About Dorothy Gehgan-heim

I am retired from stage and television as an actress and worked for over 20 yrs as an interior designer. I have lived in many parts of US. I have lived here on the Key Peninsula since 2003. The barn and guest cabin living quarters was built in 2008. We wanted family and friends to have a special place to stay right here.

Dorothy Gehgan-heim purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Dorothy Gehgan-heim chose Longbranch

We moved from a beautiful waterfront home located on the Lynnhaven River and Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. We wanted to be on water again with views of the mountains and Puget Sound. This property had all we were hoping to get with wonderful NW woods as well. Close enough to three cities, Seattle, Olympia and Tacoma, yet out of the crowd for peace and relaxation. Gig Harbor is a beautiful town and has all we need just 20 minutes away. Key Center has enough to fill in the basics only 11 minutes away.We still have easy access to three cities by car or ferry and the Sea/Tac airport for any longer distance travel.

What makes this cabin unique

The world is a hectic and stressful place for many people much of the time. We have a spot that offers a real get away to no stress for total relaxation in a beautiful natural setting. Just relax and take in nature at it's best here in Western WA. The true Pacific NW of old growth forests, water and mountain views. Magnificent sunrises and golden sunsets. There are many ways to enjoy the life here on the South Sound. There are long stretches of beaches to explore and National and State Parks to enjoy. You can do many activities outdoors and explore small towns around the Sound, take a ferry to several different Islands and Canada. Within a two hr. drive you can be at the Pacific beaches. Visit Mt. Rainier NP or Olympic NP, Hoh Rain Forest, Crescent Lake, the San Juan Islands or Cape Flattery. We are very close to Hood Canal, Harstene Is. and several local wineries. The Glass Museum in Tacoma with the Dale Chihully bridge is special, a must do where you can actually watch works of glass art being made. Point Defiance offers a wonderful Zoo and dining at Anthony's. Gig Harbor is our little gem of a town.

If not day tripping, the very best is to stay put right here and enjoy all the relaxation and beautiful location, maybe go kayaking, or for a walk or bike ride. After a lovely day fall asleep to the sounds of nature.

Charming, unique, and peaceful...

  • 5 of 5

The Blackbeary Cabin, complete with delicious blackberries to nibble on in the surrounding acreage, is charming and unique- from owner Dorothy’s eclectic antique and decor collection, to its location on 10 lovely wooded acres. Sitting on the second level deck truly feels like lounging in a treehouse. Dorothy is a helpful and friendly hostess- one of those humans who becomes a friend by the first or second conversation. We look forward to the time we can return. (PS- Our two pups were also welcome and enjoyed a few blackberries themselves!) Kim and Pete- Eugene, OR

Magical cabin surrounded by trees and close to water. Simply lovely.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin of dreams. Windows are huge and it’s airy inside and spacious, yet feels cozy. Cabin filled with antiques and lovely things. Everything feels loved and well thought out. Location is private and quiet. Best of all, our host Dorothy is absolutely wonderful; a very special person. This has been a delightful stay and just what we hoped for and more. Thank you!

Great Escape!

  • 4 of 5

Really wanted to give this 4.5 stars!

Sweet little cabin with everything you need for a weekend (or longer) escape.

Attention to detail, warm welcome, and responsive host. We didn't miss the lack of WiFi at all and there are plenty of games and books to keep everyone occupied. We were there on an uncommonly hot weekend and the cabin does heat up, but the cool Washington evenings cooled things down nicely. Thanks! We will recommend this to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your thoughts and lovely review. Due to the temperatures rising for a few of our summer days we do have a commercial grade fan and there is a ceiling fan. Very hot temperatures are not the norm here, number of days during the summer that go into 90's are few and far between. AC is rarely needed in the woods or near the water. It normally cools down several degrees in the night, as much as 10-15 degrees. Blankets are usually needed and are also provided. So if your stay happens to fall during the higher temperatures in weather we do the best we can to help you to be comfortable. Most visitors are out and about during the heat of the day doing and seeing the areas sites. There are Parks with swimming beaches close by. The water in the Sound is always refreshingly cool.(Cold)... Thanks

Quiet and oh so cute!

  • 4 of 5

What a cute little place! We loved sitting out on the deck reading, watching the birds, and eating our meals. Our weekend was spent at both of the local parks just kicking around. There is no TV, so we brought a DVD player and watched movies on that. The record player was fun and we played lots of tunes on it! There are lots of games, and we brought a few of our own.The owner Dorothy is very nice! If you are looking for quiet and relaxing this is the place for you!

Private and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to spend a quick getaway with family. We felt comfortable and welcome perched in the spacious Camp Blackbeary. Dorothy was a delightful hostess, offering anything we might need, from children's books (for the 3 year old) to ideas for the best beaches. Thank you.
