About Susan

We are siblings looking to share what we have been so blessed to have inherited; so that others may enjoy the beauty of the mountains also.

Susan purchased this house in 2011

Why Susan chose Pittsburgh & Its Countryside

This acre is part of the larger non-working farm that consists of 100 acres. Applewood sits by itself and is your private home while here. The barn is very visible and no longer used for livestock. The fields are rented out to local farmers for growing livestock feed. This has always been the place to come and play no matter where we lived as young adults.

What makes this house unique

The coziness of the house reflects how we feel about living in the mountains. People are friendly and we are close to so many attractions and historical sites. People come from abroad to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's famous homes. The many trails, whether bike or walking are beautiful in any season and constantly changing. The festivals will take you back to a time and era when steam ran the farm equipment and sugar was and still is tapped in the maple trees. As you travel the roads, you'll see covered bridges, babbling brooks filled with trout, and friendly faces.

Winter activities abound at the 3 ski resorts in the areas, state parks, theaters and more.

All this and more lies within 20 minutes of Applewood Country Cottage, just waiting for you to enjoy.

This house was well set up for 2-6 people. Very comfy beds and the house was set up with almost everything we needed! The welcome wine was delightful and having all the bed and bath linen and little sundries we might have forgotten was a nice bonus. Not all rental houses will include this! Having the fire laid out and ready to go was nice too! Even though we were off a main road it was really quiet in the house, and so many birds out back! Very lovely and peaceful. And very convenient to get to FallingWater and the nearby parks. The Only thing that was difficult was that there were almost NO pots and pans or bakeware or serving dishes. But, nice sharp cutting knives and plenty of eating dishes and cups and silverware. I usually choose to stay at a house because I like to cook and I don't want the expense of eating out! So paying more to rent a house is worth it. Especially if you are cooking for more than one. It's my only complaint!!! I know to bring my own spices but I usually expect cookware. Otherwise, it was a really, really perfect place! I would definitely want to rent again!

Cozy, Clean, Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My family felt right at home! First and most important, the doll house area for my little girls was a big hit! The house was very clean and very cozy. Ms Susan is very thoughtful...Hot chocolate, coffee, snacks, spare toiletries just in case and a snow shovel! It snowed 2 of the days we were there and we made it up to Hidden Valley to ski. The house is in a central location so the driving was easy. We ate a few times at the local restaurants...Food was good and very affordable. We would definitely stay here again!

Cozy, great for a family get-away!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! The house was clean, well-equipped, and very comfortable. It was close to Ohiopyle's hiking trails, Fallingwater and other parks (loved the hiking). The wine that Susan left us in the refrigerator was a fun surprise, and the selection of games and books kept us occupied in the evening. I would definitely recommend this home :)

Excellent!

The cottage was lovely! Everything was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The check in/out process couldn't have been easier.

We felt very much at home for our brief stay, and we'll definitely try to stay here again if we need.

Charming, clean, well-equipped home

  • 5 of 5

We came to PA in August to do some white-water rafting, hiking and to visit Falling Water and Pittsburgh. The owner could not have been more helpful. She gave us tips about the local attractions (for example, advanced reservations are usually needed for Falling Water) and met us at the door when we arrived. The home was very clean and came with everything we could have wanted. We cooked in the well-equipped kitchen, used the propane grill and relaxed in the comfortable sitting area in the large back yard. The house also has satellite TV and wifi. The bedrooms are large and comfortable and the all linens and towels were provided. The location is ideal for Falling Water and Ohiopyle (both just a short drive down the road). There are a variety of local restaurants and the town of Connelsville is just down the mountain. We highly recommend this property and look forward to returning for another visit. While we came in summer, the home is also very close to Seven Springs and Hidden Valley ski resorts.

Owner's Response: We love meeting our guests and ensuring they have all the comforts needed. Please let us know if you're interested in a ski trip. On the romantic side, try a sleigh ride over snow covered trails or just some bob sledding. Let us send you information when you're ready for a winter season adventure.
