About Sarah Hardman
My husband and I dreamed of the day we could raise our children in the life we grew up in ... down on the farm. Now our four youngsters spend their days playing in the creek, on the rope swing, or with pet chickens/dogs/cats (more to come when we can get the barn built). We want to share the experience of this place with you, especially for those of you coming in to celebrate a special event with your cadet.
Sarah Hardman purchased this Farmhouse in 2013
Why Sarah Hardman chose Monument
By the time guests arrive at our front porch, they don't need any explanation; this property offers great Colorado views, full privacy, and spacious accommodations. It lets us commune with nature from our back door, but is still close enough to quickly get to anywhere we want to go.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Farm life close to the city and area attractions! Backs to mountains and a stream...it doesn't get any better than that!

Nice beautiful home, but...
I admit I doubt that I would ever open my home to strangers during the summer, so I do admire the courage of the owners. But if you are going to charge $500/night some care to details should be given.
The home is said to sleep 14. I don't really see how that would be possible unless you didn't mind sharing a bathroom and maybe even a bed with a not immediate family member. One of our group of 11 slept on a couch which, admittedly, was very comfortable.
I realize that most people don't care to cook on vacation, but if you do, you should bring your own knives if you want sharp ones. The kitchen is well stocked, but not organized. Drawers and cupboards are stuffed full of stuff. As someone who does like to cook, even on vacation, this was my main issue. The kitchen badly needs to be organized and some things trashed--like that skillet with no teflon coating left on it.
If you think, as I did from the pictures, that you would be able to walk to the stream, that won't happen either. There is a cliff and two barbwire fences to cross and I'm not certain it is on the owner's property even.
The deck is beautiful but is put together with nails rather than screws and some of the nails are rising so wear shoes when using it.
From the comments in the guest book, I seem to be the only one who found the home a little disappointing, but if I were the owner I would want to know these things and correct them.
We try to have a fully stocked kitchen for our guests to use. We've had wonderful renters (in the past) which is why we've continued to share our little slice of heaven.
The creek is on our property but we are first and foremost a ranch, not a hotel.
Every bedroom has a connecting bathroom. I'm sorry our floor plan wasn't right for you. Most people renting are family and don't mind sharing bathrooms. We are not a bed and breakfast.
Our deck is wood (not trex) so nails were used. We will make sure they are hammered down properly. Thank you!
Beautiful house beautiful property owned by beautiful people
Sarah and her husband really went above and beyond to make sure that we were accommodated for our stay. We stayed for 5 days with my bridal party and on the 5th day we had a reception in her barn on the property. Although it was just a small reception with under 30 people the property and the house made it feel Grand. My bridal party and I really enjoyed the location and the largeness of the house. It is located so far away from the city and the road that we did not have to worry about disturbing other neighbors or them disturbing us. The master bath was really a great place for us girls to get our hair and makeup done the day of the wedding! The home has got an open airy feeling and great insulation. While the kids went to bed early the adults did not have to worry about disturbing them while we were enjoying the fire pit. The adults in the house really enjoyed the jacuzzi and the pool table/ping pong table . The children really enjoyed the child area in the basement with the built in barn and all of the toys as well as exploring the property. Sarah and her husband also made an exception to allow us to park our motorhome on the property. Which was really relieving for us as we are full-timers and live in a motorhome. We travel across the country and we have pets in our motorhome. So it made it very simple for us to be able to feed and walk them that way we didn't have to ask others to take on that responsibility. Thanks so much Sarah for allowing us to have our reception, park our house, and really make the most of our stay!
Magnificent Property, lots of fun!
We rented the ranch for one week for USAFA graduation. It's location is outstanding. It is 2 miles from Northgate, it is 2 miles from groceries and restaurants. The best is, you don't have to deal with Northgate traffic, it is in Monument.
We had four families all sleep in beds. They all had individual bathrooms. The kitchen is gourmet and the hostess left her spices and dry goods available for us to use. We cooked a lot, it was great. The kitchen has a gourmet refrigerator which is huge! The Gas grill on the deck is great. There is 5 sitting areas for family to congregate in.
The view from the wrapped deck is awesome. You look out on the Mt Herman. If you like to hike, the trailheads are close by. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit at night. We even made s'mors. The property has 8 acres. We played whiffle ball in the front yard!
The pool table and ping pong table were a huge hit. It kept us so busy that we never turned on the television or watched DVDs.
In closing this place rocks. It is beautifully decorated, spacious, and there is a lot of activities that everyone will enjoy. Best of all, the host and hostess were friendly and really made us feel at home!
Charming and Beautiful Home - perfect for a family reunion!
Our family had such a wonderful time at this unique home. First of all, the views through the floor to ceiling windows were breathtaking and our kids had plenty of open spaces to explore. A paradise for city-bound kids who don't normally get to roam free! They had so many activities - from pool to ping pong to video games in the basement to music to playing by the creek - and there was never a dull moment. The adults enjoyed cozying up in front of the wood stove and hanging out in the hot tub. The gourmet kitchen was dreamy too. This house was so spacious and really provided a wonderful environment for family to reunite and bond. Not a single complaint - just a perfect Thanksgiving trip. Thanks to Sarah and family for hosting us so graciously! (oh and the kids absolutely loved the four cats ... and the chickens too....). Highly recommend!!!
Beautiful, Comfortable, Spacious yet Cozy Home Away from Home!
My family of 12 stayed in this fantastic home for a week and we couldn't have had a better stay! Sarah and her family went above and beyond to make their home seem as though it was our own. They were kind enough to even allow us to bring handicap accessiblity items to make things easier for my Mother. We felt right at home.
We had 3 family members in their 70's and the one level ranch home was perfect for them. The only part of the house inaccessible to the wheelchair was the basement and sunken living room. My Mom (in the wheelchair) could sit in the dining room and watch those of us in the sunken living room as we played pool. She didn't have to miss out on anything, and we could have easily taken her down the two steps.
We couldn't have asked for more gracious hosts. Sarah was very quick to answer any questions that we had and was extremely helpful. There was an issue with one appliance and she was super quick to come and resolve the problem. We never were able to get our phones connected to the internet, but the Netflix on the TVs worked just fine.
The house had the feeling of seclusion, but was within minutes of grocery shopping, restaurants and probably one of the nicest Goodwill Stores I've ever seen. We also enjoyed the close proximity to Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, The Airforce Academy and so many other sights. The views from the back decks were Spectacular and we enjoyed seeing the wildlife grazing out behind the house. The family chickens were kind enough to share their eggs with us and were delicious!
I might note that most of the home has brick floors with the exception of the bedrooms. If you are like me and can't go barefooted, then you might want to bring some slippers as the homeowners understandably request that you remove your shoes in the house.
The house was perfect for our large group. It has many window seats and small nooks where you can go to "get away" from everyone to read or relax. There is plenty of room to spread out and we never felt like we were cramped for space. The beds were all comfortable and we had plenty of bed linens. towels and wash cloths. The hot tub was so relaxing in the evenings and I'd guess it would probably hold 6 people. The large refrigerator and freezer were very handy for our large family and we thoroughly enjoyed the well stocked kitchen. I just can't say enough nice things about this home and it's owners!
Thank you Sarah, Nick and Family!
Great setting, peaceful and quite yet very close to all amenities. Large open spaces with smaller more intimate spaces available if you want to get away. The views were amazing. Sarah is a very gracious hostess and very responsive if you have any questions. Strongly recommend.
Country living, next to it all! You can get away from the hustle and still be mere minutes away from everything. Nestled in the middle of a 200+ acre working ranch (Note: the map only shows the location of the mailbox; the house is situated at the end of a 1 mile private drive). Enjoy lounging, barbequing, hiking, cross country skiing, and sledding! Then, get in your car and within 15 minutes enjoy stores, restaurants, the Santa Fe trail, the National Forest trail system, ... and the Air Force Academy! Within 30 minutes you can be at several shopping malls, a major outlet mall, several theatres, Garden of the Gods, and most other Colorado Springs area attractions.
