The first thing people say when entering Villa View is 'What a view!'
Set in the hills above historic Charlotte Amalie, our vista stretches to the sea and islands with a grand view from the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea.
The view closer in is of cruise ships sliding into the harbor, red tail hawks floating on air thermals, humming birds feeding from banana trees.
Villa View is an open and airy house. The main living area has vaulted ceilings and is adjoined by a covered deck with a wide view. The well-equipped kitchen is open to the living and dining area; there is a gas grill on the covered deck. A loft above the living area has a queen sofa-bed, television and full bath.
Downstairs facing the town and sea are two queen bedrooms. They share a large bath with a glass shower, double vanity and adjacent washer-dryer. The bedrooms face the sea; at night the sparkling stars seem so near you could touch them.
A stairway from the house leads to a lap pool and sun deck overlooking the harbor.
Though only five minutes from town, Villa View offers a peaceful place to relax. Its central location makes it easy to drive to beaches, golf, sightseeing, shopping and the ferry to St. John. There are several restaurants and bars in the nearby hills.
You’ll find many beaches within an easy drive. The famous Magens Bay is a mere seven minutes away. Beach towels, snorkel equipment and sand toys are provided.
Villa View is a wonderful place to call home as you enjoy all that St. Thomas has to offer.
The wonderful sea breeze, the stunning view, and comfortable living space make this home the perfect respite.
What a wonderful location! With day round breezes it's a pleasant place to spend the day. If you’d rather be out and about, it's a quick drive to several beaches and restaurants, with easy access to town. Villa View provides a welcome retreat at the end of the day.
About the owners:
Gretta and Justin were extremely helpful throughout the booking process. If I emailed a question they responded within 24 hours every time. Justin met us at the airport and showed us the way to the house. We had a rough time with the car rental company and he was patient and helpful through the process. During our stay we had only a few issues (power going out, phone not working) and they were great at getting back to us right away.
About the condo:
The condo was kept very nice and clean. It was spacious for us four adults. It had both internet and TV which we enjoyed. It was EXTREMELY had to find and drive in/out of. But with that said, ALL the condos on the island are hard to find and drive too! We brought glow sticks to put out at night to find the driveway and it helped a lot. The pool was not heated, but we toughed out the cold a few times. I would like to note the neighbor dog barked non stop at night and early in the AM. We found an old fan in the closet to make noise which helped a little. This obviously isn't the owners fault, but if you are a light sleeper beware.
About the location:
Like mentioned, it was hard to find initially. I recommend a 4w drive car as it's a steep climb from the city. The nearest grocery/gas station is 20 minutes+ away. We enjoyed the view quite a bit, but other then that the location was nothing special. You could not walk on the street nearby unless you want to be hit by a car. I would NOT BRING ANYTHING VALUABLE on the trip with you. I had brought my professional camera and was too intimidated to bring it anywhere. We hid our valuables in the house when we left. All the doors are windows had double locks. We talked to some locals who said theft in the area is really bad.
About St. Thomas:
St. Thomas was definitely more run down then the neighboring islands. We ended up visiting St. Johns almost every day as the beaches were prettier, restaurants were WAY more affordable and overall maintenance was better.
Gretta arranged to have a family member meet us at the airport and right from the start he was an absolute delight! He oriented us to the Island, made a stop with us to pick up groceries then guided us to Villa View and spent time answering all our questions. The view is second to none, absolute perfection! Both bedrooms look out over Charlotte Amalie. When you wake in the morning and look out the window, without getting up mind you, you see way out to sea as well as the other local Islands and of course the harbor where the cruise ships come in. The beds were so comfortable and the sheets so soft waking up in the morning and lying in bed looking out the window was one of my favorite parts of the day. The house is amply supplied with everything you need, including beach towels, snorkel and fins! The kitchen has everything you have at home, including sharp knives and a blender for making frozen drinks with the complementary rum! Thank you! Being that the home is on top of the mountain there was a constant breeze, at least while we were there. We opened the windows, so we always had a gentle breeze in the house. We enjoyed cooler temperatures in the home than we would have below at sea level so we were always comfortable. The surrounding homes are hidden from view, so you have privacy. The home is well maintained and the owner's are very attentive to your needs without being intrusive. Very lovely people indeed! My husband and I were traveling with my brother and his wife. We spent our mornings relaxing on the deck then around Noon we would venture out for the day shop/beach/St. John etc and at night we watched movies! How can it get even better than that? All in all it was the best vacation we've ever had! Thank you Villa View, truly the perfect place to come back to!
This beautiful home had everything from shampoo to very nice snorkel gear. A big thank you to Gretta for the bottle of great rum. The cupboards are stocked with great spices and teas and the fridge had most condiments. The beds were very comfortable. GET THE RENTAL CAR INSURANCE OFFERED BY TCOMPANY YOU ARE RENTING FROM! If anyone is renting a car, save yourself a huge headache. My husband and I have driven alot of foreign places and St. Thomas takes the cake for reckless drivers and crazy driving conditions. Recomend two great places. The first on coqui beach that has the best snorkeling at the far end is a little restaurant that makes the best spicy Cajun chicken I have ever eaten. The next place is down by the cruise ship docks and has a shark hanging out front. Great drinks great food and a fun atmosphere. The waiter JB is single girls, make shure to say hi if you would like a fun tour guide to show you around the island.😆
This rental experience was wonderful from start to finish!
The owners were really responsive from the start, were really helpful getting our trip planned! They organized for someone to meet us to the airport, guide us to the villa and be our point of contact during our stay - and even gave us a bottle of Rum as a welcoming present!
The villa itself is simply wonderful! The views from the balconies and the pool deck are breathtaking! But my favorite part of the house were the beds... sooo comfy!!! The location of the house was great, because it was close to everything, yet in a residential part of the island, so no huge hotels/lots of tourists going by.. Of course the house is at the top of a steep hill - but that's very normal of St Thomas, everything is either at the top or a the bottom of a steep hill.. We rented a normal car (not a Jeep!) and it was absolutely fine wherever we went! Driving on the left up and down these steep hills is a bit surprising at first, but by the second day, you get used to it! The house is surrounded by many beautiful trees, so you don't see any neighbors, it's really calm - perfect for relaxing after a long day at the beach!
The villa has everything - towels, beach towels, sunscreen, snorkeling equipment, books, TV/DVD, maps and magazines about the Virgin Islands (plenty of good tips on what to see/do during your stay!), and a all could possibly need in a kitchen!!! We enjoyed cooking at the villa (much cheaper than going out to dinner all the time) and making home-made cocktails!
I couldn't recommend this villa enough - it really made our holiday perfect! When booking online you're always sort of worried the place you booked won't turn out as nice as you've imagines, but here, i'm happy to say that it exceeded our expectations in every way!
Three of us stayed here for 10 days and had an absolutely amazing time in this property; we especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony enjoying the view. The pictures don't fully capture how spacious the house is, and what the views from the house and pool are like - wow! Every amenity we needed was available in the house, and it was great to have a broad selection of books and games to enjoy (when we weren't in the wonderful pool!), access to snorkel equipment, beach towels, etc. We used both bedrooms and the loft (fold out couch) and it worked out perfectly, we didn't feel cramped or that we didn't have enough space. The property is very well located - close to shopping, beaches, the golf course, ferries to other islands and to connect with tour companies for daily excursions. It was so wonderful to spend the day shopping or at the beach, and return to the house to enjoy the cooler breezes, and cook dinner or use the great bbq. The road to the property is an adventure in itself! - be prepared for winding steep roads and driving on the left hand side....but after a few days you really don't notice the steepness of the roads because you are too busy looking at the incredible views. We enjoyed going to "mountain top" (shopping, great view of Magen's Bay) and to "Sibs" (local bar/restaurant) - both located a few minutes away from the property, as well as checking out the great selection of restaurants on the island (we really like "Thirteen" and "Grand Cru"....and be sure to check out "The Pie Whole"!). There were no issues booking the property and the home owners were very response, easy to deal with and helpful answering our questions. I would definitely highly recommend this property and hope to return for another stay!
