out the kayaks several times, just put them in the water right across the road. I have never seen more beautiful sunsets in my life. Bird watching from our patio was amazing. So much to do in the area, our favourite sandy beach location was Saratoga beach (dog friendly). Comox lake only a 10 min drive away, we rented paddle boards at the campground beach. Cumberland Brewery is a great place to have a beer on a hot day. I could go on and on. Honestly not much of a restaurant scene or nightlife in the area (in my opinion) However we enjoyed bbqing on our patio everyday. Don't miss the opportunity to stay at Royston retreat. We will be back!

Close to Amenities but Dirty

  • 2 of 5

When we arrived we were greeted by dead bugs on the dishes, in the kitchen cabinets and all over in the bathroom. There were spiders and cobwebs everywhere as well as mold growing in the corners in the bathroom. After saying something to the owner we were told that we were the first to stay that year and they didn't get the chance to clean. We booked early this year so they had ample opportunity to get the place properly cleaned. They also said don't mind the bugs that the area has a lot of bugs. We we knew that but the amount of dead bugs was a clear sign that they had been there for many weeks or months. Not sure what the issue was; previous reviews were great and said the place was clean! Never staying here again.

Owner's Response: Hi Lindsay, I'm sorry you were left with such a negative impression of Royston Retreat. To clarify for others, I did respond immediately to your email regarding the cleanliness of the Studio and offered to come by the next day and reclean it. You agreed and I did come by and explained that we had just trained a new cleaner and agreed the space wasn't up to our usual clean standard. You had already cleaned away the bugs so I then scrubbed the dishwasher to a sparkling condition and gave you a bottle of local wine. You seemed pleased at how this was addressed and I didn't hear further from you so I'm honestly quite surprised that you were still unhappy. And to clarify again- No, it hadn't been empty for months or even weeks, it had in fact been cleaned twice in the past week. I was actually the one to be in the suite last and took full responsibilty for the place not being up to snuff. I take pride in my business and if there's a problem, I deal with it. Complaints are important because it gives me feedback. I heard your criticism and actually went about hiring a different cleaner after that. So thank you for speaking up and shedding light on this so I can offer guests a better experience. Have a great rest of your summer. Anna, Owner

Just Perfect for the two of us

  • 4 of 5

September 12-15. We had a wonderful time and would love to come back. The property was very nice and clean inside and outside. The patio was lovely and nice to sit outside for our breakfast and dinner. The kitchen was nice, but we wished it had a microwave oven. The living room was very comfortable, but wish there was cable to watch the news. The bed was nice and comfortable. I appreciate the soft towels in the bathroom. The whole layout, decor and all the small touches made a difference.

This oceanside neighbourhood is a bird sanctuary with birds from all over flocking to its shores during the cooler months. The weather in this bay is often sunnier than inland as the clouds like to stick to the mountains and is sheltered from direct winds.

There are many picnic areas and benches to enjoy the scenery as well as a nearby kayak launch point. The north end of the road is home to the Royston Shipwrecks. Our property faces south east to the Comox Harbour.

The Comox Valley is rich in recreation activities and the arts. Pretty much anything you can dream up is available to you!

A couple of our loved local spots are:

The Goose Spit, Nymph Falls, Mt. Washington, Miracle Beach, Hornby and Quadra Islands, The Water Parks (Cumberland Park and Courtenay Lewis Centre)

Our favorite places to shop and eat are:

Waverley Hotel (live music and food), Atlas Cafe, Locals Restaurant, Cumberland Village and 5th St (for shopping), The White Whale Pub, The Broken Spoke, Gladstone Brewery, The Cumberland Brewing Company, Darkside Chocolates, The Taco Bus at the Comox Marina, The Farmer's Market (Saturdays @ the Fair Grounds)
