Overview

About the property

Perfect spot: from ultimate couple's getaway to bourbon trail weekend for 12

Escape from it all in this beautifully restored (with lots of modern twists) Victorian home in the trees. The house is so inviting, and filled with so much to do, that some guests never leave during their stay ... if you do, however: hike, bike, walk, play in our 'backyard' - Willow Park and Cherokee Park provide miles of walking trails and outdoor activities.

You're also minutes from downtown, the Ohio River, Kentucky Kingdom, Churchill Downs and the world's most famous horse race!

Our guest reviews speak for themselves ... and some of the biggest favs we hear are: heated tiles, Steinway grand, dry sauna, steam sauna, phone-controlled music throughout, Direct TV, Samsung Smart TVs, amazing kitchen, roaring fireplace, tranquil front porch, perfect-entertaining back deck, peaceful escape, hip-magazine-quality-design and true-local-insight/reservation-help and direction.

Guest Access:

It's all yours ... this listing includes full, private access to the home, gorgeous views from every window; expansive back deck with grill, sectional and fire pit; rockers and swing on the front porch; all the high-tech you could ask for, including a Sonos music system, high-tech-thermostat and climate control, Apple-TV, HD Smart TVs; cool art; lots of space, one roaring wood-burning fireplace, two more traditional Victorian versions; and always a welcome basket complete with Kentucky treats. Be sure to check out all the pics and details for each.

Interaction with Guests:

The place is yours and I respect your privacy first and foremost. It's possible that I will be out of town and that there may be no other guests, but not a guarantee. :) Regardless, I'm always a phone call away for tips, inside advice - and you'll also have the phone numbers for our 'power team' for anything you need from our housekeeper and handy-guy house expert.

The Neighborhood:

Ahhhh, where to begin ... this spot really has it all. Including beautiful, mature tree-lined streets and alleys, the city's best park and trail system and a couple blocks' walk to the best restaurants, shops, nightclubs and culture the city has to offer.

Getting around:

Be sure to plan to schedule a Distillery Tour ... you can sample bourbon at restaurants within blocks and plan day-trip visits to some of the most famous distilleries such as Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve and more. The list is too long to mention here, but don't forget to add the Louisville Slugger bat factory, Muhammad Ali Center, Museum Row, Belle of Louisville Steamboat cruise ... just ask us for suggestions or help planning the perfect visit.

Other Things to Note:

I've had an amazing response to the venture into sharing my home - and have met some amazing folks in the process. Even those I don't get to meet personally - but who share their great experiences of my place and 'hood are super-rewarding. Our calendar has been pretty busy, so if you're looking at available dates - let me know how I can help you get confirmed.

Look forward to talking to you soon - and helping you plan an awesome visit to 'the 'ville.'

About Bob

Hi there! I'm a house/all-things-design lover with an occasional bout of electronics/amazon addictive behavior. Love making sure I've played with the lasted home audio, automation, lighting, A/V ... basically anything that can be controlled via my iPhone, iPad or Mac.

I'm a serial-entrepreneur and heavy traveler, so love having others enjoy the place while I'm gone. Also trying to figure out if it makes sense to rent the carriage house in one-year leases or on a more casual basis for short stints.

Hope to get to meet soon. By the way, I have an awesome 'team' of folks here in Louisville who are the really smart ones ... so, regardless of my travels or general disorientation, they always make sure the house is clean and guest-ready, yard is looking great; towels are fluffed, coffee's ready for the morning, and guests are always happy.

Bob purchased this house in 1995

Why Bob chose Louisville

Ahhhh, where to begin ... this spot really has it all. Including beautiful, mature tree-lined streets and alleys, the city's best park and trail system and a couple blocks' walk to the best restaurants, shops, nightclubs and culture the city has to offer.

What makes this house unique

My favorites: top-of the-line appliances and an amazing space for entertaining; an authentic Finnish Dry Sauna; a hot and relaxing steam shower; perfect condition Steinway Grand Piano; gorgeous views from every window; expansive back deck with grill, sectional and fire pit; or a set of rockers and swing on the front porch; all the high-tech you could ask for, including Sonos music system, Nest thermostat and climate control, multiple Apple-TV-enabled HD Smart TV; cool art; lots of space, one roaring wood-burning fireplace, two more traditional Victorian versions; and, most importantly, always a welcome basket complete with Kentucky Bourbon samples!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Bob was an amazing host! He met me at the house and gave me a quick tour, and made sure we had everything we needed for the weekend. He was flexible with our arrival / departure schedules and provided lots of great info on places to go in the neighborhood. The house is fantastic. Lots of space (we had 9 sleep comfortably), great ambiance, a beautiful outdoor deck/grilling area, and all the comforts/amenities you need - big flatscreen, wireless network, speaker system, sauna, steam shower, etc. And the location is perfect. Everything we needed from food and drinks to bars and restaurants was just a short walk or ride away. I'd recommend this house to anyone looking for a fun and comfortable place to stay in one of Louisville's great neighborhoods.

Super cool house and location!

  • 5 of 5

A group of 5 couples stayed here for the Kentucky Derby 2017. Perfect location and beautiful Victorian home with so much cool character. Bob and caretaker, Carolyn, were quick to answer questions and made sure everything was perfect for arrival, including a beautiful basket of Derby goods, a dozen of red roses, coffee and snacks. Thank you Bob and Carolyn for the KY hospitality!

Perfect place for a summer family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had 7 adults and 3 teens stay, and we were all very happy. We found ourselves enjoying the front porch and the large, open kitchen and dining area the most--bring music for the Steinway grand if you can play! The location just can't be beat if you are into checking out the quirky, fun, gentrifying areas of Louisville. It's also an easy drive to downtown (Slugger museum, etc). Tiny minuses were a need for some more basic glassware (plenty of plastics, though), an A/C system that froze out the bottom floor and just barely cooled the 2nd and 3rd (the comforters saved us in the basement!), and a couple really soft beds (but the range of soft/firm ultimately got divided up fine). Other big pluses were the giant laundry area, generously-stocked bathrooms (no worries if you forgot a toiletry) very accommodating and responsive host, a sound system that lets you play your smartphone music in various areas in the house, keyless entry and plenty of street parking.

Beautiful property in a great location although starting to show its age

  • 4 of 5

We had a group of 5 women at this house and it was a lovely base for a weekend in Louisville. The neighborhood is lovely and the location is great. There are wonderful places to walk to and it's easy to drive to a variety of shopping and dining options. The house is full of charm and generally comfortable and accommodating. The front porch is also lovely and we spent a lot of time on the rocking chairs outside (although the neighbor who was chain smoking cigars was a bit of a negative). We would definitely recommend this house, although there are a couple of things to consider.

It should be noted that one of the bedrooms is in the basement and one on the third floor and that the stairs to both of these are somewhat challenging. Also one of the bedrooms on the second floor has a sleeper sofa for the bed. So lots of beds, but some challenges/negatives depending on your party.

The house generally is very interesting and the decoration is fun and charming and the house is well stocked. But the house is starting to show its age and could use some maintenance - cupboard doors don't close, the outlets won't hold a plug, the railing up to the second floor is loose etc. These are minor issues, but given that cost of the house, it would be nice to see these addressed.

Home Comfort with Hotel Service - Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Cannot say enough good things about this home. The location, amenities, cleanliness, and just about everything was perfect. Our group was our wedding party getting together for the first time. The house is very spacious and has excellent decoration. There is a sound system, TVs, Sauna, steam shower, grill, front and back porch, and much more. All the beds and linens are comfortable and cleaned, small toiletries and a gift basket are provided. The location is a 3 block walk to Bardstown road where there is shopping, bars, and restaurants. A short Uber/Taxi ride will get you downtown quickly. Would 100% stay here again and recommend for anybody!
