You'll stay in a custom built, finely crafted tiny (384 sf + loft) house with high ceilings, large windows and lots of light, even a cupola. Modeled after a nineteenth century Vermont schoolhouse, the design is true to character - from the exposed beams to the square head nails in wide pine flooring - using the best of modern technology - built green with an on-demand water heater, propane heat and high end finishes with IKEA fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom.
Located on a quiet dirt road in the bucolic town of Cabot, your closest neighbors will be the ravens in the red pines, the chickadees in the cedars and a variety of other woodland creatures. Trails around the property will take you to a swimming pond and, another, to a quiet lake where you’ll have the use of two kayaks. The peace and quiet of Vermont’s rural living will restore your spirit and perhaps inspire you in your creative endeavors. You’ll be near some of Vermont’s best biking, hiking and sightseeing areas where a relaxing lifestyle and splendid green mountain vistas provide a backdrop to charming small towns to explore.
We travel much of the year and may or may not be in residence during your visit.
An upstairs space is accessible by circular stairway. The downstairs has a comfy futon, convertible for comfy sleeping.
You'll love being here if you like exploring Vermont's natural beauty - quiet except for the calls of the ravens, the early morning loon cries (the loon couple, surprisingly, makes occasional fly by) and the rushing wind in the maples.
Step out your back door to a private, expansive yard and enjoy all that Vermont has to offer. (A patio will be ready by early July.)

My husband and I spent a long weekend here with our dogs and we had such a wonderful stay. Although it was winter and snowy the beauty of this place must certainly last year round. The schoolhouse had everything we needed, and even things we didn't think to bring with us. We did not make it to the creamery this trip but are looking forward to it next time, but we did manage to stop in at the local bakery where we had the best raspberry "canoes". They were a wonderful taste of summer. We really enjoyed our time here and look forward to visiting again. The local coffee, eggs, bread, butter and of course cheese were a wonderful surprise! Thank you Cynthia for sharing your little piece of Vermont heaven!
I cannot recommend this rental enough! It was beautiful, warm, cozy & inviting. I hope to return with my boyfriend and our dogs for every season of the year. I loved being off the grid for a few days. Thank you so much!
My boyfriend and I had a great time at Cynthia's place. There was an error when we booked and Cynthia was kind enough to let us stay in the bigger house for the same price. Her home is so beautifully decorated and fully stocked with everything you need for a weekend away. She even left bread (the best bread I've ever tasted, butter and farm fresh eggs for us in the refrigerator.
The swimming pond was amazing. It was too chilly out for me to swim but my boyfriend and my dog loved it.
I would definitely recommend staying there for a long weekend away from it all. Just a side note...there is not much to do in Cabot, the town that has restaurants and some cute little shops is Montepellier.
Thanks so much!!!
We loved this place. Very private and remote. Not only was the home clean it was stocked with farm fresh eggs and local coffee. OMG. The coffee!!!!! Will be back in a few months for my birthday.
Perfect place for a quiet, relaxing, fun get away with a couple of friends! We happened to be there on the coldest weekend of the year, but that didn't affect the coziness and warmth of this place! Cynthia was great; leaving plenty of linens, towels, CHEESE and eggs. Definitely bring a few games and activities; cut off from technology, it's a great way to connect! Montpelier was about 35 minutes away with great restaurants and shops. We also had an amazing time at Hill Farmstead Brewery, the Cabot Factory (literally 5 minutes away), and Caledonia distillery.
This is a beautiful location and cool building. Our son loved the fact that it was a school. The house and grounds were immaculate and we appreciated all the small details that were attended to (gate across the loft opening for wandering kids at night, some children's books added to the library, and all the kitchen basics). The upstairs bed is a double, not a queen, which makes it a bit cramped when you have a wee one wanting to hop in at 2am. And, as other folks have mentioned, there is no Verizon cell phone coverage. There is wifi at the house, but only from the street - not from the actual house. So this is really a "get away from it all" sort of location. We wish we had time to take better advantage of the multiple amenities.
