About Beth Jacobs
Bob and I live and work in the greater Philadelphia area, Bob in advertising and myself as an RN and clinical coordinator. We raised four children (three boys and one girl) in the same 140-year old victorian house in Southern New Jersey and now live in Central Bucks County, PA. We absolutely love cooking and spending time in the kitchen as well as enjoying a cocktail on our wrap-around porch or pool-side in the warmer months. Three of our children have settled in the area, two of which are married, with the fourth is living abroad in Japan with his wife. Our family is very close, and we host weekly family dinners, and always gather around our dining room table for holidays and birthdays.
Beth Jacobs purchased this House in 1995
Why Beth Jacobs chose West Chatham
We bought the lot in Chatham in 1994 and construction on our home was completed in 1995 after years of renting on the Cape. As soon as we took the 1/4 mile stroll over the hill and saw the sparkling blue water of Schoolhouse Pond we knew it had to be ours. Our four children grew up spending summers catching tadpoles and frogs at the pond, many firework shows at First Nights on New Years, Thanksgiving feasts, and Easter egg hunts in our home, our eldest was married on the Cape, and our youngest spent her honeymoon here. Dozens of friends and family members have shared memories with us here as well. The house is the perfect mix of seclusion and peace (earning its name as 'Sanctuary') and convenience being only miles from downtown Chatham and local beaches as well as a 1/4 mile from Schoolhouse Pond.

Beautiful Home in Chatham
The home was absolutely perfect for our long weekend while attending out daughters wedding. If I had to describe it in one word it would be "cozy". The house had the feel of a beach house and at the same time felt like we were staying in a converted farmhouse.
Everything was there that we needed which always makes your stay that much more enjoyable. We were minutes away from downtown Chatham which is the prettiest town on Cape Cod.
Perfect fall week-end get-away.
You can rent this property without hesitation. We enjoyed a girls week-end there and, though we didn't do any cooking, found the kitchen clean and well appointed. House is clean and well maintained. Location was perfect . Close to many fine restaurants and some great shops.
Beautiful Home in Perfect Location
The Jacobs were wonderful to work with and quick to reply to all questions and concerns we had! Their home is perfect for a family to stay in as it offers plenty of space, comfortable living areas, and plenty of games! We loved the location of this home since it is close to Chatham's Main Street, but feels very private with the woods surrounding it. The yard is great for kids to run around and play in and the lake behind the house is gorgeous! We would definitely stay here again!
The Sanctuary is the perfect place to stay. Very comfortable for our family of 8. The house is very homey with plenty of room for all. The bedrooms are good size with plenty of closet space. The owners were very helpful with information and the communication was superb. The kitchen has everything you need and plenty of space for cooking and gathering. The backyard is large enough with a nice deck through the French doors in the den. We had a wonderful time. The bike path is right down the street and easily accessible. Route 28 is just down the street, and the center of Chatham is only 7 minutes by car, and 15 minutes or less by bike. This is a perfect location that is just off of the beaten path, but close enough to all attractions. The Chatham Anglers field in only 1.5 miles away and easy to get to enjoy a baseball game. There is easy access to routes that take you to Yarmouth and Provincetown if you want to venture out. The house is located in a quiet area with plenty of parking for several cars. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the property to others.
Wonderful Family Vacation Home
In 2015, after a nine year hiatus from vacationing on Cape Cod we decided we would like to resume this beloved family tradition! Our two daughters were now married and collectively had provided us with three beautiful grandchildren. We were looking for a spacious, comfortable and safe home that would afford us lots of family time! This lovely house was everything we had hoped for and more! We had such a wonderful week, we have returned every summer since, and have already reserved for 2018!
The house is set back from the road providing both privacy and added safety for little ones. The Yard is sprawling and beautiful, providing a perfect space for the kids to play in, and the adults to read and relax in while the little ones nap. Additionally, the Deck provides a great space for outdoor family meals. The interior is spacious and comfortable, with enough bathrooms that no one ever has to wait for a shower! The Kitchen is well equipped, and the Dining Room easily accommodates family meals if we chose to eat indoors. Having two sitting rooms is an added plus! The Family Room is a perfect indoor play space for the kids, while the Living Room provides lovely quiet space for the adults!
The house's location also provides many additional perks! We enjoyed daily walks on a nearby Bike Path. We also took frequent walks to the private Airport located just a block from the house. We never tired of watching those amazing little planes take off and land. But hands down, best of all, is the short walk through the woods to "School House Pond"! This pristine fresh water pond is a perfect place for little kids, (and adults) to swim and play. We have so enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of this private and safe little beach! It is absolutely perfect for families with small children. Of course we also spent time at the Ocean, and there are several wonderful beaches that are located just a short drive from the house. Chatham is a lovely town filled with great shops and restaurants! Driving into town is quick and easy from the house, and we have enjoyed visits to several of the excellent "ice cream shops"!
The owners are wonderful family people, and it has been a joy to interact with them! We are so grateful for the time we have spent at their lovely "Sanctuary" and the wonderful memories this precious time has enabled us to create with our children and grandchildren! We highly recommend renting this lovely home!
Another excellent year at the Jacob's lovely home on the Cape!
This was the second straight year that our extended family spent two weeks at the Jacob's home on the Cape, a delightful base from which to enjoy all that the Cape affords. The four bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, the kitchen/family room/dining room perfect for family get-togethers and the more formal living room perfect for quiet time. There is lots of cross ventilation which keeps the place nice and cool. It is secluded, right in the woods where many bird species, rabbits, wild turkeys and the occasional deer can be seen. Perhaps best of all is the large fresh water pond situated a short walk away through the woods. It is perfect for toddlers (sandy beach) and for anyone wanting a great place to relax in the sun. And, a short walk away is the Chatham airport where you can go for exhilarating small plane rides and have a marvellous brunch at 'Hangar B'. We'll all be back next year - what more can we say?
Main Street Chatham offers a lot of really nice specialty stores and some great restaurants. Shops include art galleries, clothing stores, gift shops, antiques, music stores, and more. Some of our favorite spots include The Yellow Umbrella (a used and new bookstore), The Candy Manor (a great gourmet candy store with our favorite the dark chocolate covered pretzels), The Puritan (a beautiful specialty clothing store with quintessential Island wear available), Buffy's Ice Cream (a must on a warm summer night after a dinner out), and Soft As A Grape (the best spot for good quality Cape Cod and Chatham gear). Of course Cape Cod is world-renowned for its beaches including some of our favorites in Chatham itself include Schoolhouse Pond (right outside our back door, the fresh water is always warm and a great way to relax after a day at the beach or for an entire day), Lighthouse Beach (it sits at the foot of Chatham Light and a great photo op), Harding's Beach (a beach on Nantucket Sound which offers calmer, warmer waters), Ridgevale Beach (another beach located on the Nantucket Sound). Outside of Chatham we enjoy Nauset Beach (located in Orleans and right on the Atlantic Ocean), Cahoon Hollow (an absolute MUST on your visit with stunning dunes and an awesome lunch spot called The Beachcomber), The National Seashore (a National Park which runs from the very northern reaches of the arm of Cape Cod down to Nauset Beach in Orleans). Some other points of interest we love include Chatham Bars Inn (a beautiful old hotel with a fine dining restaurant and a gorgeous spot for afternoon cocktails on the front lawn), The Squire (Chatham's local pub), Chatham A's (our own team part of The Cape Cod Baseball League who play on Veterans Field downtown), the Chatham Fish Pier (where local fisherman bring home their daily catch between 1:00pm and 4:00pm and the seals float around waiting for a snack!) and Shore Road (the most beautiful road in Chatham and a must for a later afternoon drive while the sun is setting). The places and points of interest mentioned and more are all detailed in the Chatham and Cape Cod guidebooks located in the house. The Cape is a treasure of wonderful family activities and romantic date possibilities and we hope you enjoy your vacation! -The Jacobs
