Fairbanks Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Secluded, furnished Alaskan cabin in forest setting. Sleeps up to 4 max people

Our cozy log cabin is self contained and secluded in a beautiful forest setting just outside Fairbanks in the Goldstream Valley. Only 12 miles from downtown Fairbanks and 20 minutes from the airport, the Goldstream Valley is famous for dog mushing, ski trails and aurora viewing in winter. Located only 5 miles from the local downhill ski area, Moose Mountain. In summer, the area boasts great mountain biking trails (Ester Dome single-track), access to hiking and panoramic views of the Fairbanks area.

There is great views of the pond and aurora when it is out, that you can see from the comfort of your bed in the bedroom in the winter.

Designed to give you a real Alaskan wilderness experience, the Denali Adventure log cabin was handcrafted by your host using local spruce trees. Wildlife frequent the area, including moose, fox and sandhill cranes. There are several sled-dog kennels located in the area where you will hear their occasional distant howls floating across the tree tops. Every effort has been made to make this accommodation a typical rustic and authentic Alaskan cabin in harmony with its natural surroundings.

The cabin comfortably sleeps up to 4 people with a double bed in the loft and a fold-out sofa/futon in the downstairs lounge. There is a full, self-contained kitchen. The cabin is rustic but modern. In keeping with the Alaskan tradition of simplicity and low environmental impact, the toilet is a typical Alaskan outhouse, which is located outside the cabin. There is a separate sauna and shower building 10 feet from the cabin. There is a woodstove that is used to heat up the water and the shed for your shower. In the meantime there is seating in there for you to have a sauna while this is happening.

There is a restaurant, store/market, laundry and gas station conveniently located less than one mile down the road. Please note that sometimes in the summer when it rains too much or there is too much snow in the in winter access to the carpark may be restricted, but we will provide you with an alternative place to park to have easy access to the cabin.

Once a gold rush boomtown, Fairbanks is now Alaska’s second largest city after Anchorage. In the summer, the sun shines for nearly 24 hours a day giving you lots of time to do the many activities such as panning for gold, floating the Chena River, mingling with reindeer and musk oxen, cooling off in an ice museum, or taking a refreshing hike, or be inspired by local art galleries, museums, and historic sites.

Late August to April you have a great chance to see the shimmering light of the aurora borealis. In the winter there are host of activities such as dog mushing, snow mobile trips and skiing, as well as soaking in hot pools of Chena Hot Springs.

About Simon McLoughlin

I am a New Zealander who has been living in the Goldstream Valley, on the outskirts of the city of Fairbanks, for 18 years. Before arriving in Alaska, I was a keen kayaker, skier, mountaineer, and hiker..I came to Alaska in 1990 lured by wilderness, big mountains and sparsely populated areas. In 1992 my friend and business partner Chris and Ispent 3 exciting weeks climbing Denali. We added more adventure to the experience by walking out instead of flying out.

I am still adventuring 25 years on but now mostly with my 15 rambunctious sled dogs.

Simon McLoughlin purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Simon McLoughlin chose Alaska

My business partner Chris and I built this log cabin, as we wanted to offer our friends and guests the opportunity to experience a real Alaskan lifestyle.

What makes this cabin unique

We have deliberately kept the cabins simple but yet comfortable and cozy. There is no television in the cabins. We wanted to create an environment that brought you back to nature. All our cabins have a low impact on the environment. It is place to come and recharge the batteries and replenish the soul. We are also able to offer you dog sledding and snow mobile trips. You can cross country ski from outside your doorstep onto the many miles of ski tracks. There is also a ski field 10 minutes drive from your cabin.

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Coming from Los Angeles, my friends and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into but Simon and the cabin were great! We arrived on a late night flight and Simon was waiting for us to make sure we were settled in for our stay in his amazing cozy cabin. It really made our stay in Fairbanks pretty memorable from the awesome location, frozen ponds, freezing outhouse and relaxing sauna...good times all around!

Quiet and secluded

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was small and cozy. We went when it was very cold so we could not enjoy the pond or surroundings much. Beautiful view. The aurora was easy to see from the windows if we did not want to go outside. For the people staying in the cold months a suggestion might be to have a few board games. Overall a great stay. Will have to go back in the summer to take in all the cabin has to offer. Would definitely stay there again.

Peaceful Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

That we couldn't stay longer was our only regret about staying at the Pond Cabin! Peace reigns here. Drifting on the little pond in the canoe, cozy alcove overlooking the pond, quiet woods - what it must have been like on Walden Pond. Cabin is just as advertised, everything works. One couldn't ask for a more gracious and accommodating host than Simon. A very small taste of what backcountry Alaska may be like, but comfortable and within easy reach of Fairbanks civilization. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

Relaxing, beautiful, Rustic getaway

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful relaxing stay at the "dry" Pond Cabin. If you want to feel like your getting a true rustic, Alaskan feel this is a great place. Beautiful "dry" cabin. Simon makes sure you've got plenty of water to drink, cook, do dishes, bathe etc. I loved the separate cabin sauna/shower house! You build a small fire, heat your own water for your shower/sauna experience. Loved it! There's also a separate outhouse. All your basic needs for cooking are there; plates, bowls, pots, pans, cooking & eating utensils. The loft dbl bed is so comfy with soft warm bedding and an absolutely breath taking view of the mountain ridge. We enjoyed taking a serene Paddle around the small pond. Canoe & life jackets are provided. We are hoping to return for a winter experience! Simon was very kind and hospitable.

Pond Cabin

  • 4 of 5

What a nice cabin in the woods. It was perfect for our stay with Willow our rottweiler. Enjoyed hiking around the area. Unfortunate that it was cloudy and we didn't see the northern lights. Loved the sauna.

Simon's cabin was exactly as shown on the website, and so much more!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin could not have been more perfect, and Simon was very quick to respond to all our needs. Three adults slept very comfortably in this cabin. Though secluded enough to have lots of peace and quiet, the town was not a far drive, if you didn't bring enough provisions or was looking to explore. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to all of my friends and family. Much mahalos, Simon and Chris! =)
