About Michael Lucent

Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: Michael & Donna were young childhood sweethearts and then parted ways shortly after high school graduation. They each led separate lives until a mere 25 years later Michael ran into Donna; and their romance started right up where it left off! They shortly married and honeymooned in the Finger Lakes. After visiting some wineries, Donna & Michael decided this would be the perfect 'New Way of Life,' running a winery together. They figured working together would be a fabulous way to make up for lost time! In 2000 they bought the winery property, and turned their life's mission into learning how to start a winery---Michael was already an accomplished winemaker for the past 25 years. Fast forward to 2008 the Pompous Ass Winery opened. Both Michael & Donna are whimsical; which they wanted to portray in their theme. As you can see the picture above, they are posing with 'Sir Jackson' the handsome character also known as 'The Pompous Ass.'

Michael Lucent purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Michael Lucent chose New York

Last year in 2011, two house flanking either side of the winery property we put up for sale. Michael & Donna decided to purchase both to protect their investment; which now begs the question as what to do with these two houses? After some deliberation, they decided to renovate and use them for weekly rentals; after all, they live in a tourist area and they are located right on the Seneca Lake Wine trail. Every detail was by their design, having the importance of both convenience and comfort as their top priory. A house fit for a pompous ass was their motto; which is why they lovingly named the houses,' Jackie A's Cottage' and the 'Sir Jackson House.'

What makes this cottage unique

This Cottage is perfectly located right on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, on the west side of the lake.

This house has everything a family of 4 or 2 couples could ever need to enjoy a Finger lakes get away. It has air conditioning in every room, central hot air heat, plenty of hot water, a state of the art water purification and softening system.

Beautifully furnishes through out and newly refinished hardwood floors.

There is a large covered deck in the back of the cottage to enjoy cookouts, fun and relaxation.

Cute, clean cottage in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a perfect size for our family of four including our two children ages 10 and 5 yrs. It was clean and spacious and had a nice sized yard in the back with a covered deck and a grill for enjoying meals outside. The location next to Lake Seneca was perfect for hitting some of the top wineries in the Finger Lakes and Watkins Glen town and State Park was just a few miles south. Great restaurants in town and hiking at the park was amazing. Driving over to Ithaca and visiting Lake Cayuga was only 30 minutes away and the beautiful scenery made driving a pleasure. We had such an amazing time hiking at Watkins Glen, Robert Treman and Buttermilk Falls. Had some wonderful lunches at restaurants along Lake Seneca. My wife and I loved visiting the wineries and the kids loved all the ice cream places of which most featured homemade ice cream since so many dairy farms around. We also visited Shtayburne Farm just down the road from the cottage. Great homemade cheeses, jams, hot sauces and more. Also visited a couple of other farms featuring homemade cheeses. Wonderful stay in the Finger Lakes and Jackie O's cottage was a great place at a very reasonable price. For the record, I thought the TV had plenty of channels though I wasn't there to watch much TV. We enjoyed playing board games with our kids at night and to get away from TV and electronics. My only gripe was that the pillows weren't soft but for those that like firm pillows you'll love them!

nice cottage! incredible potential!

  • 3 of 5

This is a nice cottage. As the owner states it has been recently remodeled and the décor is cute and functional. I've never been one to speak anything but the truth so I will do so here.

Pro: 1)as above nice cottage. 2)the kitchen is well equipped and very nice! 3)the beds are comfortable. 4)the location is quite good. 5)there was good off street parking. 6)awesome gas grill! 7)nice deck out back. 8)window A/Cs worked very well. 9) internet worked good. 9.5) inside was mostly clean.

Con: 1)Property unkempt outside- front and back yards both needed mowed and weeds were overgrown in the front and back. 2)this is the first VRBO place I've stayed at that- the owner did not personally greet and/ or thank me, 2a)did not have a quality cable service (this one would have suited some but not me and I know what some will say "were you there to watch TV?") I would have just liked to catch up on news (no CNN, Fox News or MSNBC)or watch a baseball game when I returned from the day's activities and I struggled to do either as all of those channels were not available. Many channels were merely duplicates of others(American Ninja was on at least 4 channels on Saturday night) and there were an incredible number of religious channels. 3)the inside was mostly clean but appeared to have not been cleaned recently. the rug in the living room was the dirtiest. 4)the bathroom drains were "sewer smelly" indicating a drain/ septic issue. I could only run the sink drain for a moment,, it was the worst. Kitchen drains appeared to be fine. 5)no washer and dryer- all but one of my other VRBO "stays" had one. 6)the owner appeared to not care to communicate much. I tried to say hello at the winery next door with no success. 7)the message about "bodily fluids" in the cottage's rules was tacky at best. the cleaning charge should take care of things like this. 8)no flexibility with the charges- my travelling partner had to cancel in the last few weeks before arrival so I had to cover full price. I am retired and on limited income and a veteran yet I was told that it is very difficult renting these places. and so it goes.

I followed all of the rules and I've tried to be honest and constructive with my review. Cozy Cottage could have been better. I wish Mr. Lucent and his people the best!

Just a little less than...

  • 3 of 5

We arrived and they were nice and let us check in early... the only clock in the whole house needed a batteries. The grass needed mowing, so I called they came and mowed just the back yard... I did some cooking and the kitchen got so hot it was small but closed off from where the AC was... It really needs a fan... the front bedroom where I stayed had cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. There was plastic covering on my mattress and a plastic mattress cover also... It made me itch and kept me awake so I removed the plastic so I could sleep... The shower head was the pits... I like a hand held... they put out one set of towels for us and didn't tell us there were some more in a drawer... In the list of what the house furnished was a washer and drier... We could not find one so we asked and was told that they haven't been installed yet... They had a basement door up stairs without a lock or safety knob... we got one for the baby... We went out to eat the first night but ate in the rest... not really a lot of restaurants to chose from... I hope the things I bought won't go to waist, rubber gloves, paper plates, and a grater for cheese, also some plastic storage containers...
