About the property

We are a young couple (well, at least we FEEL young!) Appalachian State Alumni, who have learned that through hard work and determination, anyone can accomplish anything...like owning this Mtn Log Cabin! We love opening our home to other families who enjoy the mountains and spending time together as much as we do.

Tara Ledbetter purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Tara Ledbetter chose East

We chose this property because it has the WOW factor. You'll see when you get here. After seeing 20+ other homes, as soon as we walked in we said WOW. The rest is history and to share with you..

What makes this cabin unique

Too much to list but the special features of this property are that it is so large and spacious and each bedroom has it's own walk in closet and own private bath, 2 hot tubs (so adults can relax in one and kids on the other, on separate deck levels), beautiful sunset views and regular visits from bears/turkey/wildlife yet ONLY 5 mins to downtown Gatlinburg !!

A Small Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Moonshine Ridge for a family vacation earlier this year. From the moment we drove up (and as warned, the drive up the mountain is a little nerve wracking the first few times!), I fell in love. The cabin's location can not be beat-the views were BREATHTAKING! It was comfortable, clean, and better than we had imagined. There was plenty of room for everyone, and we had a large group of 11. We especially enjoyed being able to show our children how beautiful the mountains are, and they loved being out on the decks. At night, we were able to enjoy the hot tubs. We spent 5 days with our family, and it was 5 days that we will never forget. On our final night, a pair of black bears paid us a visit and we were able to watch them from the top deck. It was the perfect ending to what was easily our most memorable trip.

With the recent fires in Gatlinburg, I pray that this beautiful home was not lost to the flames.

Just as we expected

  • 4 of 5

My brother and sisters wanted to do something special for our mother’s 80th birthday. Her wish was for us all to visit The Great Smoky Mountain National Park together. Moonshine Ridge was the perfect place to accommodate all of us. It was just as described and even better. Two things I can think of that were not described -first: the chorus we got to listen to each night out on the deck of the local forest inhabitants and second: the close proximity to one of the most scenic drives through the park. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail exits right near the cabin. We all had a great time and even got a visit from the local bears twice. We did have an issue when the first of our group arrived and was unable to gain entry to the cabin. The code wasn’t working and when we called the number for help we were told we were at the wrong cabin. We assured the manager that we were not at the wrong cabin and finally, after 2 or so hours of calling back and forth trying several different access codes, we were finally given a code that unlocked the door. Soon after gaining access to the cabin, a maintenance man showed up and made sure that the code we created for ourselves was working. I wish that the first person we notified of the problem hadn’t written our problem off to “our mistake” instead of sending someone immediately to fix the door lock. In spite of this rocky start, I would still recommend this property.

My husband & I were part of this group. We noticed a few things about our bedroom that weren't done.

Blinds/ceiling fan not dusted

Vacuuming around baseboards (there were dead bugs & spider webs)

Also, there were stains/holes in bathroom towels.

Despite these issues we really enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We are so glad you enjoyed these extra amenities. We also love the bear family that is at this cabin. I recall this situation very vividly since I worked tirelessly as you said for almost 2 hours to assist your elderly mother with gaining access to the cabin. Only to discover that she was indeed at the wrong cabin. I also enlisted the help of my sister who owns this cabin and she also discovered that your mother was at the wrong location until you arrived to help her. But after two hours of trying to assist her at the wrong location which was why she was unable to gain entry we decided to send our maintenance crew out to find her. By the time they arrived your other family members had arrived and you were all now at the correct cabin. We encourage all our guests to use the specific directions and driving instructions that we email before your arrival date. You cannot rely on GPS in the mountainous terrain of Eastern Tennessee. The elderly lady (your mother) I communicated with for those 2 hours did tell me the name and a description of the cabin she was at and it was indeed NOT OUR CABIN. I apologize that it took me 2 hours to figure out what the issue was. I reset the door code for her several times and also spent 2 hours of my time trying to assist her. In addition your mother arrived to the cabin at 1:08pm which is 2 hours before our allowed check in time so I had to reset her code to allow for the early arrival which was not discussed or approved by us. Only to find out that she was at the wrong location. We have definitely learned from this experience to make sure if a guests calls about a door code not working that we verify they are at the correct location. We hope you also gained insight from this experience for future visits to the area. We have addressed the cleaning issues with our crew and replaced the towels. Although it is a log cabin in the woods and at times insects and bugs do find there way inside.

Awesome cabin

  • 5 of 5

Moonshine Ridge was a beautiful, well appointed cabin and everything was as promised.

Our family of twelve had lots of room for preparing meals, playing games, sleeping and enjoying that awesome view. We could not have chosen a more perfect cabin for our family reunion.

Oh, and the bears! So fortunate to have seen several around the cabin! Totally icing on the cake for us all.

Gorgeous

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was gorgeous and had an amazing view. The only complaints I have is that there were a lot of dead bugs laying around, but I guess that's typical when you spray for them regularly. And the road leading up to the cabin was crazy windy. It was scary the first time we drove it, and none of us felt comfortable driving it at night. Other than that we had a great time and the cabin was awesome.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. Yes since the nights are cooler now the bugs are trying to get inside. We have been diligently spraying for them. So glad they were dead and not alive! We know how much everyone enjoys the great mountain views, but in order to enjoy those, most of the time we must drive up a mountain to obtain those views. The Gatlinburg City maintains those roads and though there are some curves, they are in very good condition as easily accessible by any type of vehicle. (Except for a large bus) We hope you will visit again soon!

Your mountain getaway to the Great Smoky Mountains starts here.

Gatlinburg is nestled at the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in America. There are three entrances into the Smokies right from downtown. Gatlinburg attracts more than eleven million visitors a year and can grow to a population of 40,000-plus on any givennight. This little town of 3,944 residents is dedicated to welcoming all of its guests with a taste of Appalachian hospitality at its best. Folks come from all over the world for vacations, outdoor adventures, family fun and memory making. Gatlinburg is one of America's great mountain resort destinations, with accommodations of every kind, dozens of local-to-national restaurants, and attractions galore – all nestled in the foothills and surrounded on three sides by the natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg prides itself on its walk-ability amidst mountain heritage and the arts, crafts and shops that reflect that tradition. Walking Downtown and the River Walk

Everyone enjoys walking the Downtown Parkway, which runs from one end of town to the other. It’s filled with a rich variety of things to see and activities to experience, places to eat, super shopping and attractions that boggle the mind. For a quieter stroll, take the River Walk and enjoy the cheerful song of the Little Pigeon River, with gazebos and benches along the way. Apart from the Downtown Parkway and connecting side streets, the East Parkway at Traffic Light #3 is dotted with shops and restaurants for about three miles.

Arts and Crafts for miles

Anchored at the corner of East Parkway and Glades Road at Traffic Light #3A, you'll find the beginning of the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community. Home to over 100 shops featuring craftspeople and artists along an 8-mile loop, it's the largest gathering of independent artisans in North America. You'll discover one-of-a-kind crafts, treasures and artwork, and you can watch the artisans at work. Stop along the way and chat with a painter or potter, or let a broom maker show you how it's done.

The night time is the right time

Once the sun sets, there's plenty of dining and entertainment downtown. From family fare to filet mignon, Gatlinburg's restaurants are always fixin' up something special. After dinner, enjoy a show. Take a trip back in time to the slapstick vaudeville comedy of Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre or check out the Mentalist show with hypnosis and magic. Grab a bench and people-watch. Or cruise up the Space Needle or Gatlinburg Sky Lift and enjoy the twinkling lights below
