Great place to vist with family & friends or to get away & fish or just relax
Beautiful town-home in a quiet location with a boat slip at your doorstep and sunsets that you will remember for a lifetime. This section will be completed at a later date because I am presently enjoying all those amenities available here at Indigo Reef. I hope you all get an opportunity to visit and for a long time as life doesn't get any better than this. I would live here forever but have 2 grandchildren that live 1 mile from me in Virginia and, at least for the time being, I feel the need to be with them, Cheers... jeff
OK…. Here’s my start at the PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
Villa 46 at Indigo Reef is oriented east / west. The entrance and guest rooms face the east and get the morning sun filtered through the trees with an orchid growing on one of the trees. The deck off the living area and master bedroom face west providing sunsets as beautiful as anywhere on the planet.
The covered parking for Villa 46 is situated directly across from the Villa making loading and unloading as convenient as possible. Additionally, the boat slip for the unit is conveniently located off the back deck. The slip has 110V electricity and fresh water and the fish cleaning station is about 20 feet away. Indigo Reef also provides free ice for your boat to ice down your catch and there are even some nice mangrove snappers hiding in the mangroves on the far side of the channel.
The Villa is close to the pool yet not so close as to be bothered by folks walking to and from the pool. Although Indigo Reef is a quiet and serene setting, Villa 46 has recently added hurricane proof glass for all exterior doors and windows making the unit one of the quietest at Indigo Reef. Charcoal barbecue grills are available near the docks but not so close that smoke and unwanted smells will enter the Villa.
The Villa was professionally decorated so I take no credit for the comfortable furniture or decorative paintings. To make the Villa more user friendly I added a desk because I know some people need to do a little work even when they are on vacation and there is a Bluetooth speakers if you like to listen to music or watch movies on your laptop or cell phone. Secure Wi-Fi is available throughout the Villa and unsecured Wi-Fi is available in the area of the pool.
Regarding entertainment at Villa 46, there is a large, flat screen TV with DVD player in the main living area that offers Comcast cable HD channels. There is also a new 55" flat screen cable TV in the master bedroom and a flat screen TV in the queen bedroom. An under counter radio / CD player with remote is located by the breakfast bar. I love the oldies at 94.3 FM. All bedrooms have alarm clocks but the master and queen bedrooms have a clock radio that can be set for 4 alarms per day and for different days of the week.
I’ve also added a buffet and hutch to Villa 46 to expand the space for dishes, silverware and groceries for those who enjoy eating at home once in a while. The kitchen is fully stocked with a wide variety of pots, pans, cookie sheets, regular and minature muffin tins and a wide variety of miscellaneous kitchen utensils. In 2017 I replaced all the dishes and silverware and added both wooden and crystal salad bowls. And don't miss the wine rack next to the refrigerator with wine and margarita glasses.
There is a unique table in the living area with 4 slide out stools which makes for an excellent game table for family board games should you encounter a few hours of inclement weather. And I've just added a portable corn hole game for times when you'd just like to play outdoors in the back yard. A small but growing selection of books is also provided. In the living area there is a small weather station providing indoor/outdoor temperature humidity and air pressure with a repeater in the master bedroom.
I recently added a wheeled cooler to take to the beach along with a beach umbrella and some beach chairs. A couple of light fishing rods are included with a minimum amount of tackle. And enjoy all the swim noodles on the back deck to use in our large, salt water swimming pool that is heated in the winter and cooled in the summer.. For those that enjoy plants I planted a Meyer Lemon tree, a miniature mango tree and a couple of "Miracle Plants". They are called Miracle Plants because if you eat one of the bright red berries that are about marble size, which don't taste like much, everything you eat or drink for the next 30 minutes will taste sweet... even lemons and vinegar!
Have a great time and I give priority to returning guests so come back often, especially in the fall when the weather is fantastic and things are even more relaxed because the snowbirds have not yet come south.

About Jeff Bliemel
Retired US Air Force Flight Test Project Officer and also retired as the City Engineer from Poquoson, Virginia. Now liviing at my small marina on the Chesapeake Bay in Deltaville, Virginia when I'm not enjoying my home at Indigo Reef .
Jeff Bliemel purchased this Townhome in 2011
Why Jeff Bliemel chose Indigo Reef Marina Homes
I initially purchased my home for my personal use and that of my family however after purchasing I was asked if I would honor the existing rentals on the unit. Not wanting to ruin anyone's holiday I agreed and have been enjoying the opportunity to meet new travelers and make new friends ever since. I like to think my home is one of the nicer ones at Indigo Reef because of it's location within the development, decorations and amenities.
What makes this Townhome unique
I continue to improve my home because when my 9 and 13 year old grandchildren, who live a mile from me in Virginia, are no longer excited about playing with grandpa, I intend to move here permanently. That will probably be 8 or 9 years from now but I spend as much time as I can in Marathon when the kids are in school. It's one of the most peaceful places to be, especially in the late autumn season.

The most relaxing place on the planet yet close enough to all the activities the Keys have to offer from John Pennekamp in Key Largo to all the fun in Key West. Not the cheapest but the best villa in the development. Great recommendations for the best local restaurants if you want to enjoy eating out and a kitchen full of cooking utensils if you want to cook and bake at home plus added hutch and buffet so that there is enough room to store food in the cabinets rather than just stack them on the counter top. Can't wait to return every year.
Glad you had a great time. I look forward to your return each year. they just keep getting better don't they. I'll be there for a few weeks starting next week and will update my little book on suggested restaurants and activities. Things are so much better than they were after the storm 6 months ago. Almost back to normal with lots of improvements.
Indigo Reef #46
First Jeff Biemel the owner was amazing; he went out of his way to provide details in a timely manner about everything including the villa, activities, dining, fishing and he also kept me up to date on post Irma impacts to Indigo Reef which were minor. The unit itself was perfect including the bedding, kitchen utensils, and little things like coolers, chairs, and the umbrella for the beach.
Thanks for the kind words Jeff. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and will turn it into an annual event. I try to keep up with everything and I look forward to spending January there myself. I hope you managed to get out and catch lots of interesting and tasty fish. I actually enjoy informing guests about all our wonderful restaurants and activities and am happy to respond via phone, text message or email to any questions one may have about my home, Indigo Reef, Marathon or the Keys. If I don't know the answer, my on-site manager Katie Ullrich, who has lived in Marathon her whole life, will definitely know. We're glad Irma didn't do much damage at Indigo Reef but it did give us a chance to improve the already wonderful landscaping.
We had a wonderful stay at Indigo Reef! This villa is beautifully decorated and the kitchen had everything we needed. Great boat dockage too, right behind the villa with access to an ice machine and very nice cleaning stations. Watch out for the pelicans! We had one make off with several nice yellowtail we brought home dinner. The kids really enjoyed the heated Pool just steps away from the villa. The views from the back porches are amazing! We spent every morning enjoying coffee and every afternoon with a cocktail on the back porch taking in the wildlife and water views. The grounds are very well maintained. This is a hidden gem in the middle keys! Look forward to coming back soon.
Wow, thanks for the kind words Anna. I'm glad you had a fantastic time so soon after the hurricane. It's a great place to spend a traditional holiday every year.
The Keys and Indigo Reef bounced back very quickly and although some restaurants are no longer there, most are and many have been improved. It's a tough way to do urban renovation but in the end, after spending a lot of effort and money, things are even better than before. I can't wait to spend January down there myself.
I guess you didn't need the new fan on the back deck but it may be handy this summer. Sorry that the pelicans got one of your Yellowtails. Did you try the canal for mangrove snappers? There are some nice ones in there. And did you get a chance to see a few manatees? They are frequent visitors as well.
Glad you liked the kitchen. I try to keep it fully stocked for all kinds of cooking because I usually only eat out when I have guests. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Marathon and the nearby islands but I find cooking and baking at home helps keep my weight down. Glad you liked the way the grounds look. The hurricane did take out a lot of branches from the mahogany trees which have all turned green again but 114 coconut palms all survived. They all got a haircut after the storm but the fronds and coconuts came back quickly.
As far as the salt water pool... that's my grand-kids favorite. Heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. Life is good. Did you get a chance to use any of the coolers, beach chairs beach umbrella or corn hole game? I look forward to your return and, as always, please let me know if there is any way I can make your future visits any better.
Our family really enjoyed this amazing villa. It has an amazing kitchen and well stocked.
The decorations are great and has lots of seating.
The beds and sheets were very comfortable.
The boat slip can be viewed from the porch.
We can't wait to return next year.
Jeff and Katie were great to work with.
Thanks so much for your kind words Stephanie. I look forward to you return and hope you can stay even longer next time. I hope you also got a chance to use the free ice for cooling down catch, etc and also got a chance to use that beautiful saltwater pool. Unlike many other owners, I spend several months a year at my home so I try to have anything and everything anyone could want. And I continue to add and modify things to make it an even more livable place.
Indigo Reef, loved it
Indigo Reef was exactly what we expected. Great place to stay. Our unit was very well finished and comfortable. The boat dock was terrific and the pool was the best.
Perfect in every way
Property well maintained and beautifully decorated. All minor needs such as dishwasher soap, FULLY equipped kitchen etc were provided. Pool and boat dockage fantastic. Will definitely return. Thanks Jeff for job well done
Thanks for your review and I look forward to your return. May is a great time to visit Indigo Reef as are Sep through Dec. Good fishing and and less crowded. All the restaurants and activities are still there but with no lines and the water temperature is perfect. Hopefully my fruit trees will start producing fruit for visitors soon.
The Marathon area offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities. A small city of about 12,000 people located on 7 islands halfway between the mainland and Key West we have just about everything you could desire, from an airport to one of 3 hospitals in the Keys. We have numerous restaurants of many types and our local Sombrero Beach is one of the best beaches in the Keys. Several state parks are close by as is the Dolphin Training Center, Turtle Hospital, Theater of the Sea and Hawks Cay. Boat rentals, parasailiing, snorkeling, diving, kyaking, fishing, golf and just relaxing at the pool or on the beach are all waiting for you. It's just a short ride to Key West with all the activities available there with a great miniature golf course on Sumerland Key. Or stop at No Name Pub on Big Pine Key. Have a delightful lunch or dinner and watch all the Key deer on Big Pine or No Name Keys.
