Our cheerful and cozy 650 square foot log cabin is nestled amongst a hemlock forest on a corner lot. We are located in a neighborhood at the base of Max's Mountain, one mountain over from Alyeska. It is a short drive or a 20-30 minute walk through the neighborhood to the base of Alyeska or the town center. There are many trail hikes of varying levels in Girdwood. Virgin Creek Falls is a nearby hike from the cabin.
We offer a small bedroom (queen size bed) with shelving and closet space, bathroom (sink, tub, and shower), and sleeper sofa (full size mattress) downstairs and a smaller bedroom (full size bed) with shelving space upstairs as well. There is a Rinnai automatic gas heater in the living room.
Kitchen includes: stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, as well as dishes, utensils, glasses, pots and pans.
We provide towels and linens, as well as soaps, tea, hot chocolate, and coffee.
Please note that TV, internet, and laundry are not provided, however we can direct you to public internet access and laundry facilities in the nearby area.
The cabin was perfect for our final days of our honeymoon. A perfect little piece of Alaska wilderness!
Very cute and comfy. Lara provided a lot of nice touches that made us feel welcome and at home. There are good restaurants, gas station and laundromat within a few miles. We stayed for 10 days and it was wonderful to come "home" and relax after our busy day. It is about 40 miles south of Anchorage but it was ideal for us. We were able to easily do day trips to Seward, Hope, Whittier, Homer, Anchorage and Wasilla. There are plenty of places to stop along any of these drives to do trail hiking, watching wildlife, visiting shops, etc. We would absolutely stay there again and highly recommend Lara's cozy cabin.
The cabin was very nice and clean and stocked with the basics less a toaster. Comfortable for 4 people.
The neighbors left a little to be desired. We were chased into the cabin by an aggressive white sheep dog and it looks like a squatter set up across the road in a trailer and abandoned car. Would not recommend a walk around the neighborhood but the Girdwood area has many nice trails that make up for it.
Had a great weekend away at the cabin. Felt very at home and found everything we needed in the kitchen. Very quiet and woodsy but close to the center of Girdwood.
Enjoyed the nearby one hour hike with a free ride down the Alyeska tram at the end. Ate at great restaurants in the area.
Lara was exceptionally responsive and helpful, even when I forgot details at the last minute.
We stayed at the cottage in the woods for four days in mid July. It was a fantastic base camp for all points in Alaska. The cottage is quaint, cute and just perfect. It was remote enough but still has neighbors all around. The cabin is very convenient to town and in a beautiful wooded setting. We are so glad we chose this location over nearby hotels. The home is located about 40 minutes outside of Anchorage and also close to Seward, Whitter, Talkeetna, Palmer and Wasilla, which we had time to explore while on our trip.
I highly recommend this cabin to anyone visiting Alaska!
This cabin is in the middle of the woods in a very peaceful Girdwood neighborhood. There are neighbors, but at the same time, is very private. Every time you look out the window, you see trees! We saw neighbors walking dogs every day and they were quite friendly, but the cabins are spaced far enough apart so we never heard any neighbors from our cabin and you are certainly not looking into anyone else's cabin (or they into yours). The cabin is near many great attractions (you will need a car) - the Alyeska ski resort, outstanding Girdwood restaurants, hikes in ALL difficulty levels, Whittier glacier cruises (Do Not Miss!), the Portage glacier cruise and wildlife center, magnificent scenery, opportunities to view wildlife from the highway including Beluga whales and Dall's sheep (we saw some of each!), the bore tide (google it), and also the many attractions of Anchorage - zoo, fish hatchery, museum, etc. The cabin is equipped with a full kitchen and everything you need to cook and eat a meal or you can head for one of the great Girdwood restaurants. The owners supply your morning coffee/tea fix and also instant oatmeal. We were pleasantly surprised to find the best restaurants of our two week trip in Girdwood (The Bake Shop, Jack Sprat, 7 Glaciers (what a view!!)). The cabin will accommodate 6 and has ample space to just hang out (large table and a couch). It has two bedrooms and a sleeper couch, and we really appreciated the space for our family of 3 adults after staying in hotel rooms with two queen beds. If lack of television and wifi is a problem for you, then this cabin may not be for you. We were able to use our smart phone connectivity and got by fine. It is a cabin vs a hotel room, so keep that in mind when renting. We thought the price for the value at the cabin was excellent, but if you are looking for daily maid service or want to be able to tromp around with your dirty boots on, this cabin may not be for you. This cabin has a lot of personal touches, and you should treat it like you are staying in someone's home. The owner has added thoughtful, homey touches - thick towels, dishes, games and cards, brochures for local attractions - and is very prompt, friendly, and straightforward about everything. You are dealing with a real person, not a company or booking service. We received our security deposit refund before we even got home! We would definitely stay here again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the "cozy log cabin." As described in the listing, the cabin is very small, but it is very well-appointed. There are lots of hooks for hanging coats, etc., many small bookshelves and cabinets for storing things, a shoe rack by the door for managing shoes, and a nice touch is that there is a suitcase-width shelf inside the larger bedroom closet, which perfectly fit our suitcases so they could be out of the way! The sheets and towels were good-quality, all beds and pull-out couch were comfy. The coffee/cream and "emergency" breakfast food (instant oatmeal!) was a good touch and came in handy! Hot water supply was seemingly endless. Location is wooded and quiet and pretty but close to town amenities.
Girdwood is great base for day trips to Portage, Whittier (Prince Willam Sound), Hope, and Cooper Landing. Activites in these places include: sightseeing, animal viewing, hiking, biking, rafting/kayaking, fishing, museums/visitor centers, bars/restaurants, and some shopping.
