Dragon Cabin in the Coffee Orchard

Bedrooms 1
Half Baths1
Space 384 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

A slice of rural Hawaii less than a mile from Hawi and Kapa`au Towns

HI Tax ID No. W59990272-01

Dragon Cabin is a new remodel and upgrade of a coffee worker's dwelling. Lots of windows and vaulted ceilings open to Kohala's famous trade winds give this 12V, off-grid, tropical hideaway a light and airy openness. Just under 400sq', there is a very roomie, Cal-King bed that sleeps two very comfortably.

There is a fully functional kitchen and propane refrigerator for home cooking.

There is an outdoor, hot-water shower attached and a toilet about 15' away.

The setting is usually incredibly tranquil with only the sounds of the many birds singing and the wind through the ironwoods. Sometimes when the ocean is rough you can hear waves crashing rocks not far away.

Sometimes during the day there are the sounds of a working coffee farm and on some nights it is necessary to run a generator located in a barn some distance from Dragon Cabin for about an hour.

Sometimes there's music.

A Hawaiian rustic experience.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in The Dragon House. We were expecting a rustic environment and weren't disappointed. The house itself was inviting and charming. The best bed we slept in on the whole island! Be prepared to use the facilities outside of the house. We would stay there again but bring some necessities for eating in.

Very spacious and clean cabbin in a quiet area

  • 5 of 5

Very easy and simple arriving with every information needed provided. Very functional kitchen, very clean with much less insects and humidity than in other cabbins. The cabbin had much more space than it looks on the picture, it is very spacious. Very comfortable king bed. Quiet area without traffic, but as written in the details we can hear the generator once to twice a day. Still close to the tourism activities by car. We would definitly recommend it to anyone, we were there with a 5 months old baby and it was easy!

bad luck?

  • 1 of 5

We found ourselves at a locked gate, so we were either at the wrong place or someone goofed. After unsuccessfully attempting to contact the owner thru email and by phone we eventually had to give up and get a hotel room. The hotel room, by the way, was quite nice and I would stay there again. It's been a week and we still haven't heard back from the owner, which also means we weren't issued a refund. We contacted VRBO and they said it had to be worked out with the owner. I hope this was an isolated case of bad luck, but the lack of any response is rude.

Comfortable bed and friendly host

  • 5 of 5

This rental is off the grid and rustic as described and was the perfect place to spend our first night on the Big Island. Owner, Lance was very friendly and told us not to miss visiting the Pololu Valley, which was awesome. The bed was quite comfortable and the quiet surroundings provided the perfect environment for a great night's sleep.

Perfect place for real respite

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was charming. Was able to make hearty breakfast, enjoy quiet nights, and feel like I was a part of the real Hawaii. Great location in Hawi too. And Lance's dogs are terrific:)
