Blue Run Cabin: Unique Rainbow River Location

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 bed, 1 bath, sleeps 5

With one bedroom plus a sleeping loft and one bathroom, this cabin offers an unparalleled view of the Rainbow River which can be enjoyed from the hammock, the hot tub, the outdoor dining area or the patio area. This family-friendly rental sits at about the midpoint of the river and is bordered by the Florida State Greenway.

The cabin is ideal for the nature lover. Spring brings the blue herons to nest in the cypress in front of the house. You can see the different creatures as the day progresses: ducks in the early morning, blue heron fishing at mid-day, the hummingbird and otters in the evening, and the owl at dusk. Nature provides an ever evolving show right from the comfort of the deck.

Activities include swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, and everyone’s favorite: tubing down the river. The spring water is 73 degrees year round so if that's not to your liking you can enjoy the screen enclosed hot tub overlooking the river.

The cabin has one bedroom and a sleeping loft and is suitable for up to four. Families of more than four are discouraged but may be considered on a case by case basis for an additional charge. Come enjoy the natural beauty of this gem the locals affectionately call the' Blue Run.'

About Dwight

I am about as close to Tom Sawyer as you will find. I grew up running around in the woods along the Rainbow River shirtless and barefoot. We would fish off of anything that would float and we had no qualms about sneaking out and bass fishing off of someone's dock when they left for the supermarket. My first home as an adult was an old cracker style house downstream on the Blue Run. (It was not much of a house). That house is still standing and will for a long time because it stayed in the family and now belongs to one of my closest friends. If you float down you can see the place on the east bank. You can recognize it on weekends because it is the only place with plastic lawn furniture set up out in the river. Give them a shout on the way by. They are fine southern folks. We all remember the river the way it was before it was discovered, but that was a long time ago and we can't undiscover it, so we welcome our visitors. I'm glad I got to see it then in its more natural state. I hope my visitors enjoy the river as much as I have. -Dwight

Beautiful Setting, beautiful deck, beautiful spot

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to give this home four stars, but from someone who religiously reads through reviews, I couldn’t downgrade the home over seating. I stayed with my husband and another couple. There is only one bedroom and we didn’t mind at all sleeping on our blow up bed, but the seating is awful for more than one person. There is only one couch and plenty of wooden, uncomfortable chairs. One day it rained and we had to stay in, plus it was super bowl Sunday. I wish there was a recliner or just any chair slightly comfy enough to sit in for more than an hour. Ok, that’s my ONLY complaint.

The great news is it’s a wonderful home! Kitchen is plenty big for 4 people snacking and sitting at table to play cards. The property is very private. One neighbor to the side and woods on the other side. Big yard with fire pit. Two decks to relax on. We never felt cramped. Loved all the connecting decks and space the property has. The windows are amazing! Almost the entire cabin wall had floor to ceiling windows. You could sit on couch and see the yard, deck, dock, porch, river. The bedroom has French doors that open to hot tub and full river/dock view.

The home was stocked well but as with any rental, if there is something specific you want, just bring it. We always bring our good knife, pan and spices. The one bathroom is large but has a small shower. There were blankets but not enough for a cold night and 4 people. My husband is a large man and didn’t mind sleeping in the tiny attic type loft, but it was not for me. You have to bend over to walk around up there. Would be super awesome is the couch had a pull out bed.

None of the above are deal breakers at all and I would 100% rent again! I will just bring extra stuff for my stay. I just like when reviews give me extra insight and hopefully this was does for you.

Perfect setting for relaxing river getaway

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed staying at this cabin. My wife and I and our two dogs had a fantastic time relaxing on the dock by the river. There is so much to do here. We brought our own paddleboards and bikes, but the owner also includes paddleboards, kayaks, floats, etc., so you can come as you are. This cabin is in a secluded corner of a nice little neighborhood. The area is nice for walking and the neighbors are friendly. There are some woods for the dogs to run around in. You can launch your boards or kayaks right from the back yard and there is a little swimout right there. The cabin is in a perfect spot to head either upstream or down but we launched from the KP Hole park on the day we wanted to make it up to the headsprings because the current is a little strong (in a kayak it would probably be easier). If you head downstream from the cabin, it is not too far to get to the big lake which is full of turtles. There is a lot to see and do on the river. The jacuzzi is a welcome feature and the bed in the master is super comfortable. The wrap-around deck is great for barbecuing and there is a modern eat-in kitchen for your dining pleasure. There is a loft bedroom upstairs that would be suitable for kids.

The most relaxing vacation in decades!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Blue Run Cabin. We loved kayaking. The river is perfect for all kinds of water fun. The setting is very very special. The owner has done a great job of landscaping along the shoreline for relaxing or fishing. The cabin is perfect for enjoying the outdoors from every place in the house. Love the windows. We liked the kitchen with all the cabinets and counter top space. The bathroom was roomy. All to enjoy, nothing to grump about. Thank you Dwight. The cabin is charming!

So cozy and close to EVERYTHING we wanted to do! We loved the deck, fire pit, hot tub, grill, the wifi, the trails. I have paddled the river many times. This was our first stay on the river. Totally worth the money we spent. We had friends over and they really enjoyed it and had lots of questions. Loved all the history of the area Dwight has displayed around the house. Everybody thought the loft was so cute. We brought our gheenoe, SUP boards and bikes. WE used everything. The insulation in the house is top notch. Excellent water pressure. All the amenities were great and we used a lot of the extra pans and containers in the kitchen. We were able to wash our clothes before we left, so we don't have to do laundry when we get home. So much wildlife viewed right from the dock. Stayed there all day one time. Sunrise and sunsets were amazing. Very quiet area. Had a hawk perch in the yard. We only live 1 1/2 hours from here. WE WILL BE BACK! My friends are sure to be future guests here themselves. A great piece of heaven. One of the best vacations of my life. I was sad to leave.

Clean, Cozy Cabin in a Lovely, Magical Setting!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Blue Run Cabin on the crystal clear Rainbow River in early November of 2017. The cabin is very well maintained. The location in a natural setting on the beautiful river is unique. The otters, birds and other wildlife are just amazing. Majestic cypress trees draped with Spanish moss line both sides of the river. You can float the river on the provided kayaks and standup paddle boards right from your own doc.

The weather was quite dynamic during our stay. We had occassion to use both the air conditioning and the heating. They both worked very well. All the systems in the home seemed to do exactly what you would want. The house was well lit inside and out, with well organized light switches logically placed. The decor in the house was clever and appealing. We found a useful and entertaining set of guide books, local information and other interesting reading materials. The host, Dwight, is a writer and an environmentalist. Samples of his informative and interesting writing were available as well.

The cabin kitchen is well furnished with everything you need for eating at home. The hot tub was clean and well situated to soak and watch the world drift by. The privacy and tranquility provided a great change of pace for our vacation in the Florida woods. We hope we get to visit this cabin again, even though we live thousands of miles away.

Perfect Get away

  • 5 of 5

The place was just as advertised - awesome. So close to nature and nice and private. The views and decks were incredible. I saw 3 otters while enjoying one of the paddle boards - just what the Dr. ordered. My wife and I(and Yellow Lab Walter) also used the home as a base camp to mountain bike, horseback ride, and hike for three wonderful days. Highly recommend it!

Also, Dwight was super responsive during the booking process and answering questions. He already sent the refund for the damage deposit - very nice not to have to ask for it. Thanks for everything. Eric and Jen
