About Lynn Grimditch Roda
This home was purchased by my parents in the 50's before I was born and both being National Figure Skating Competitors, this was their first home. This Adirondack 'camp' originally could only be reached by boat and consisted of 2 early hunting cabins, the dock & boathouse (those including the 2 original stone fireplaces & wood burning kitchen stove still remain). A labor of love, my parents came up every summer, added & remodeled their home and when having children, extended the dirt road that allowed them (& neighbors) to drive to their homes on the lake. I enjoyed training at the Olympic Arena here in figure skating, as my parents before me had. Brothers enjoyed Water Skiing and trained on Lake Placid. One received 2 Silver Medals in the Olympics in Munich & became World Champion and Record holder in Waterski Jumping. Several summers we had members of the Australian Water Ski Team stay and train at our home. Our family currently lives in the U.S., Canada & the UK and find we cannot come up as much as wish...that is why we decided to extend the opportunity to have others enjoy a place that has meant so much to our family for decades.
Lynn Grimditch Roda purchased this House in 1953
Why Lynn Grimditch Roda chose Lake Placid
Our family is offering our home for others to enjoy as much as we have for decades. It is a magical place with lots to offer rain or shine!
What makes this House unique
For years my parents have been told that their property offers the best views on Lake Placid (we tend to agree)! And unlike properties in other areas of the Lake, nearer the Marina or Lakefront hotels, it is a serene setting. My children love to go out into the forested area on the other side of the boathouse and read in the hammock as the breezes from the lake gently rock them. They also love taking to the water in the boats or swimming off the dock!

Lake Placid is an Olympic Village and seeing the places where the Olympic events took place is fun! Take the Ride up to the Top of the Ski Jumps, Go to the Olympic Arena & see where the 'Miracle on Ice' took place, Drive to the top of Whiteface Mountain and see the views from the top of the whole Lake, or take the ski lift and see the Olympic trails, finally take a ride (yes, even in summer) down the Olympic bobsleigh runs- it's thrilling!! For history buffs, the Town of North Elba, which incorporates the Village of Lake Placid, was home to John Brown, the American Civil War emancipator. He and his sons are buried behind their farm (near the ski jumps) and the homestead is open for tours, offers special events & has walking trails. There is also the Cornell Maple Farm which sells the syrup they gather and offers a look at what it takes to make the sap into the delicious syrup we use at breakfast. Equestrians know the fabulous horse show that happens during June, which are also fun to watch. Trail riding is available south of the Village. Numerous Hiking Trails abound. Tennis courts are available for a fee at Lake Placid Resort & Whiteface Resort. Golf on the many courses is a must for enthusiasts, with Lake Placid Resort offering a links course. The Village has an Arts Center that has performance artists visiting from all over the world and a Sinfonetta that plays weekly in the Center and on one evening a week in the Village Park on Main Street (weather permitting). There are really so many things to see and do - why not come and discover them for yourselves?!!
