Secluded single family home on 40 heavily wooded acres...yet only 10-min from the scenic North Shore and only 20-min to downtown Duluth! The starry nights are spectacular away from the city lights and the sights & sounds of wildlife are everywhere.
Our single level 30' x 40' guest home (built in '06) has an open floor plan. The great room measures 18' x 30' and has a spacious kitchen and dining area on one side with the living room/TV viewing area on the other. The two bedrooms are located at the front of the house...one larger room has a queen bed and the other a double along with a loft directly overhead... which is ideal for two children (non-adults). The loft has a comfortable queen mattress made up into a complete bed. The back of the house has a fairly large bathroom which doubles as the utility room. The washer and dryer are located here, which guests are welcome to use. Laundry detergent & dryer sheets are provided.
A fully functional wood burning stove is centrally located in the great room. Guests are welcome to use it...my wife & I heated this home for 6-years almost exclusively with wood. Firewood is provided at no charge. As a back-up, there are individual electric wall heaters (with individual thermostats) in each room.
Interaction with Guests
My wife & I are in the midst of finishing our retirement home which is located in the middle of our 40-acres, so we are only a 5-minute walk up the driveway should guests have questions or need our assistance in anyway.
Breathtaking views along the shore of Lake Superior are just 10-minutes away! Stroll along the beach or bike, roller blade, jog or walk along dedicated paved pathways. The Lakeside residential community is only 5-minutes further where you’ll find an awesome city park, 27 hole golf course, craft shops, bakery, grocery store, gas stations as well as a convenient place to pick up subs, pizzas, etc.
Closer to home, guests are welcome to hike along the walking trails that we've cleared on our private 40-acres. Be sure to check out the narrow county logging road that runs along the east side of our property for a quiet stroll. Moreover, wild raspberries are often plentiful along the trails in late July/early August and wild hazelnuts are ready for picking in late August….provided you get to them before the squirrels and deer do! The north side of our property is peppered with numerous Maples so during Sept/Oct, a walk through the woods becomes exceptionally brilliant with all of the Fall colors!
Guests are also encouraged to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the campfire area. (campfire wood is provided at no charge.) I personally never get tired of listening to the sounds of the night accompanied by a spectacular star lit sky… all from a front row seat in this country setting!
While a bike ride to Lake Superior is not out of the question...particularly since it is mostly downhill, the return trip could be a real bear! We're in the country, so personal transportation is necessary!
