Overview

About the property

Casa Cortile is like an amazing suite in 5 star hotel.

This is the most romantic rental property in Merida Centro. Please consider Casa Cortile for your honeymoon, anniversary or any other very special occasion, or turn your next vacation into a special occasion with a stay in this amazing home.

Two bedrooms, one and a half baths, a heated pool and a lovely roof top sun terrace are only the beginning. Even before you open the door, the block of homes which Casa Cortile shares is the most beautiful in Merida. The facades are classically Colonial and flaunt the beauty of Merida's glory days.

It was from homes such as this that the henequen barons of the 19th century accumulated enough wealth to make Merida, per capita, the richest city in the world.

Walking through the front door is like stepping back in time to a place of beauty and architectural details you would never find in a modern house. Yet Casa Cortile is also completely modern and comfortable to 21st century standards.

Both bedrooms are amazing, but the master suite at the rear of the pool is simply stunning. The nighttime view from this bedroom to the pool will make you pinch yourself to remember you are in Merida, only a two hour flight from Houston, Texas! Please note that currently only the first bedroom has air conditioning.

The outdoor living room/dining room/ kitchenette is placed at the opposite end of the pool and garden and shares the beautiful view.

This isn't the rental home for gourmet chefs who wish to cook in every evening, but is perfect for romantic travelers who want luxury, privacy and all the amenities of the best of hotel suites.

The kitchenette is complete with stove top, sink, refrigerator, dishware, cookware, etc. and is perfect for breakfasts, lunches or snacks.

The pool is a rarity in Merida in that it is heater with a gas heater.....great for cool winter evenings.

The feature most coveted by guests in Merida are the lovely roof top terraces which catch the evening breezes and are a perfect spot for a cocktail while star gazing. The one here is also extremely private and overlooks the pool and garden.

All in all, there isn't a better rental choice in Merida. You will love the location, in the heart of the Centro Historico, the design, the furniture, the garden and all the amenities.

Everything it claimed to be and more!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful house. Great neighborhood, close walk to great sites (Plaza Grande, Cathedral, etc.), and many great restaurants, shopping, and very close to other historic sites in Centro.

The kitchen is small, but it works great for the amount of cooking anybody would really need to do (breakfast, lunch). With the proximity to many fine restaurants with amazingly low prices, there is little need to prepare dinners!

The rooftop deck is an amazing space to enjoy the sun or just sit in the evening and gaze at the stars.

We were met at the property by Carlos, and he explained everything to us and was extremely helpful! The booklet left on the dining table gave us all the information we needed for an enjoyable stay.

Our only regret was how short the stay was and how quickly time flew by.

If you are looking for an authentic experience staying in a Spanish Colonial house in the Centro Historico, this is your place!

Thanks for a beautiful experience!

Owner's Response: And we thank you for being such great guests! If your trip was too short, we hope that you will be back soon. Merida has too much to offer to be able to enjoy it all in only a few days!

Lovely and magical space!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this rental tremendously and would go back in a heartbeat. All the previous reviews are so true. Be advised if you travel in winter, though, that the pool needs 36 hours to heat. We wished we'd known this beforehand but would still highly recommend this site. It's truly transformative!

Owner's Response: The pool actually needs about 12 hours to heat normally, but your visit unfortunately corresponded to our coldest few nights of the year! Since the gas to heat the pool is charged separately, we always ask in advance if the renters will want it to be heated so that the heater can be started before their arrival. Most guests do not choose this option, however, and then there is a delay if they decide later to have it heated. We're so happy that you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to your speedy return!

WOW! Amazing experience and perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at this property for 4 nights. What a great experience! The location of this property could not be any better. You are close to everything that Merida has to offer. The team at Merida Rentals is top notch. They were responsive and thought of every detail

- The House: The house allows you to completely unwind in a very secluded space. When you first walk in you will be amazed at the size of this place. The ceilings are huge and impressive. The first bedroom has plenty of space for two people with a small half bath in the main entry room. The outdoor space with dining, kitchen, and living is really all you need to relax. The kitchen was way more than enough for the two of us. The only thing it doesn't have is a oven. We had no desire to cook as there is so many amazing places to eat at literally out your door. The pool was where we hung out the most. Put some music on, make a drink, and hop in the pool. Off the pool is the main bedroom which couldn't be more perfect and the bathroom was amazing as well. Above the master bedroom is a sun deck and sink. We got some great sun up there and then ran back down the stairs to the pool to cool down. So great. You will love this place.

Things to do: Everything is within walking distance from the house. We never got a cab to go anywhere. We walked all over the city. Places to eat are Olivia, Mercado 60 which is a cool hip outdoor spot with lots of vendors, go to Casa la Canda hotel for a cocktail, Apoala, Rosa Sur 32, La Casa De Frida around the corner from the house is great, Hotel La Misión de Fray Diego is great food and atmosphere and is right around the corner as well.

Tour Guide: Alex from Destino Merida is so great. We did two tours. One to Celestun to see the Flamingos and eat lunch on the beach. The other he brought us to is Chichen Itza, Izamel, and a swimming hole. I told him no touristy spots. He brought us to Chichen Itza before any tour buses arrived, had the swimming hole to ourselves, and Izamel was just incredible. He is not your normal tour guide that is trying to upsell you and getting kick backs from places he brings you. www.destinomeridatours.com, info@destinomeridatours.com small husband and wife team.

As you can see we enjoyed our stay so much. We will be back soon.

A month of joy

  • 5 of 5

I traveled as an older single woman and spent a month of heaven in this home. It was elegant, well furbished, well stocked, easy to use, close to everything, safe, and beautiful. Close to the daily festivities, grocery stores, and the gym. The staff attended to my every need. I would recommend it to everyone, I was sad to leave it.

Truly excellent

  • 5 of 5

Steven G., the other review, is correct in all aspects of his review.

It is indeed better than the photos. A lovely place to stay, very convenient to the center of Merida at Plaza Grande, or around the corner and two blocks away is Mercado Santiago, for all your food shopping needs, as well as having several good little restaurants.

This was my third visit to Merida. I stayed at Casa Cortile for one month and am certainly looking forward to staying there again. Leann (rental agent) and Carlos (property manager) were both very helpful and responsive to any issues that popped up.

Despite being on a street in the center of town, Casa Cortile is very quiet once inside. A little oasis in Centro Merida. The pool, by the way, is heated, a great plus for avoiding that initial shock.

The kitchen, as Leann told me beforehand, is not for gourmet cooks - there is no oven, but there is a three burner range-top and over the course of the month I cooked lunches and dinners there without problem.

Merida itself is an interesting place, with several museums, quite a few galleries, and music going on in one of the parks every evening. It is also near (an easy day trip) a good many spectacular Mayan ruins as well as Celestun, the Biosphere Reserve (thousands of wild flamingos, birds, etc.), or the "Yellow City" of Izamal. so there is no shortage of things to do in and around Merida.
