Overview

About the property

Great place to vist with family & friends or to get away & fish or just relax

Beautiful town-home in a quiet location with a boat slip at your doorstep and sunsets that you will remember for a lifetime. This section will be completed at a later date because I am presently enjoying all those amenities available here at Indigo Reef. I hope you all get an opportunity to visit and for a long time as life doesn't get any better than this. I would live here forever but have 2 grandchildren that live 1 mile from me in Virginia and, at least for the time being, I feel the need to be with them, Cheers... jeff

OK…. Here’s my start at the PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

Villa 46 at Indigo Reef is oriented east / west. The entrance and guest rooms face the east and get the morning sun filtered through the trees with an orchid growing on one of the trees. The deck off the living area and master bedroom face west providing sunsets as beautiful as anywhere on the planet.

The covered parking for Villa 46 is situated directly across from the Villa making loading and unloading as convenient as possible. Additionally, the boat slip for the unit is conveniently located off the back deck. The slip has 110V electricity and fresh water and the fish cleaning station is about 20 feet away. Indigo Reef also provides free ice for your boat to ice down your catch and there are even some nice mangrove snappers hiding in the mangroves on the far side of the channel.

The Villa is close to the pool yet not so close as to be bothered by folks walking to and from the pool. Although Indigo Reef is a quiet and serene setting, Villa 46 has recently added hurricane proof glass for all exterior doors and windows making the unit one of the quietest at Indigo Reef. Charcoal barbecue grills are available near the docks but not so close that smoke and unwanted smells will enter the Villa.

The Villa was professionally decorated so I take no credit for the comfortable furniture or decorative paintings. To make the Villa more user friendly I added a desk because I know some people need to do a little work even when they are on vacation and there is a Bluetooth speakers if you like to listen to music or watch movies on your laptop or cell phone. Secure Wi-Fi is available throughout the Villa and unsecured Wi-Fi is available in the area of the pool.

Regarding entertainment at Villa 46, there is a large, flat screen TV with DVD player in the main living area that offers Comcast cable HD channels. There is also a new 55" flat screen cable TV in the master bedroom and a flat screen TV in the queen bedroom. An under counter radio / CD player with remote is located by the breakfast bar. I love the oldies at 94.3 FM. All bedrooms have alarm clocks but the master and queen bedrooms have a clock radio that can be set for 4 alarms per day and for different days of the week.

I’ve also added a buffet and hutch to Villa 46 to expand the space for dishes, silverware and groceries for those who enjoy eating at home once in a while. The kitchen is fully stocked with a wide variety of pots, pans, cookie sheets, regular and minature muffin tins and a wide variety of miscellaneous kitchen utensils. In 2017 I replaced all the dishes and silverware and added both wooden and crystal salad bowls. And don't miss the wine rack next to the refrigerator with wine and margarita glasses.

There is a unique table in the living area with 4 slide out stools which makes for an excellent game table for family board games should you encounter a few hours of inclement weather. And I've just added a portable corn hole game for times when you'd just like to play outdoors in the back yard. A small but growing selection of books is also provided. In the living area there is a small weather station providing indoor/outdoor temperature humidity and air pressure with a repeater in the master bedroom.

I recently added a wheeled cooler to take to the beach along with a beach umbrella and some beach chairs. A couple of light fishing rods are included with a minimum amount of tackle. And enjoy all the swim noodles on the back deck to use in our large, salt water swimming pool that is heated in the winter and cooled in the summer.. For those that enjoy plants I planted a Meyer Lemon tree, a miniature mango tree and a couple of "Miracle Plants". They are called Miracle Plants because if you eat one of the bright red berries that are about marble size, which don't taste like much, everything you eat or drink for the next 30 minutes will taste sweet... even lemons and vinegar!

Have a great time and I give priority to returning guests so come back often, especially in the fall when the weather is fantastic and things are even more relaxed because the snowbirds have not yet come south.

Cheers, jeff

About Jeff Bliemel

Retired US Air Force Flight Test Project Officer and also retired as the City Engineer from Poquoson, Virginia. Now liviing at my small marina on the Chesapeake Bay in Deltaville, Virginia when I'm not enjoying my home at Indigo Reef .

Jeff Bliemel purchased this townhome in 2011

Why Jeff Bliemel chose Marathon

I initially purchased my home for my personal use and that of my family however after purchasing I was asked if I would honor the existing rentals on the unit. Not wanting to ruin anyone's holiday I agreed and have been enjoying the opportunity to meet new travelers and make new friends ever since. I like to think my home is one of the nicer ones at Indigo Reef because of it's location within the development, decorations and amenities.

What makes this townhome unique

I continue to improve my home because when my 9 and 13 year old grandchildren, who live a mile from me in Virginia, are no longer excited about playing with grandpa, I intend to move here permanently. That will probably be 8 or 9 years from now but I spend as much time as I can in Marathon when the kids are in school. It's one of the most peaceful places to be, especially in the late autumn season.

Family Spring Break

After 10 years of vacationing in Keys, we have stayed in different units at Indigo Reef for the last three years. Jeff's Unit #46 is by far an exceptional townhome that is very well maintained and equipped. In general, Indigo Reef is an outstanding property with meticulous grounds, it is situated on a bay that is great for Kayaking and snorkeling, and it is an easy drive to Key West to fish with the best Captain Charles Donney, Tails2Sails. Fishing is awesome all year long and with over 300 fish that we caught throughout the week, we made great use of the outdoor grills on the property and the freezer was spacious enough to store over 60 lbs. of fish that we took home. Our week was superb! We hope to be able to stay in Unit 46 next time we come.

5 Stars in all categories—Overall, Experience, Property, Value

Thanks,

Lisa

Thanks Lisa, I don't know why VRBO keeps giving you an error message. That has happened before and this way I can't add any stars but hopefully people will read it and see for themselves. Did you use the new stainless BBQ tools in the bottom drawer below the oven? Can't wait to get back myself and will be leaving tomorrow. Cheers, jeff

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review and I look forward to your return. May is a great time to visit Indigo Reef as are Sep through Dec. Good fishing and and less crowded. All the restaurants and activities are still there but with no lines and the water temperature is perfect. Hopefully my fruit trees will start producing fruit for visitors soon. Cheers, jeff

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time Chad. I am spending 3 weeks here now and loving it. The pool is wonderful and the fishing and sunsets are great. Too many things to do and too many good restaurants to visit in such a short time but it keeps everything interesting. I look forward to your family's return. Cheers, jeff

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our accommodations at Indigo Reef #46! There are porches on both levels, both front and back. We spent most of our down-time on the back porch enjoying the water view, wild birds and sunsets. We also enjoyed the pool, which is just steps away. The grounds are very well kept and the Villas are charming. Everything in our unit was plentiful including pots and pans and bowls of all sizes as well as every kind of utensil (this is unusual for a rental), beach towels, a beach umbrella, a Corn Hole Set, and even a full book shelf! The interior is just beautiful and was very comfortable for our family of 6. My youngest son is 11 and was constantly fishing on the docks right out our back door and my oldest son, who is 17, loved working out at the fitness center. Jeff was intent on making our stay a pleasant one. We had correspondence several times prior to our stay and Jeff was willing to answer any questions or concerns. He also was great at providing a list of things to do and places to eat.

We would definitely stay at Indigo Reef #46 again. It was very hard to head home after such a restful and enjoyable vacation.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review Britt. I’m glad you had a great time. I’m here now with my family and enjoying it as well. We too enjoy sitting on the back porch watching the sunset. My grandkids especially like the pool and my grandson also likes to go fishing out back. I do try to keep all sorts of dinnerware, utensils, things to do and odds and ends around because I spend lots of time here myself both with and without the rest of my family so I like to think no one will never be bored. And I’m always happy to pass on information to guests. Chatting with visitors via email, text message or phone makes it easier for me to make suggestions because there are so many choices here in our islands. I look forward to your family’s next visit. Cheers, jeff

Another stay in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Cheers Jeff and Katie

My family and I cannot thank you enough for another excellent stay in indigo reef villa 46.

As always everything was perfect when we arrived and dealing with both of you is always a pleasure.

My mom got to spend her time there with her children, all but one grandchild and her first great-grandson. Her little brother even came down for a few days for his 90th birthday celebration.

These were very special times for our family and me. Thanks again!

This comfortable, warm and very well appointed home with breathtaking sunsets is the perfect place to spend your time in paradise. It is located in best possible location of this wonderful very tasteful gated community; it is close to the pool but far enough away to have such a great view of the lawn, palm trees and sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico. Another nice feature is that your parking spot is right opposite of the kitchen door. This is one of the nicest villas in Indigo Reef complex, it lacks nothing.

It is a perfect location in the keys for doing everything or for just doing nothing but enjoying life.

All you need is flip flops, shorts and sunglasses.

We went swimming everyday, went to Key Colony's Sunset beach park for the Sunday concert, great live music and dancing. Enjoyed going to Castaway Waterfront, Keys Cuisine (Big Pine), Curley’s Coffee, Sweet Savannah's and plenty more....Snorkeling at Sombrero Reef, golf in Key West and cocktails on the porch at sunset. Good times were had! Used the great new beach chairs at Sombrero Beach, and caught fish almost everyday right-out front. We missed walking on the old 7 mile bridge to Pigeon Key, but are happy that it's getting fixed up and will be opened again.

We liked the new plantings and landscaping around your unit and the complex. It is nice being able to walk to stores get most of the things you may need. Perhaps the homeowners association will consider putting in a floating dock in one of the canals to make it easier for people using kayaks and paddle boards in the future.

Thanks again for letting us use your wonderful place.

We all are looking forward to returning next year.

Terry

Owner's Response: Thanks for your glowing comments Terry. I'm so glad you and your family had another wonderful time at my home and I look forward to seeing you the same time next year. I will bring up our suggestion about adding a float to help launch kayaks and paddle boards because this is such a great place for those and it's nice when local vendors deliver. Cheers, jeff

ANOTHER, Great Annual Trip with family and friends!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a beautiful property, spacious home, a Key's island(Marathon) with ALL the amenities you need(From grocery to fast food, and boating supplies to hardware), and of course AWESOME Sunsets(beings this Indigo #46 faces West), then look no further.........

Once again, the owner(Jeff) and his local contact(Katie), have made this annual trip of ours very enjoyable, and the feeling of a 2nd home to us when on vacation for Mini Season every year. I can't THANK Jeff and Katie enough for all that they do in the ease of re-booking this home every year, and making sure things are ready for us upon our arrival(from parking passes to Keys(no pun intended), and the wonderful Welcome basket, to day-to-day needs that we don't have to lug from home). Whenever we had to contact Jeff or Katie leading up to our trip, and/or while we were there(which has been very few times over the past 5 years), they have always been available to answer our questions, or address our needs! It has been a GREAT rental relationship with Jeff and Katie, and we look forward to many more enjoyable years to come! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! =-)

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words Steve. It is always a pleasure to have you and your family visit, I look forward to going down in a couple of weeks to spend Sept and Oct there myself. Hope the weather was good for you and you got managed to round up many lobsters. I had another family come down the beginning of the regular season and they said the got 94 the first 2 days! Hope you also got to enjoy the pool and watch the beautiful sunsets. I must have a million sunset photos and take a few more each night as they always seem different. I look forward to your visit next year and maybe you, your mom and the kids can sneak back in before next mini-lobster season as well. Cheers, jeff
