About George and Christi Fuller

George and I have vacationed to Lake Toxaway forever! We own our primary home in Florida. We both love the beauty and tranquil setting of Lake Toxaway. We swim, hike and boat all summer long. Our son lives in California as a web producer, but brings all of his friends back for a mountain vacation and river rafting. We have the best of both worlds…a beautiful lake retreat and a home on the river in Florida. This year, we are sharing the relaxing lake experience with you!

George and Christi Fuller purchased this townhome in 1978

Why George and Christi Fuller chose Smoky Mountains

As one of the founding families of Lake Toxaway, Lucy Moltz (owned the Greystone Inn) said 'I've been all over the world, but I have never been anywhere as beautiful as Lake Toxaway'." That is how we feel too! Our condo has been in my husband's family since Toxaway Shores was developed in the 1970's. It is interesting how the properties pass from generation to generation here. We purchased our unit because of the beautiful long view of Lake Toxaway. .We have always loved the mountains, but Lake Toxaway is special. Anyone who has visited us, always wants an invite back. We feel that we'd like to share the joy and relaxation this location holds. We have renovated the condo over the years and have it just like we want it now, with reclaimed wood floors in the huge family room, pine in the master bedroom and bath, completely redone master bath, and work area off of the master bedroom. It's just the perfect location and a relaxing, comfortable, well-appointed place to vacation.

Toxaway Shores consists of 24 units on 7 beautiful acres that overlook Lake Toxaway; North Carolina's largest private lake with 14 miles of shoreline. Sunset cruises are a must! We are truly up in the mountains. Cashiers is 20 mins. from the condo, Brevard 30 minutes and Asheville an hour. Toxaway Shores has an easy 45 minutes access to the Asheville airport. Within 5-10 minutes, there are hiking trails that you will love, Toxaway River Trail, Mills Creek Falls. and you can hike to the bottom of Toxaway Falls for an amazing view of its entire length. There is a small stand by the falls to buy fresh eggs, jams, honey and Amish butter. Should you be looking for a river float adventure, there is an outfitter 15 minutes toward Brevard that is located right on the river. You can rent boats, tubes, and kayaks at Lake Toxaway Marine just across from the condos adjacent to the LT Country Club. Definitely use our canoe! Go out early in the morning when the lake is completely

What makes this townhome unique

The lake sits at 3000 feet, so warm days and cool nights. Toxaway is a private lake, the largest in N.C. Enjoy a quiet morning walking the dock with a cup of coffee or sitting in one of the adorandeck chairs reading a good book. Get your peace of mind back!

We love being an hour from Asheville too. Take a day trip to see The Biltmore Estate, or enjoy one of the many summer concerts at sunset on the back lawn of the estate (call or go to the Biltmore webpage for a list of entertainers), go on a brewery tour as this area is becoming one of the top brewery destinations, downtown shopping is fun from homemade potato chips, unique teas, to funky fun has it all! Many great restaurants too! There is also a beautiful Arboretum you can see for a small fee. Go into Montford for some great Jamacian cooking or to the Arts District for a walk about! You'll have a fun day!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Living in beautiful Virginia and wintering on the water in Florida, my expectations for my husband's choice of vacationing in NC were guarded, to say the least. Was I wrong!! Our time spent at Toxaway Shores was one of our family's best vacations ever...and this is the consensus of a family ranging in age from ten to sixty five. There were great activities for all..nearby hiking trails, numerous water activities, shopping, and restaurants. However, what made this the A+ vacation was was the condo itself, with its gorgeous huge cathedral ceiling family room, its spacious porch off the kitchen, beautiful master bath, and exceptional beds to collapse into at the end of long fun filled days. This condo provided commodious spaces for family gatherings while also offering quiet nooks for those "getaway moments" we all need. We are already planning our next summer trip to Toxaway Shores.

Wonderfully appointed spacious condo

  • 5 of 5

We just left after a week at Toxaway Shores and will definitely be back. Great location and plenty of room to spread out. The view from the porch is wonderful and the kids really enjoyed the pool and making s'mores in the fire put as well as out time out on the lake. The other residents are quiet and friendly.

Really really incredible place!

  • 5 of 5

It's not often that my entire family is happy with one of my vacations, however this time around I scored big time! Lake Toxaway is a beautiful lake. The lake is almost deserted during the week and even on the weekends there are only a few boats tubing / skiing. Great fishing from the docks at the condo. The pool is quite nice and never busy. The tennis courts were in great shape.

The condo itself worked out great, it was well cared for and apportioned. The weber grill worked flawlessly. The beds were super comfy. The master bath shower was really spacious - if you are into showers.

We are a pretty high maintenance family and we loved every aspect of the unit and the area. There isn't much in the way of places to eat, however there is a grill towards cashiers that isn't far at all that had great breakfast and lunch and there is a shop close by that advertises wine / cheese which actually offers bread, eggs, sides, beer, meats, steaks, etc.. and Amore is decent for dinner.

Brevard is pretty fun, and has an incredible toy shop if you have kids and has a chocolate shop that puts Kilwin's to shame. Lots of great restaurants there. Cashiers is more eclectic and has an incredible restaurant called the Orchard. Lots of great golf near Cashiers as well.

Christi (the owner) was super nice and attentive and helpful. We hope to return someday!

Beautifull Lake Toxaway Condo, Exceptional Lake Vista

  • 5 of 5

The Owner's directions to the property were flawless. Weather was perfect for the entire week. The peace and quiet as well as the beauty of the lake were wonderful. The condo met our expections, but must mention that the kitchen although well equipped was quite small and comfortable for one person only. The lake view from the screened in porch was delightful. Owner's binder with information was very helpful to us. Hiking, canoeing and fishing from the dock were terrific. Brown Trout and Amore were two good restaurants close by. We look forward to another visit!

Roomy, cozy lakefront condo. No beach- but can swim off dock. Boat would be better.

  • 4 of 5

My family stayed here and overall had a good time. The condo had lots of room for everyone with multiple levels which is nice so everyone can spread out. The screened in porch is a lovely place to read, eat dinner and play board games with a great view.

Some of the decor might be a little off-putting to animal lovers (think wolf pelt on the wall and deer head above the fireplace). Also, consider packing in dinner for your first night as the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away (after a long drive in, we really didn't want to drive back out to Brevard or Cashiers). There are a few restaurant close by, but call ahead for reservations.

Owner's Response: I apologize for not telling you to pick up groceries on the way in. I appreciate the comment and will make sure to tell others in the future. Believe it or not..we are animal lovers! The pelt came from friends in Maine that helped to support an eskimo family for the year and the deer head was left at a taxidermist and was not going to be picked up. We do not hunt and I stop on roadsides to help hurt or abandoned animals. I am sorry if those offended you. I do understand your response. As to swimming in the lake and boating, there is a swimming area to the left side of the boathouse but all are welcome to swim off of the dock also. Boats are available to rent at the marina. Having a boat is wonderful to have for tubing or cruising! Thank you for your review and we hope you had a great time at the lake!

TONS OF ACTIVITIES or JUST RELAX! Start your day with a cup of coffee while watching the mist rise from the lake and the geese making their morning flight. Take out our canoe out for an early morning paddle....amazingly beautiful! You can swim in our heated pool or swim in our fresh water lake, the largest private lake in NC. Hiking is abundant. Toxaway River Trail, 5 mins from our condo, is one of the favorites. There are national parks throughout the area. Gorges State Park is a 10-15 min drive.. Make sure you hike Rainbow and Turtleback Falls (about 6 miles round trip). There is gem mining locally for the kids on 281. Great restaurants in Toxaway include the Blind Mule, The Chestnut overlooking Toxaway Falls and Osteria. River canoeing and tubing is located at Headwater Outfitters about 15 mins down 64E. You can rent a boat at the marina and enjoy cruising the lake or any of the many water sports you may enjoy. Then again, if you want to sit and read…that's perfect too!
