About Richard Mahn/Timothy Mahn
We have enjoyed a wonderful life travelling ALL 50 States, most of the Canadian Provinces, and several Central and South American countries. Of all the places we have been, we love our home in Georgia, which is in the woods on a private lake. BUT we have also enjoyed the beaches/coastline whenever we could. Growing up in Washington State, many times we went to the cold, but beautiful, Pacific Beaches. Now we enjoy visiting the warm, Gulf 'coast' beaches, and what better way then on an Island. We were introduced to island rentals years ago, and ultimately buying a second home near a beach led us to Dauphin Island with both beaches and many activities while here. We have been able to share it with ourselves and others for the last 9 years and wish to do so again via this rental venue. We hope, whoever you are, that you will enjoy all that this home and Dauphin Island have to offer, as we have done.
Richard Mahn/Timothy Mahn purchased this House in 2005
Why Richard Mahn/Timothy Mahn chose Silver Cay
When we decided on Dauphin Island we looked at many homes that were available at the time. (Our sales agent was very patient.) We ended up with this one because of the Great Room entrance, the ability to have camaraderie with everyone, whether in the kitchen, living room, dining room, or reading area, as all of this was so open and spacious. The bedrooms are located in the 'back' of the house, so one can have 'Peace At The Beach' when activities settle down for the night. However, before you go to bed, we hope you have sat on the front porch to enjoy the water views and the beautiful Dauphin Island sunset. Another thing that I really enjoy is getting up in the middle of the night and going out on the porch in the quiet, light breeze to view the startling bright moonlight when there is a full moon. I have taken many close-up pictures of it over the years that we have been coming here.
What makes this House unique
Dauphin Island is not just an Island, but it is a town of ~1,300 year-round residents plus another 2,000 'part-time' residents, like ourselves, who come here on a regular basis. Dauphin Island has all of the basic services, activities, and points of interest as any other city. If that is not sufficient, then Mobile is less than an hour away with all of the 'big city' services you could want, including Tillman's Corner, which is on the north end of the Dauphin Island Parkway (Highway 193). However, to us the main emphasis for this location is in the name that we gave it: 'Peace At The Beach', which is what it represents to us and for you the visitor to the island. We hope that you would find the same Peace and Happiness that we have enjoyed coming here. Another important aspect of Dauphin Island is for the Christian traveler. Dauphin Island has a variety of churches: Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, and Catholic. We have found Dauphin Island Baptist Church to be a welcoming and scripturally sound church with a well-spoken Minister and his young family who live on the island nearby.

Great location. Clean and well supplied.
This was a great location for enjoying the Gulf Beach and exploring the bay side. The home was clean and had plenty of supplies. Silver Cay is a beautiful neighborhood. We met so many great people here. It was a wonderful Spring Break.
Beautiful & Well Maintained
This beach house was perfect for our stay on Dauphin Island. The weather was a bit cool and rainy but that didn't put a damper on our time at this lovely home. There is tons of room in the kitchen and living areas and the bedrooms were very spacious. The decor is perfect!
For us, the only negative was the distance from the beach. Since it wasn't warm enough to sit out on the beach, we didn't really get to see and enjoy the ocean and sand at all. However, I knew it was not a beachfront property when I reserved it. That said, the real surprise was being able to "see" water in three directions from the front of the house. That almost made up for not getting to dig my toes in the sand!
All things considered, this was a wonderful place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our time away with family at this lovely home.
Great views of the bay and clean inviting beach house.
We had great time on the island despite the cold weather we found plenty to do. Locals were friendly and helpful everywhere we went. The house was peaceful, clean and we would definitely stay again.
Felt Like Home Right Away
Going to return next year so that says a lot. Lucked out that February 2018 was the warmest on record (sometimes global warming is a good thing). Mardi Gras parades were fun, people on the island are friendly. Hopefully they will get the beaches on the West End restored and there isn't any hurricane damage this season. This house comes equipped with everything you could need. Very comfy. Nice to have that empty lot next to it for the dogs. Only bad experience I had was a fishing captain cancelled our charter at the last minute. Did catch some fish from the shore though.
Relax with the family members you love best! Your DOG!
Everything was there except food. Clean, relaxing atmosphere! Not on the beach but close enough to view, hear & enjoy. Extremely short walk to the beach on either side of the home. Communication with the owners was outstanding. Quick response to any questions & made sure any information I might need I got. A storm had came through, so there was a checkpoint before you could come in; Mr. Mann made sure we knew what we would need at the checkpoint so we could get through quickly. Absolutely LOVED our vacation, looking forward to renting it another time. Hopefully for a whole week!
Many Thanks Mahn Family!
We loved staying at this beach house!! We definitely found Peace At The Beach and on Dauphin Island. We know now why some call the island The Sunset Capital Of The World!!
The activities for Dauphin Island include: 1. The Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, which includes water life from the Bayous to the Gulf of Mexico; 2. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary, a beautiful wooded area which includes a well-maintained walking path all the way to the beach and a small lake with its own alligator; 3. The Indian Shell Mounds, which is also a bird-watching area; 4. Historic Ft. Gaines, the construction of which started in 1821 and whose preservation has continued through the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, the Battle of Mobile Bay to today with many reenactments during the year; 5. The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, which provides Fishing Licenses and Tide Calendars; 6. The Bellingrath Gardens (~16 miles away), which is a beautiful, formal Botanical Garden, with year-around flowers and decorations and a special Light Display during the Christmas Holiday; 7. The 'grand old' Battleship USS Alabama (~38 miles), which has tours daily and commonly entertains all kinds people groups, especially school-age children; and 8. The Lighthouse Bakery, which has the most delicious Cinnamon Rolls (and other goodies).
