About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Cabin On 5 Acres In Natural Forest

Welcome to our “Cabin in the Woods” located on five rural acres in beautiful Divide, Colorado!

This cabin can comfortably sleep 4 adults & 3 children or up to a maximum of 5 adults (adults or larger teens.)

From the moment you enter through the secure iron gate and drive down the winding driveway to the cabin the peace and tranquility of the area will settle upon you like a blanket. The gentle wind blowing through the grove of Aspens and fir trees whispers a sweet “Velkommen”!

I was born and raised in Hammerfest, Norway, known as the northernmost town in the world! There the winters were long, dark and extremely cold. The summers were short, lasting perhaps 4-6 weeks, but balmy and brightened by the Midnight Sun. After immigrating to the United States I missed the mountains and scenery of my homeland, which is why I love living in Colorado so much! The majestic views of Pikes Peak and the Rockies remind me of my childhood home.

When you enter our cabin you will notice the beautiful natural hickory hardwood floors on the main level as well as rustic décor and touches throughout. The living area has a comfortable leather recliner/rocker and sofa. There is a 46” HD flat screen TV and cable programming offered by DirecTV as well as a Blue Ray DVD player. Enjoy a cozy fire in the convenient gas fireplace.

The dining table seats six people when the extra leaf is used. Additional seating is provided by four barstools at the kitchen counter.

The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glassware, flatware, pots & pans, etc. Besides the glass top electric stove, refrigerator and dishwasher you will also find smaller appliances such as a hand mixer, waffle iron, blender, rice cooker and coffee maker.

The master bedroom is located on the main level and features a comfortable king-sized bed. There is a 40” HD flat screen TV with DVD player in this bedroom for your enjoyment.

The full bathroom on the main floor is located just outside of the master bedroom and offers a tub/shower combination, sink vanity and toilet. Just beyond the bathroom is a laundry closet where a full-sized washer and dryer are available for your convenience.

Upstairs you will find the second bedroom, which features a queen-sized bed. Also located on the upper level, the third bedroom has the capacity to sleep three people in the twin bunk beds and additional twin sized bed. The bathroom on the upper level has a shower, sink vanity and toilet.

All bedrooms are furnished with quality linens and bedding and the bathrooms are stocked with soft bath towels, hand towels and washcloths. Each bathroom has a hair dryer provided, and you will find an iron & ironing board in the laundry closet.

Outside there is a spacious wrap around deck where you can enjoy your meals “al fresco” or your morning coffee while soaking in the beauty of the natural surroundings. There is a propane grill on the deck for your use if you wish to grill your dinner.

The cabin is located on 5 acres of forestland covered with mostly Aspen trees, wild flowers and all natural vegetation and tall grasses. Grasses and wildflowers and other "natural" vegetation grow in wild profusion and provide food and shelter for the abundant wildlife in the area. We hope our guests will enjoy the cabin, the natural vegetation and forest life and setting so totally different from life in the city.

There is so much to experience and enjoy at our Cabin in the Woods! The Aspen trees on our acreage remind me so much of my childhood home in Norway. Here my wife and two children take long exciting “nature walks”. We thoroughly love exploring our own land as well as nearby national forest. Wildlife abounds everywhere. We often see deer, some accompanied by their newborn fawns. There are elk, foxes, rabbits and occasionally we might see a mother bear with her cubs! Majestic eagles soar, as well as hawks, owls, songbirds and humming birds.

You will be within easy distance of many attractions in and around Colorado Springs, the old historic Cripple Creek, the majestic 14.115 ft. Pikes Peak and enjoy fishing in crystal clear mountain lakes and streams. I once took the cogwheel train from Manitou Springs up to the dizzying heights of Pikes Peak, where Katharine Lee Bates in 1893 received her inspiration to write the song America the Beautiful. You can also drive to the top of the mountain for a modest fee - that is if you are not too faint of heart!

Finally toward evening as the glorious Colorado sun sets, come home to your Cabin in the Woods and enjoy a family meal on the spacious deck. Here feel the cooling breezes of approaching evening rustling the leaves of the Aspen trees, watch families of deer come close to your private gathering, and watch hummingbirds hovering close and hear song birds serenade. Be sure to have your camera ready. You might just get pictures you will treasure for years to come.

Our children (7 and 4 years old) cavort outdoors from early till late. They catch butterflies, pick wildflowers for their mom and wonder in amazement over dragonflies, grasshoppers, caterpillars, huge tiger moths, and smaller moths and butterflies with wings of every hue. This last summer they found many bird’s nests, including a humming bird nest with the mother bird tending her tiny eggs. Many educational hours were spent spying on hatching birds, bunny babies and other wild creatures!

If you enjoy unspoiled nature, fresh mountain air, privacy and a chance to “get away from it all”, this is the place for you!

About Shannon

Norway is my native country. I was born and raised in Hammerfest, Norway, known as the northernmost town in the world! My favorite pastime was skiing in the winter and trout and salmon fishing in the brief summers.

I came to the USA as a teenage emigrant, crossing the border at a check point between the USA and Canada Christmas eve 1957. I consider that the best Christmas gift I ever received!

For many years I lived in the flatlands but always dreaming of being able to make my home in Colorado. The opportunity came in 1977 when I came to Denver to do graduate studies.

Shannon purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Shannon chose South Central

My wife and I first bought mountain property at Grand Lake, CO near Winter Park. How we loved and enjoyed our weekends and summers at that place! However, after several years in Grand Lake we decided to migrate south…about 150 miles. So we purchased Cabin in the Woods in Divide, Colorado on 5 acres of aspen, evergreens and a meadow covered in wildflowers.

Part of the reason we bought Cabin in the Woods is its proximity to many attractions in and around Colorado Springs, historic Cripple Creek, majestic Pikes Peak and fishing in crystal clear lakes and streams.

What makes this cabin unique

There is so much for us to experience and enjoy here! The aspen trees remind me of my childhood home in Norway. My wife and two children take long exciting “nature walks”. exploring our own land as well as nearby national forest. Wildlife abounds everywhere. There are deer, some accompanied by their newborn fawns. We see elk, foxes, bunnies and occasionally a mother bear with her cubs! Majestic eagles soar, along with hawks, owls, songbirds, and humming birds.

Our children, - 7 and 4 years old love to cavort outdoors from early till late. They catch butterflies, pick wildflowers for their mom and wonder in amazement over dragonflies, grasshoppers, caterpillars, huge tiger moths and butterflies with wings of every hue.

We know that you will love our Cabin in the Woods as much as my family and I!

Very nice and clean. Enjoyed our time there.

  • 5 of 5

Property is very nice. Saw mule deer a few times grazing thru the property. Did not use the third bedroom or cook much. Did a lot of day trips. Good location for us. Noticed the big glass window to the right of the front door has a bad seal and should be replaced. Has moisture between the glass. Receptacle on first floor bath was not working for hair dryer. Aside from that, we had a great time and enjoyed it.

Lovely Mountain Cabin Experience

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cabin; we had a lovely experience. It is a very "considerate" property - there are lots of nice extras provided, from coffee to a great fireplace, to lots of kitchen appliances, lovely linens, extra blankets, and the heat was even turned up when we arrived. It snowed during our stay, and the property manager had the lane plowed for us. There was a snow shovel, broom, and ice melt left for us as well.

The directions and communication before and during our stay were perfect, and we appreciated the large "how to" manual left in the cabin. Everything worked fine - the WiFi, dishwasher, hot water, etc. The property inside and out was very clean and easy to live in. We had no trouble identifying the property boundaries and never saw a neighbor. The road is fairly close, but not well traveled, and you can't hear traffic at all (other than the snow plow, which we were grateful for). The cabin is the perfect blend of remote with easy access to town.

I loved, loved the daily visits from the deer family. We named them and looked forward to seeing them every afternoon. Coming from a busy city life, it was just a lovely retreat in nature. We can't wait to go back!

White Christmas in Divide

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a wonderfully decorated cabin for Christmas...Christmas tree and all!

There was snow on the ground which had been "plowed" for us, a snow shovel, a broom & bucket of ice melt for our convenience. We were able to locate everything but had trouble figuring out the gas fire place...the manager & homeowner came to our rescue promptly and graciously!!

The cabin is a nice size and has comfy sofas to sit back and enjoy the beautiful views. We appreciated the up/down blinds so we could block the sun while watching for the deer to come by. This cabin easily accommodates 2 couples and more.

We appreciated the ability to bring along our 2 little dogs with the owners permission and found plenty of room for their kennel.

The highlight of our stay was waking to fresh snow Christmas morning and deer coming by daily to visit.

The cabin is right off a paved well traveled road but since the cabin sits back among the aspens, it feels very private.

Thank you for sharing the cabin!!

Just the right size for 4 people.

  • 5 of 5

The five acre lot size provides a quiet place to be. The town of Divide is just minutes away. All utilities functioned well. The best part - it felt like a home away from home.
