Absolutely Perfect!

I cannot say enough about this property. From the wonderful garden, fruit trees, friendly pet residents in the yard to the excellent quarters to stay in, to our wonderful hosts, and the close to Sunset Beach and other great spots. Everything is better than described. Quiet neighborhood & friendly neighbors. We were worried about being too warm while sleeping but the breezes that come through at night are perfectly cool for an excellent nights sleep and the bed was super comfy as well. Kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook for yourself. Bathroom was HUGE and perfect. Plenty of fresh bath towels and beach towels. We will absolutely be staying here each and every time we visit the North Shore in the future. Most relaxing vacation we have ever had. Stayed at Turtle Bay in the past which is great, but enjoyed this so much better and at a fraction of the cost. Don't pass this one up if considering a stay on the North Shore. Thank you so much Marie and Alec for everything.

Read all the great prior reviews. They were accurate about this location. I will stay here again.

Marie had tea made and chilled in the fridge along with fresh fruit from her property. She made us guacamole dip and delicious mango salsa dip. Not sure if she always makes the dips because she mentioned she had also made some for a wedding. Marie and her husband are very nice and easily accessible. They had some great suggestions of locations to visit.

If you want to see more of the island stay here and rent a car and drive around the island. The island is small enough to get to anywhere you want to visit from the location easily. We spent most of our time on this side of the island and away from Honolulu and had a fabulous time. When we go back we will do the same again.

I would not be honest if I didn't mention the air conditioning. There is none. They do have several fans. This was not an issue for us. There was a breeze and with the fans we were still comfortable. It was a little stuffy when we first got in in the evenings but quickly cooled off when we turned on the fans. For the low price to stay here for a safe, clean, comfortable place the airconditioning should not discourage you.

I have recommended this place already to friends.

The property was wonderful. The home was clean, and well taken care of. The backyard space was wonderful to sit, relax, and enjoy the sunshine. The fresh fruit Marie provided for us was thoughtful (and delicious). We could not have asked for a better place to stay or better hosts. Everyone who visits the North Shore, should definitely stay with Marie and Alec!

It was amazing! Loved every minute of my stay

  • 5 of 5

There are not enough words to describe how amazing my visit was. The suite was beautiful and had everything we could ask for. There was fresh fruit, mango salsa and chips, and amazing fruit tea waiting for me in the fridge. Marie and her husband were amazing. They both made us feel so welcome and gave great advice on thing to do and see while we were there. Marie made us some amazing dessert and was just great. If I am lucky enough to get go back I would love to stay with them again. I highly recommend this studio! The pictures do not do this place justice! Thank you Marie for everything! I loved it there!

Beautiful North Shore studio

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I came to the North Shore to celebrate our 40th birthdays. This was the first time we have chosen a vacation rental rather than a hotel. We loved almost everything about this choice: it is in a quiet neighborhood, it is nicely equipped - almost like staying at home, it has beautiful grounds and was quite nice. We took advantage of the beach chairs, umbrella, towels and boogie boards a few different times - Waimea Beach was our favorite, just a couple minutes away -, we tried lychee off the tree in the yard and we enjoyed the North Shore. We used the refrigerator and microwave but much else beyond bowls and plates. We certainly used the aloe vera and a couple of bandaids for blisters.

We are probably a little different than most of the amazing reviews that I read before booking. Marie was out of town, so we had no interaction with her. We talked to Alec upon arrival and he showed us the lychee tree, but we only talked to him briefly after that. We were also here during an extremely hot end of May/beginning of June. The fans were not enough to cool things down at night, so we did not spend much time in the room - besides sleeping.

We would certainly stay here again, but probably not during the summer.

Quiet, clean, restful. Great country location, high up on the North Shore.

  • 5 of 5

This place was a nice easy place to stay. It was clean, well, appointed, and big enough for two grown men to enjoy. Basically, it's a large studio apartment, with one queen sized bed, and a surprisingly comfortable bed that folds out from a large ottoman. the kitchen is small but has everything you need to cook adequate meals. There is an induction hotplate burner, a toaster oven, a microwave, and a bunch of other little appliances. If you expect to cook gourmet four course meals here, forget about it, but there is definitely enough to make a full meal. Not a lot of prep space, and mostly a one-person kitchen, but adequate. The bathroom is big, with a large jetted tub (which we didn't test for functionality), two-sink vanity, and a rain showerhead. Lots of towels, shampoo, and body wash, etc.. Everything was very clean and in good repair.

Alec, the owner, was on the premises, and was quite personable and attentive, but not overly so. Just right as a host, I'd say. He brought us fresh papaya and pineapple from the property, which is agricultural. The property itself is up the North Shore almost to Turtle Bay, so is away from the tourist areas, which is what I wanted, but if you are looking for a very dynamic place, this isn't it. It's very laid back and restful. Ducks and chickens wander through the yard. A lychee tree is right out the back door. The neighborhood is quiet, just people living their lives. There is a beach access within walking distance that led to a charming uncrowded beach that people used for stand-up paddle boarding and swimming. There is also a nice surf break there.

I would recommend this rental for two people, maybe with a child, who are looking to get away from the usual Hawaii experience, and who want to be embedded in a normal working-class neighborhood, instead of in a bunch of rental condos or a hotel. Great for anyone who wants access to the famous surf breaks of the North Shore, as well as snorkeling and diving at Shark's Cove and Three Tables. Haliewa is a short drive away for all the kinds of services one may need such as equipment rentals, restaurants, shops, even a post office. Going north you will find roadside stands that sell locally grown produce and farmed shrimp. Laie is up around the point on the windward side. Less tourism there. Just a very functional small town with a lot of services. Some very nice beaches on the windward side.

All in all, a very enjoyable, clean, well-appointed apartment.
