About the property

2br/1ba + sleeping porch at Brooks Lake

2 BR/1 BA + enclosed bunk room/sun porch.....Original cabin built by the Scandinavian Tiehacks in the early 1940's during the timber/logging operations for the early railroads. It is one of the few in the area with indoor plumbing and electricity (the original outhouse is still outside). It has been updated with modern conveniences and all the comforts of home. The kitchen still has the original cast iron/wood cookstove (along with a newer gas stove for your convenience). The river rock fireplace in the center of the cabin was built with local materials and even has a piece of petrified wood. The large deck is perfect for grilling fresh caught trout in the stream that runs along the side of the cabin or 2 miles up the road in Brooks Lake. There are 2 queen bedrooms, a sun porch with 2 twins and a double sleeper sofa in the den to accommodate up to 8. Enjoy wildlife sightings - not a day goes by that we don't see moose, elk, deer or a bear. Enjoy s'mores around the campfire by the stream (but make sure to douse it with buckets of water before retiring for the evening). The cabin is located inside the Shoshone National Forest (the nation's 1st national forest) so grab your trail maps and explore the hundreds of miles of trails by foot, XC skis, snowshoe, atv, snowmobile or auto. Always carry your fishing rod/tackle when you can as there are hundreds of hidden mountain lakes just waiting for you to wet your hook. Firewood is stacked for your use (try your hand at rustic living by splitting more to replace what you use.....many thanks!) This cabin is only available a few weeks each year as allowed by the National Forest Regulations, so inquire early and be one of the select few to enjoy it!!

**Check out is at 10am SHARP. Guests remaining after that will be charged for an additional night which will be withheld from the refundable $1,000.00 security deposit, with the balance returned to the guest post-stay pending departure inspection by management.

About Ree Beavers

We are an adventure loving family from Georgia who fell in love with the great state of Wyoming in 2006. After repeated trips out each year we stumbled upon this little gem tucked away in the Shoshone National Forest. We vacationed here for a few years and fell in love with the town of Dubois. We relocated from Georgia in May 2015 so that we can enjoy the beauty of the area year round. We hope you enjoy the rest and relaxation as much as we do! If so, I'd be happy to help you find your own little slice of Heaven: Ree Beavers, owner/broker, Wind River Property Group, LLC. 307.455.4100 or cell, 678.300.5876

Why Ree Beavers chose Dubois

This cabin is so secluded. The peace and quiet is perfect for those wanting to get away from it all - to forget about the cares of the world for the days that you are here. I like to grab my groceries in Jackson (or Lander if flying in by way of Denver) and then stay for the week without leaving :) However, the cabin is perfectly located for day trips to Jackson, Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Park. It is also only 20 miles from the quaint western town of Dubois (voted one of the best towns to raise a family). The Friday night rodeo is a must during the summer months and the petroglyphs carved into the cliffs/boulders just east of town by the Sheep Eater Indians thousands of years ago makes for a fun day of exploration by kids and history buffs alike. Located right at the edge of the Wind River Indian Reservation a casino is a local attraction for those who think they have a little luck :)

What makes this cabin unique

Original historic cabin located on a trout stream in the middle of the Shoshone National Forest (very few cabins or homes are located inside the National Forest). The cabin has authentic western charm (not a shiny, new 'kit' log home) but with the modern conveniences of DirecTV, unlimited local/long distance phone service, a booster for Verizon cell phone users and WiFi for those that have to do a little work while hibernating. Oh, and let's not forget the stars - with no light polution you can see the milkyway and stars so clearly. Doesn't get much better than this!

Mountain views and many memories

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Bearitage! The cabin was great for our family of five. The kids enjoyed sleeping and hanging out in the sun room. Fishing in the Brooks Lake Creek was one of the highlights of our stay. We liked wading upstream and casting our flies. The kids loved playing in the river and catching fish. We enjoyed cooking on the grill and over the open fire and eating supper outside on the porch. Each morning it was too chilly to eat breakfast outside so we ate in the family room and watched for animals. One morning, we saw a mother deer and her two fawns. Another morning, we saw 4 deer on the driveway. We also saw a deer right outside the bathroom window. In the evening, we enjoyed listening to the sounds of the river and being able to stay connected to the "outside" world because of the Verizon Booster.

A few other activities in the area that we enjoyed included:

Eating at the Cowboy Cafe in DuBois (be sure to have the pie)

Going to the Friday night rodeo

Riding UTVs in the Shoshone National Forest

Driving to the Togowotee Pass looking for animals (saw a grizzly bear & moose)

Fishing the Wind River along the highway

Eating fresh caught trout cooked on the grill

Taking in the views from the Scenic Overlook in DuBois

Shopping in DuBois

Enjoying the beautiful mountain views

There are so many other fun things to do in the area, such as heading to Yellowstone or the Tetons, but we chose to stay close to the cabin since in previous years, we have been to these places.

The cool morning and day time temps in the mountains were refreshing compared to the Summer heat and humidity in Iowa. We hated to leave the cabin and the DuBois area. Each of our kids asked when we will be able to go back as we drove back home. We made many wonderful family memories and hope to return.

Owner's Response: WOW, what a wonderful review! Sounds like you had a well-rounded and perfect trip. You experienced all of the sites and sounds and eateries we enjoy. The cabin has been our haven and your family time sounds just like our first trips out. It's my children's favorite place! They begged to go back as soon as we'd leave. You are welcome any time and repeat guests enjoy our friends and family discount:) Perhaps you might consider a winter snowmobiling/hibernation adventure trip???? Hope to see you soon, Ree Beavers/owner

Our Wyoming Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 7 yr. old son and I all had a wonderful time during our stay at Bearitage. We were able to recharge our personal batteries and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Wyoming. The cabin was well appointed and was a nature's paradise. We watched Moose and Mule Deer from the cabin along with many birds and Ground Squirrels. We spent some entire days at the cabin but also found it very convenient for taking day trips to Dubois, Thermopolis, Jackson, Yellowstone and the Tetons.

We would highly recommend this cabin to all ages!

Lovely Cabin off the beaten path!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin and it’s location are just amazing! I loved the sun porch, (which is where I slept) with the windows cracked open the night sounds and sweet air was oh so pleasant.

Laying in bed and being able to see the night sky filled with so many stars was inspiring.

Loved seeing the elk, deer and the mama moose with her babies, from the comfort of the cabin.

The cabin was clean, comfortable and cozy!

The owners are awesome people and they were very, very accommodating.

Owner's Response: Deb, It's nice when guests become friends which is what you! Receiving early morning pics of the moose and other wildlife you see let's us know you are enjoying the cabin as much as we do. Your daily jaunts to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park are easy from the cabin - great location - and I'm glad it can be your haven for relaxation and quiet. Happy Trails, the Beavers:)

Picture Perfect and Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Our Montana reservations had to be changed at the last minute due to the fires that were going on there. Fortunately we were able to stay here instead. WOW....this is one beautifully restored cabin deep in the Shoshone National Forest. If we had to get snowed in......this was the place to have it complaining.......everything we needed was right here. The beds were SOOO comfortable, and there were so many books, games and movies to choose from that there was no reason to be bored. The stone fireplace is gorgeous(and warm), and we enjoyed seeing Murphy the resident moose. We also enjoyed the fishing there in the stream as well as the lake up the road. The surrounding area is absolutely breathtaking. Ree was available to answer any question we had and made us feel like family. My only regret is that we live too far away to be able to make this an annual vacation spot.

Batteries recharged!!!

We picked this cabin for it's access to Brooks Lake, a childhood favorite of my husband's and for it's peaceful setting (we live in busy Southern California and wanted something completely different). We were not disappointed. The cabin is well stocked, near a peaceful creek, with easy access to the lake for fishing. Our kids ages 4 and 8 loved every minute of our stay and our son cried on our last night there saying he didn't want to leave. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Nicole, I'm so glad you chose our cabin for your trip to Wyoming. It's such a special place to our family and we understand why the area is special to your husband and now your whole family. The video clip you sent of your son on the day of departure telling me he loved the cabin is a favorite of mine! Thank you so much for that:) We look forward to your return trip - maybe you'll want to consider the adventure of a winter snowmobile trip when the boys are a bit older. Beautiful cabin, beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience on our trip to Dubois. The cabin was nice and cozy and the view was simply amazing, immediately surrounding the cabin all the way into town. It took forever to make it into Dubois because we kept stopping on the side of the road to take pictures! We made a great decision choosing this cabin and location as our destination point in Wyoming. The drive to Yellowstone and downtown Jackson was equally beautiful and only took a little over an hour, well worth the drive. The agent that assisted us in booking this cabin was more than helpful. She answered any question we had and gave information about the surrounding area that we would have had no idea to ask. You can't go wrong with using Wind River Property Group as your agent for booking a trip to the Dubois/Jackson area.

Owner's Response: We manage many cabins in the area and this is our family's personal cabin. We are thrilled when guests love the cabin as much as we do! We stumbled upon it one day in July 2011 and bought it the same day because of the bull moose that walked down the center of the creek just steps from the cabin. The surrounding views, as you noticed, are stunning and therapeutic. We hope that you'll visit again (returning guests receive a discount). Perhaps you'll want to consider the adventure of a winter snowmobile trip:) Happy Trails, Ree Beavers/Wind River Property Group, LLC
