About Jim and Sandy Bay

We came over Dixie Pass, from the east, and bought property that day in 1972, we were so taken with the valley and entire region, and we still are. we own several properties now and are totally here and committed. We also run the John Day Valley Farmers Market every summer.

Jim and Sandy Bay purchased this bungalow in 2014

Why Jim and Sandy Bay chose Eastern Oregon

We wanted to provide a vacation rental in town for those who come to the many fairs and events or just want a good central location that is simple to get to.

What makes this bungalow unique

This Bungalow is right in town and not a big place but totally together and simple. It is a far cry from a motel with a microwave and 150 sq. ft. and reasonably priced for a few people to enjoy together for short visits and events in town. It is air conditioned for summer or winter. Its' recreation room is 16 x 17 ft. and includes the 3rd bed, a queen hide-a-bed with extra padding for comfort. The room has a game table area and games as well as the extra closet as a 3rd room. it is located separately from the main home across the patio from its back door.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jane. We hope the coffee was right for you too. We do our best to keep up with things in the busy summers. We enjoy having our 6 places and being the house keepers. Wonderful property and convenient to downtown John Day

  • 5 of 5

We found everything we needed for our week long stay in this little bungalow. It was very neat and clean and had every amenity we could want. It was in walking distance from Main Street with choices for dining as well as a fully equipped kitchen if you chose to cook. It was very quiet with great internet and TV connections. We will definitely consider staying again on our next trip to John Day. Jim and Sandy were very accommodating. Thank you so much.

Bungelow house

  • 4 of 5

The home is very nice and quiet. We enjoyed our stay very much. There were 6 of us.

negative comments were that the bed in the little house is very uncomfortable, and

the hid a bed that my son used was really uncomfortable.

Otherwise everything else was splendid

Comfy, everything you need

  • 5 of 5

My husband stayed in the Bungalow for 7 weeks during a work detail in John Day. The owners were gracious and very easy to work with. I am not sure if such a long stay is usual for them, but they accommodated his needs for the extended rental.

The Bungalow was clean and well appointed with lots of cooking utensils and pans and even spices. He only needed his groceries. The kitchen cupboards are beautiful and the granite countertops and sink are beautiful. It was too cold for the outside private patio but looked lovely.

Lots of towels and the bathroom although tiny was clean and the shower head awesome.

The beds were comfy and the house was warm and cozy with the heaters in the house. The Wifi worked and the TV options were nice.

We walked the 3 blocks to downtown and even up to the Snafflebit for dinner. The John Day River is an easy walk and we had a great loop. We spent lots of time exploring all that the John Day Valley and Strawberry Mountains have to offer. Easy drive to the Fossil Beds, Painted Hills and beyond with lots of hiking and biking opportunities.

We would highly recommend this location. The covered parking was nice. I think 6 people would be cramped especially with the small bathroom.

Comfy Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a wonderful 4 days exploring the John Day area. We visited the Fossil Beds, Kam Wah Chung Museum and hiked to the peak of Strawberry Mountain. What a unique and beautiful area of Oregon. The house was centrally located for our adventures. It was perfect for relaxing in the evenings. The kitchen was well stocked. Our bed was comfortable. The wi-fi worked. The location was quiet. Next time we are in the John Day area, we will definitely stay here again.
