Magical Family Memories
My family just had an amazing visit to Down by the Bay in Fishing Creek! It's hard to put into words how special it was. After the past few months that we've all been through in quarantine, this was the PERFECT place to enjoy the most stunning nature, reset, relax and also still safely socially distance. The town of Fishing Creek is TINY - 1 restaurant located conveniently right next door to the house, Old Salty's, which was delicious and we took back and ate out on the deck and 1 general store/gas station that has some basics and ice cream. The BEST part of the home is it has its own private beach, which was truly amazing and made it the perfect place for social distancing. Every day, we just walked out from the house across the beautiful expansive lawn, to the beach every day to play on the sand, collect tons of sea glass, swim (water is so warm and shallow, perfect for kids), kayak and my husband fished. They have adult bikes to use to ride around the little town or to the general store. We found baby terrapin turtles, saw bald eagles, osprey, stingrays, horseshoe crabs and kayaked out to the deserted nature preserve island right across from the home, where hundreds of pelicans flew over head. Truly magical! We even got a couple of cool fly overs from the navy jets based across the bay. It’s a historic crabbing village with apparently 90% of Maryland crabs coming from this little town. We were able to buy fresh crab right from the crab house that had just been picked. The sunsets from the back deck are stunning and for those up early, you can see the sunrise from the kitchen window. We loved being able to bring our dog, too. On the way in or out of town, be sure to drive through Blackwater Nature Preserve and stop at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Park. Cambridge is 30 min away and is a very cute larger town with restaurants and shops. If you are looking for a special place to relax and make lifetime family memories, do NOT pass up staying at Down by the Bay!
Perfect for family fun!
This house we perfect for two families vacationing together. There was plenty of room for adults and kids to congregate and hang out. The kitchen is completely stocked for cooking, the grills were great, the yard was gorgeous. Watching the fireworks over the water on the 4th was the perfect ending to our lovely week. We could not have asked for a better stay!
Thank you for the kind review. We are always happy when our guests enjoy themselves and relax! That’s what it’s all about on Hoopers Island!
Fall Stay on the Chesapeake
Really nice house with access to the beach and 270 deg of oceans views. The sunsets were as advertised and not to be missed. We liked the restaurant (Old Salty's) that is s stone's throw away for traditional MD seafood. We only had six people but this could easily hod more comfortably. Great space to stay in and play games on winter nights.
Great Ironman location
We all enjoyed our stay very much!!!!! The view was spectacular!!! We got fresh crab meat from Phillips Seafood just down the road, and the kitchen was well stocked for cookies all of our meals. It was a great location for the Ironman- great place to bike and run and a quiet get away!!!
The house is located in Fishing creek MD, AKA Hoopers Island.
Activities to further explore while visiting Hoopers Islands include: Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Harriet Tubman Visitors Center, Art galleries and fine dining in historic Cambridge.
