2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom + loft which accomodates 2-small children (sleeps 6 max)
Secluded single family home on 40 heavily wooded acres...yet only 10-min from the scenic North Shore and only 20-min to downtown Duluth! The starry nights are spectacular away from the city lights and the sights & sounds of wildlife are everywhere.
Our single level 30' x 40' guest home (built in '06) has an open floor plan. The great room measures 18' x 30' and has a spacious kitchen and dining area on one side with the living room/TV viewing area on the other. The two bedrooms are located at the front of the house...one has a queen bed and the other a double with the latter room also having a loft directly overhead... which is ideal for two children... sleeping bags required. The back of the house has a fairly large bathroom which doubles as the utility room. The washer and dryer are located here, which guests are welcome to use.
A fully functional wood burning stove is centrally located in the great room. Guests are welcome to use it...my wife & I heated this home for 6-years almost exclusively with wood. Firewood is provided at no charge. As a back-up, there are individual electric wall heaters (with individual thermostats) in each room.
Interaction with Guests
My wife & I are in the midst of finishing our retirement home which is located in the middle of our 40-acres, so we are only a 5-minute walk up the driveway should guests have questions or need our assistance in anyway.
Breathtaking views along the shore of Lake Superior are just 10-minutes away! Stroll along the beach or bike, roller blade, jog or walk along dedicated paved pathways. The Lakeside residential community is only 5-minutes further where you’ll find an awesome city park, 27 hole golf course, craft shops, bakery, grocery store, gas stations as well as a convenient place to pick up subs, pizzas, etc.
Closer to home, guests are welcome to hike along the walking trails that we've cleared on our private 40-acres. Be sure to check out the narrow county logging road that runs along the east side of our property for a quiet stroll. Moreover, wild raspberries are often plentiful along the trails in late July/early August and wild hazelnuts are ready for picking in late August….provided you get to them before the squirrels and deer do! The north side of our property is peppered with numerous Maples so during Sept/Oct, a walk through the woods becomes exceptionally brilliant with all of the Fall colors!
Guests are also encouraged to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the campfire area. (campfire wood is provided at no charge.) I personally never get tired of listening to the sounds of the night accompanied by a spectacular star lit sky… all from a front row seat in this country setting!
While a bike ride to Lake Superior is not out of the question...particularly since it is mostly downhill, the return trip could be a real bear! We're in the country, so personal transportation is necessary!

It was even better then the pictures! So clean and cozy! Had everything we needed! Just loved it!
We loved it! So clean and cozy on a fall weekend! Had everything we needed. They were so nice-we called them and they came right down to help us with the wood burning stove! :) great place....we will be back!
Quiet, cozy and comfortable
We enjoyed our stay here. The cabin is very comfortable and quiet, yet close enough to Duluth proper and all the enticements of the north shore. It comes well stocked so if you've forgotten something, chances are good that the cabin has it. Would stay here again.
Feels Like Home!
This place was relaxing, clean, and affordable! I would recommend it to friends and family! Must have shared the link a dozen times!
Absolutely loved it!!!!!
The property was beautiful! Very welcoming and cozy! I hope to come back again.
Don't know what they could change to improve it. Everything was great.
Peaceful & Quiet
We have used VRBO numerous times – some places are disappointing and some continue to bring a smile to your face long after you’ve departed. This place belongs in the smile category. Our stay started with a warm welcome from Royal. We found the accommodations roomy and efficient with such a relaxing atmosphere. We so enjoyed the peace and quiet. The owners thoughtfully provided notes and guidance around the home. It would definitely make a wonderful place for families as there were lots of games, movies, and entertainment for both inside and outside fun. The only reason I rated it four stars versus five was the lack of cell service but that is through no fault of the owners.
Just to clarify ... most guests receive cell service reception at our guesthouse. As far as we are aware, Verizon is the only service that isn't received, as its signal stops about 3-miles away.
