Comfortable, beautiful, well-appointed family friendly historic house on Capitol Hill. Big bonus that all 3 bedrooms have full en suite bathrooms! Plus a half bath on the first floor, which we use all the time, especially with kids and guests. 3 beautiful parks all within 1 block of our house, each with varying amenities from open space to little and big kid play equipment. Our house has lots of natural light, fully upgraded, eat in kitchen, 2 living rooms, patio, AC, new W/D, wifi, satellite tv, etc and close to everything a traveler would want from Capitol Hill: 3 blocks to the US Capitol and National Mall with the Smithsonian museums, 2 blocks to the Capitol South Metro stop, and 2 blocks to a Capitol Bikeshare station.
Use our fully stocked garage with grill, bikes, balls and bats, hockey gear, foosball table, etc. Play right in the alley space or easy walk to parks within eyesight of our house!
Our house is ideal for families with 4-5 year olds or older children (the house is not baby proofed and has open staircases) and mature couples/singles. No parties or young singles in groups.
Super safe location...we are 2 blocks from a US Capitol Police station as well as 3 blocks from the neighborhood Washington DC Metropolitan Police substation. There are constant squad and bike patrols by our house.
Parking pass included in rental...park your car and walk to it all!
We love DC and have lived here since 1998. We moved to the Hill in 2000 and have no regrets! Our 9 year old and 7 year old twins go to the local DCPS school across the park and we enjoy all the amenities of the neighborhood: parks, restaurants, services, Nats games, museums, etc. We have made life long friends here and look forward to years to come living on Capitol Hill!
Heidi Johnson purchased this house in 2012
We recently moved from 3 blocks away to this bigger house to accommodate the kids. We couldn't have picked a better block as we have friendly neighbors, the alley is full of kids and we are close to everything the Hill has to offer. We were drawn to this house because of it's beauty as well as it's functionality and location.
The large alley off the garage has been a big surprise...we didn't realize how often we would use the outdoor space...true city living! We aren't outside more than 10 minutes before another kid shows up to play:) So easy to grab a bike and head out, then come back and park the bikes and enter the house from the patio.
This is a terrific house. Can easily accommodate 2 adults and 3 kids. Very clean and comfortable. It is just a few blocks from the Capital and within easy walking distance of the metro. Neighborhood is safe and there are good restaurants very close by. Would highly recommend !!
We enjoyed our stay during the 4th of July weekend. The home was very well stocked, cozy, and clean. Heidi was always available to help answer any questions and help us coordinate our stay. The boys enjoyed riding the bikes provided. We took them for a ride around the Mall with no issues whatsoever. There is a also a small park around the corner perfect for picnics and running around in a safe environment. The even have a small basketball hoop in the alley and foozball. It was a great time in a great place. Thank Heidi.
Our family of 5 adults enjoyed this lovely, historic home for all of Christmas week 2015. The home is well appointed, very comfortable, and located in a nice, safe neighborhood. (Neighbors even invited us to join them for a glass of wine at their fire pit one evening!) Without a car, the easy access to the Metro station was truly a plus, as was having the east half of the Mall and the funky Barracks Row area within strolling distance. Heidi was available via cell phone during our stay. This was a VRBO experience we would gladly repeat!
We had a wonderful time during our 5-night stay. We arrived the day after Christmas, and Heidi had contacted us on Christmas Eve to make sure we had all the info we needed before we arrived. The 6 of us (a family of 4 with 2 grandparents joining us), all had a bedroom with attached bathroom. The two boys loved the bunk beds and Legos. There are 2 family areas, but we all congregated in the 2nd floor after sightseeing and dinner at nearby restaurants with the lovely view to the street. We ate at 2 restaurants by the Capital South Metro station (5 minute walk), and also had some great fun eating at Barracks Row, which is a nice 5 block walk from the house. Samples from The Sweet Lobby (Foodnetwork Cupcake Wars winner) and dinner at Cafe Belga were highlights. The Barracks Row website with restaurants was quite helpful. We enjoyed our walks to Barracks Row and the metro station with all the holiday lights out, and we felt safe. We had purchased some groceries before we arrived, but we also took advantage of the Yes! Organic market on Barracks Row. It was nice to have a kitchen where we could make picnic lunches to take with us as we walked around all the museums and monuments. Would love to return for another vacation at some point.
We stayed for two weeks and had a fantastic time. The house was just as pictured and there were no surprises. The owners were very accommodating and accessible during our stay. The house was within walking distance to Barracks Row, the Capitol, Eastern Market, and the Nationals Stadium area. Capital South metro was a 5 min walk and provided easy access to the city. The house is located in a very nice neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again!
