Four well appointed bedrooms, two with queens, and two with two singles. One half bath on the main level, one shared hall bath on the second floor, and one full private master bath. The entire home is extremely well appointed and boasts clean, classic lines with colonial furniture while still providing all the modern amenities.
The main floor has gorgeous unobstructed views of the woods that surround the house on three complete sides. A cozy family room boasts a new 47' HDTV with a complete HD channel package. WiFi is also available throughout the home. The family room opens to an open concept kitchen with double oven and newer appliance package and beautiful solid wood cabinets. As avid cooks, we have provided all necessary utensils and equipment for great dinners. The dining room is nestled next to one of two wood burning fire places with a bay window with wood views. The table seats 8 and is a great romantic dinner spot or perfect for games with the family once the plates are cleared away. This opens to a formal living room with the second wood burning fire place for your morning coffee or a late afternoon book. A bedroom with a queen bed finishes off the main floor with coastal decor, great for grandparents and guests.
The second floor has three bedrooms. The first contains two twin beds with a large closet and a great dormer window seat. The second has bunk beds and is great for kids! The third, a gorgeous master bedroom includes a canopy bed with a private full bath and fantastic natural light. Each bedroom includes large closets and coordinated wood bedroom furniture.
The unfinished basement is equipped with a washer and dryer and a large open play space, perfect for four square and other games for the kids. A brand new ping pong table is available for 2014! There is also backyard access from the basement with easy storage of tubes, noodles, beach chairs, and equipment.
A long gravel driveway provides ample parking for 3+ vehicles. The outside of the house provides a fantastic outdoor living space with a huge back deck with full dining set that seats 8. Enjoy a great dinner on the deck while surrounded by nature! A charcoal grill is easily accessible right off the back deck as well as a fantastic outdoor shower. The grassy area behind the home is perfect for wiffle ball tournaments and badminton while the front yard is a perfect place for a quiet cocktail for Mom and Dad!

Bob and I live and work in the greater Philadelphia area, Bob in advertising and myself as an RN and clinical coordinator. We raised four children (three boys and one girl) in the same 140-year old victorian house in Southern New Jersey and now live in Central Bucks County, PA. We absolutely love cooking and spending time in the kitchen as well as enjoying a cocktail on our wrap-around porch or pool-side in the warmer months. Three of our children have settled in the area, two of which are married, with the fourth is living abroad in Japan with his wife. Our family is very close, and we host weekly family dinners, and always gather around our dining room table for holidays and birthdays.
Beth Jacobs purchased this house in 1995
We bought the lot in Chatham in 1994 and construction on our home was completed in 1995 after years of renting on the Cape. As soon as we took the 1/4 mile stroll over the hill and saw the sparkling blue water of Schoolhouse Pond we knew it had to be ours. Our four children grew up spending summers catching tadpoles and frogs at the pond, many firework shows at First Nights on New Years, Thanksgiving feasts, and Easter egg hunts in our home, our eldest was married on the Cape, and our youngest spent her honeymoon here. Dozens of friends and family members have shared memories with us here as well. The house is the perfect mix of seclusion and peace (earning its name as 'Sanctuary') and convenience being only miles from downtown Chatham and local beaches as well as a 1/4 mile from Schoolhouse Pond.
Just completing our second visit in your lovely home!
Perfect weather allowed us some fabulous swimming, whale watching and pond excursions.
We had a once in a life time whale watching trip - about 30 feeding groups for approximately a view of 130 whales in total.. unbelievable! We also took a bi-plane ride over the Cape on a clear morning. Thought it would be pretty scary - but actually very calm with stunning views. Your home is perfect for our three generation family group - close to beaches for wave surfing and the POND for swimming and paddle boarding - so quiet and clear.
My cousin planned a last minute wedding at the Chatham Bars Inn. Rooms there are expensive in general, let alone last minute, so I looked into getting a house for my immediate family. I am very happy I did. We had 8 people and it fit us perfectly. It is only 3 miles from the Chatham Bars Inn, so it was not difficult at all to get to and from the Wedding. The house is clean, comfortable, and set back somewhat for privacy. I would definitely come here again.
We came to the Cape from all over the country for a wedding and it was the perfect house for our mini reunion (7 adults). Great common space in both the living and dining room where we spent hours catching up. While the house is not new, everything was clean and functional. There were plenty of cups/dishes/pots/pans for us to put together a few meals at home. There's no air conditioning in the house, but the house kept cool during the day and we left the windows open at night, which was very comfortable in mid September. We had to bring our own sheets and towels, which was a bit of a pain since several folks were flying into town, but overall, worth the inconvenience.
Also, worth noting for a rental house...the beds (at least the one I slept on) were nice and firm. I have back problems and am always very weary of beds in rental homes as they tend to dip in the middle due to overuse and age. This one was wonderful and I don't think I've slept that well away from my own bed in a long time.
It was a quick walk to the pond where we spend a few hours relaxing and swimming. You really do need to drive to get into town, but it was a short drive and pretty convenient. There's plenty of parking in the driveway as well.
The owners were very helpful and prompt in responses. They were great to work with.
The beauty of staying here is that, doesn't matter how long your journey, is that 2-3 mins walk through the woods is the beautiful Schoolhouse Pond & instant relaxation.
We were a party of 8, basically 6 grown & 2 little kids, who had the best time here, finding the house made a perfect base to explore both the Cape and Nantucket/Martha's (from nearby Harwich Port or Hyannis).
House had everything we wanted and was only 5 minutes from the beautiful town of Chatham with its excellent restaurants, coffee shops etc etc We plan to return to the Cape every second year and will continue to rent Sanctuary for as long as Beth continues to rent it!
Our family would highly recommend this vacation rental! This is the second time that we stayed here with our young children and would definetly return again.
The house is large with separate sitting areas, great out space/yard, and access to the beautiful fresh water School House Pond. The area the house is in is also in walking distance to the bike trail and just a few minutes drive to the ocean or town.
Also, the owners of the home are very helpful and easy to deal with.
Came to Chatham for a wedding. Booked this house with a group of 5 people and it fit us comfortably. Perfect for 2 couples or a family with kids. 2 of the bedrooms have multiple twins. Spacious kitchen that flows into a bright and open living room. Close to town and shops. Would highly recommend!!
We just returned from a weekend at this wonderful home and would highly recommend it! The house was a short drive to Chatham town center as well as the beach yet was privately situated on a cul de sac for a relaxing retreat. The home has a wonderful layout with plenty of amenities - including many fun board games and books for our toddler! The owners were fantastic to work with and the ease of planning our trip was seamless. We would definitely return for a future trip!
Main Street Chatham offers a lot of really nice specialty stores and some great restaurants. Shops include art galleries, clothing stores, gift shops, antiques, music stores, and more. Some of our favorite spots include The Yellow Umbrella (a used and new bookstore), The Candy Manor (a great gourmet candy store with our favorite our the dark chocolate covered pretzels), The Puritan (a beautiful specialty clothing store with quintessential Island wear available), Buffy's Ice Cream (a must on a warm summer night after a dinner out), and
Soft As A Grape (the best spot for good quality Cape Cod and Chatham gear). Of course Cape Cod is world-renowned for its beaches including some of our favorites in Chatham itself include Schoolhouse Pond (right outside our back door, the fresh water is always warm and a great way to relax after a day at the beach or for an entire day), Lighthouse Beach (it sits at the foot of Chatham Light and a great photo op), Harding's Beach (a beach on Nantucket Sound which offers calmer, warmer waters), Ridgevale Beach (another beach located on the Nantucket Sound). Outside of Chatham we enjoy Nauset Beach (located in Orleans and right on the Atlantic Ocean), Cahoon Hollow (an absolute MUST on your visit with stunning dunes and an awesome lunch spot called The Beachcomber), The National Seashore (a National Park which runs from the very northern reaches of the arm of Cape Cod down to Nauset Beach in Orleans). Some other points of interest we love include Chatham Bars Inn (a beautiful old hotel with a fine dining restaurant and a gorgeous spot for afternoon cocktails on the front lawn), The Squire (Chatham's local pub), Chatham A's (our own team part of The Cape Cod Baseball League who play on Veterans Field downtown), the Chatham Fish Pier (where local fisherman bring home their daily catch between 1:00pm and 4:00pm and the seals float around waiting for a snack!) and Shore Road (the most beautiful road in Chatham and a must for a later afternoon drive while the sun is setting).
The places and points of interest mentioned and more are all detailed in the Chatham and Cape Cod guidebooks located in the house. The Cape is a treasure of wonderful family activities and romantic date possibilities and we hope you enjoy your vacation!
