Woodsy Lodging Near Lake Superior

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom + loft which accomodates 2-small children (sleeps 6 max)

Secluded single family home on 40 heavily wooded acres...yet only 10-min from the scenic North Shore and only 20-min to downtown Duluth! The starry nights are spectacular away from the city lights and the sights & sounds of wildlife are everywhere.

The Space

Our single level 30' x 40' guest home (built in '06) has an open floor plan. The great room measures 18' x 30' and has a spacious kitchen and dining area on one side with the living room/TV viewing area on the other. The two bedrooms are located at the front of the has a queen bed and the other a double with the latter room also having a loft directly overhead... which is ideal for two children... sleeping bags required. The back of the house has a fairly large bathroom which doubles as the utility room. The washer and dryer are located here, which guests are welcome to use.

Guest Access

A fully functional wood burning stove is centrally located in the great room. Guests are welcome to use wife & I heated this home for 6-years almost exclusively with wood. Firewood is provided at no charge. As a back-up, there are individual electric wall heaters (with individual thermostats) in each room.

Interaction with Guests

My wife & I are in the midst of finishing our retirement home which is located in the middle of our 40-acres, so we are only a 5-minute walk up the driveway should guests have questions or need our assistance in anyway.

The Neighborhood

Breathtaking views along the shore of Lake Superior are just 10-minutes away! Stroll along the beach or bike, roller blade, jog or walk along dedicated paved pathways. The Lakeside residential community is only 5-minutes further where you’ll find an awesome city park, 27 hole golf course, craft shops, bakery, grocery store, gas stations as well as a convenient place to pick up subs, pizzas, etc.

Closer to home, guests are welcome to hike along the walking trails that we've cleared on our private 40-acres. Be sure to check out the narrow county logging road that runs along the east side of our property for a quiet stroll. Moreover, wild raspberries are often plentiful along the trails in late July/early August and wild hazelnuts are ready for picking in late August….provided you get to them before the squirrels and deer do! The north side of our property is peppered with numerous Maples so during Sept/Oct, a walk through the woods becomes exceptionally brilliant with all of the Fall colors!

Guests are also encouraged to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the campfire area. (campfire wood is provided at no charge.) I personally never get tired of listening to the sounds of the night accompanied by a spectacular star lit sky… all from a front row seat in this country setting!

Getting around

While a bike ride to Lake Superior is not out of the question...particularly since it is mostly downhill, the return trip could be a real bear! We're in the country, so personal transportation is necessary!

Verizon and Sprint Phone Service does not work while at this location but if you go toward Duluth a couple miles, it works just fine.

Perfect secluded getaway along the northshore

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic vacation to the North Shore, largely in part to our lodging. It was so apparent how well this property is lovingly cared for. The house was charming, sweet, and immaculately clean. All the details were thought of from the grilling tools to the cupboard of board games to the baskets of outdoor blankets...they provided everything necessary for a comfortable and fun stay. Definitely family friendly. The freestanding screen porch was the perfect spot for our morning coffee. There is a basketball hoop in the back and plenty of yard games to entertain the kids. We picked rasberries along the woodline and enjoyed campfires at night with the ample firewood that was provided. The kitchen had everything you could imagine needing and was so well organized and easy to navigate. Our hosts were so friendly and accommodating, they were readily available for our questions or needs but did not interfere with our stay. The location is perfect, easy to get to Hwy 61 and head up the shore or back into Duluth but far enough out of town to feel private. Would highly reccomend this great spot!

It's a winner!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, spotless and quiet digs with the most thoroughly thought-out amenities and supplies we've ever seen in a vrbo! Very spacious and comfortable. (For larger families, be aware that the 'sleeps 6' really only applies if 2 of the people are small children from the same family (not friends of older teens/young adults, which I clarified a bit late.)) Despite this, we enjoyed our stay and would visit again. Very conveniently located to Duluth, Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock state parks. Lots of deer and starry night views.

Great stay, close to downtown Duluth and Two Harbors. Will return!!

  • 5 of 5

The Woodsy Lodging is perfect for those looking to get away and have the feeling of "home". We stayed here for a weekend with our two younger children. The lodge is very clean and well stocked with just about anything you may need. The owners even left fresh wild flowers in a vase for our arrival which was a nice personal touch! There were plenty of games, toys, and quite the movie selection. It made the down time fun and easy with two little ones! We are already planning our return. Thank you to the owners for such a lovely stay!

A delightful, well kept place to stay. Everything you would need or want available.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Woodsy Lodge. The place is immaculate, well stocked with all the amenities, and well maintained, inside and out. All the furnishings are comfortable. We enjoyed the well stocked collection of movies while there. There is also a basket ball hoop and lots of inside and outside games to enjoy if you so choose. The kitchen was well stocked with all that you would ever need. We used the charcoal grill almost every night we were there. All your barbecuing utensils were available. There were nice chairs to sit in, on the front porch and out by the barbecue grill. We enjoyed sitting outside some. There is also a separate cozy sun room type building built to enjoy sitting and playing games We were close enough to Duluth to enjoy seeing the sites there and also went to Beaver Dam and Grand Marais for day trips. Royal and Jan were also a delight, making sure we had everything we needed and letting us know they were just a phone call or text away if we needed anything. They have thought of everything to make this a very comfortable place to stay. We have nothing negative to say about the Woodsy Lodging Near Lake Superior.

An amazing place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Staying in this cabin was a highlight of our trip! It was so nicely decorated and very clean. We felt so fortunate to have found such a gem of a place to stay. I'd stay here again without a doubt! It is such a beautiful cabin and had many things to keep my three boys busy - indoor toys and games, outdoor toys and games and basketball hoop. The fire pit was great! The little sunroom/house was very cute and is a nice place to sit and enjoy company. The boys also loved sleeping in the loft! I really enjoyed how comfortable the place was and how it had all the necessities. I also liked the location of the cabin - out a little bit from town, but not too far.
