Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

Our cabin doesn't offer views of the ocean, but what it does offer is a view of it's own private pond with a bridge unlike any other you've seen. The background beyond the pond is a beautiful view of Turtleback Mountain. 'Our Place' provides peace and serenity on a 6 1/2 acre parcel at the end of a private road in a secluded and quiet wooded setting. The best sunset's on Orcas can be seen from West beach less than a mile away.

About Angie

Dan was born and raised on Orcas. His family homesteaded here in the late 1800's. I moved here from Utah 22 years ago. We both raised our children here on the island and now they too are living here and raising their own children.

Angie purchased this house in 2009

Why Angie chose Orcas Island

It's southwest exposure offers sun all day and beautiful sunsets in the evenings. I'm partial to the west side of the island because it's the area my family settled and also it's where I've lived my entire life.

What makes this house unique

The view of the pond and bridge as you sit on the covered porch first thing in the morning will make even the rainiest day seem like bright blue skies.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you very much for helping us create family memories. We appreciated your efforts - from the fully-stocked pond, to the beautifully crafted bridge, to the restful deck, to the comfy beds.

This is a special place.

Lovely inside and out

  • 5 of 5

We feel so lucky to have stayed at "Our Place". Angie was absolutely darling and so kind to us. We loved all of the sweet touches around the house and property. The painted rocks, the hammock swings and the beautiful, homey interior design. So comfortable and lovely. The kids loved "swimming with the fishes". Just being at the property made us feel so relaxed and lucky to be there.

The house itself is wonderfully built and I could not stop gazing at the beautiful bridge built from one large tree trunk with a perfect curve. Really a work of art and expert construction!

Thank you so much to the Kimples.

We rent many houses and this was one of the best ever!

Perfect family retreat

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a quiet place to get away after our son's week at sleep away camp and Our Place delivered. The property lives up to its photos and it was the perfect respite for our family of three, plus small dog. The pond provided a place for fly casting and boat floating, the house was well stocked with amenities (earning high praise from a critical middle schooler), and the porch was a great place to enjoy a morning coffee and some quiet reading. It felt very private, and yet was still close to Eastbound and all of its conveniences. We'll be back!

Idyllic and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and perfect for our family of 4. It's clear that the owners take great care to make it a nice place. We had a blast playing in the pond and feeding the fish and going on the little boat. The kids also really enjoyed the play structure and running around the large yard while we relaxed on the porch in hammock chairs. The owner was lovely and friendly and easy to communicate with.

Great place, close to town and Camp Orkila

  • 4 of 5

My son and I spent a long weekend here, attending a school camp event at YMCA Camp Orkila. The house is just right for a couple and one or two kids. Clean, very comfortable beds, ample kitchen, laundry, two bathrooms, Internet access, and a comfortable open living area.

The pond is stocked with fish, and there's a row-boat and fishing rods for those who want a few quiet hours waiting for a nibble. There's comfy seating on the deck, and a hammock and swing-set in the yard on the other end of the foot-bridge over the pond.

Angela and Dan are both very friendly and accommodating, and won't bother you during your stay.

The only down-sides are that it's a little tricky to find, being on a gravel road that doesn't show on some GPS apps/maps, and the surrounding properties are not very pretty to look at. None of this matters when you're at the house however, as it's got lots of privacy with all the large trees around, and feels very private and secluded in spite of being very close to town.

Overall we would definitely stay here again.

PERFECT accommodation!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I brought our 8-month old daughter and 8-year old lab to Orcas for a long weekend (our first family getaway), and we could not have been happier with Our Place. We both spent a lot of time on Orcas when we were younger, but had not been back to the island for many years. This was the PERFECT rental for us - quite and private and beautiful, wonderfully welcoming, with lots to explore and the sweetest owners. I can't thank Angie enough for opening her home to us, and making herself available to answer questions and offer advice. Unlike many VRBO rentals, Our Place is exactly as described - very private, with tons of room for our dog to roam off leash, and so peaceful! It was still a little cool (late March) to use the pond for swimming, but we fed the fishies and watched the local herons scope out the buffet. We had plenty of room to rest and play in the house itself (which is just lovely, and very well-appointed - comfy beds, full size dining table, two full baths, etc.). It was easy to feel at home here. I'm sure people say this all the time, but we will absolutely be back. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Peaceful, comfortable cabin.

  • 4 of 5

We (six adults and a dog) had a lovely relaxing few days here. The cabin is delightful, well equipped and very comfortable. It is fairly centrally located on the island so it is close to things but feels like the middle of nowhere. Highly recommended!
