Comfortable place to stay

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the house house. Loved sitting in the hot tub enyoing the ocean view. Kids had room in yard to play. They loved the sidewalk chalk that was at the house. It rained most of when we were they so the wood stove was nice to sit by.

Beautiful property but needs updates

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful property with an awesome walk out deck up in the loft. Large house and awesome hot tub where you can watch the ocean while soaking. Indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit and a huge stack of firewood. Didn't see whales but did see a sea lion which was awesome.

Needs new towels, bedding, softer pillows and new couches (out dated). Food splatter on dishwasher when checked in, leftover food in fridge, hairs on towels - didn't appreciate cleaning as I checked in. Check out was 10 am which is too early but got 11 am checkout upon request. Obnoxious signs all over "flush small amounts", "respect the table" which is unrelaxing. One hundred cleaning fee which I did not realize at the time of booking. Very dissapointed as we stayed two nights and cleaned before we left so cleaning would be 2 hours tops. You shouldn't be able to make interest on a cleaning fee. Would not stay again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I am concerned about the cleanliness, as we pride ourselves on that. I have had comments regarding my signage before and will be removing the signs. New towels have been put in the house. I am glad you were able to enjoy the awesome location and I sincerely apologize for the cleaning issues upon check in. Danica

Nice Location - Deceptive Property Listing

  • 1 of 5

We vacated this rental 30 hours after check-in as part of a 9 day trip to Sooke. We are disappointed to leave a negative review as our expectations were so high based on previous raving reviews. We believe a family can have an amazing time here at this location, but we have two major points of feedback A) this property is NOT as advertised in this listing and B) Beware if you have any concerns as Danica comes with a ""You deal with it"" approach. Had the listing been accurate we WOULD NEVER have booked this property!.

Once the concerns were presented to Danica, we were alarmed by her disregard for our well-being. We are a family of 7 with young kids and toddlers, the last thing we can afford is lost money on an already expensive family trip NOR any disruption. Due to prior obligations the earliest we could address our concerns was 26 hours after arrival. We did however send a note of concern within 2.5 hours of our arrival. We had expected so much more!

After our personal obligations were complete, we spoke with Danica at sundown on the second day by phone. She gave us a small refund when someone replaced out booking but we are still far from whole on this interaction. She was very short with us & made it clear money was all that mattered.

My hope is that she spends some of my money on upgrading. Buy new sheets & towels now, not delaying until the next complaint! Alternatively, I hope she also spends time making her listing and pictures accurate so that future renters know what they are getting. The pictures are left outdated and are incomplete for a reason.

Ad Deceptive as follows:

- Cleanliness of home not suitable for kids

- Warnings of septic problems for both toilets

- Both BRs listed as a combo tub/shower - Upstairs is very small shower ONLY

- Has a Rodent Problem - Riddex (Anti-rodent) Plug-in on Kitchen Counter

- Bath & Hand Towels & rugs are stained & ancient

- Found both dirty rug and stained bath towels in washer

- Bleach stains on carpets

- Peeling paint on walls

- Bedding & Sheets old & worn out. The one night we slept in bed, we began itching, felt like fiberglass

- Upstairs floors are uneven induces dizziness when you walk

- Yard is overgrown and unattended to. Walkways filled with Debris & uneven

- Fire pit is missing number of stones, unsafe to use

- Both Outdoor decks advertised as covered. Only 1 is

- 4-5 ft beach drop off from Concrete, unsuitable for kids

- wifi is listed, does not work in whole house

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. The images in our website are very accurate and show the outside and inside of the house and the descriptions of the rooms and decks accurate with the exception of some furniture. Danica was in contact via email and in person with this customer within hours of check in to greet and ensure comfort. The signs in the bathrooms say "Please use small amount of toilet paper." which we consider preventative. The riddex is also preventative and there is not a rodent problem. The "stained and ancient" towels were cleaning rags washed with the floor mats. The washer empty, these items were found dry in the dryer. There are bleach marks on the upstairs carpet as a result of someone mistakenly using a bleach cleaner to spot clean the carpets. There is also paint peeling in one of our skylights. We have now switched back to hypoallergenic laundry soap as the harsh alternative we were using on the linens is not comfortable to some guests. We are sorry that the landscaping was not up to par. We had just gone through the most severe storm experienced here in over 50 years and there was debris and seaweed present. Our location is highly suitable for families; however, if you want to be in town or at a "luxury condo" you would be better off renting something right in Sooke.

A wonderful holiday home.

  • 4 of 5

This was our second stay at Otter Point Beach House and we loved it just as much the second time around.

The location is fantastic, right on its own secluded bay and the otters and harbour seals do come right into the little bay and in the case of the otters run up the beach in front of the house.

The house is simply furnished with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms good sized and clean. The kitchen well appointed.

Danica met us as arranged and was very friendly.

We sampled all the various coffee shops- Stick in the Mud and Serious Coffee being the ones we liked best.

We ate at Stone Pipe Grill, Route 14 and Mai Mai's bistro all of which provided good food at reasonable prices.

We went to the Saltworks and local Cidery, drove up to beach-comb on Botanical Beach, hiked along some of the Galloping Goose trail and sat out on the point at the House watching the wildlife in the sea and on land ( bald eagle sitting by the house).

We would recommend this to a family looking for a relaxing holiday.
